Please suggest cards that would be helpful

I'm lpoking for replacements for a) Naru Meha, Master Wizard, b) The Mirari Conjecture, and c) Academy Journeymage. If you have other replacements I will definitely consider them, but the three mentioned above are the main weak links in this deck. Try to suggest 3-mana or less cards, but 4 mana is fine if the card works very well in the deck.

Spellweaver Eternal seems like a good addition.

I also don't think Naban works with Prowess. His ability requires a wizard entering the battlefield to trigger a permanent. Prowess only work with noncreature spells.

You're right about Naban, Dean of Iteration - I wrote that at without looking at the card and forgot exactly what his ability was...

Anyway, Spellweaver Eternal is a good addition - thank you very much for the suggestion.

One card that seems to be missing from your deck that I see in most others is Baral, Chief of Compliance who can and should be slotted in over Naban, Dean of Iteration. Also in Adeliz, the Cinder Wind based aggro decks, it's usually best to not have a curve that goes much higher than 3 mana so that you're able to consistently aggro out. For that reason, I would run up to a playset of Shock as well as a playset of Lightning Strike for extra reach, rather than cards like Naru Meha, Mirari Conjecture, or Precognition Field.

@SpiralWolfos - Thank you for the very good suggestions. I considered Baral, Chief of Compliance before, but I thought he wasn't worth it because I wasn't using anything that his first ability would work with. However, Lightning Strike does seem like a good play, and I will welcome it into this deck.

@skyylol I looked over your deck, and although it's slightly different, Earthshaker Khenra will be a good addition to this deck.

Thank you both!

I'm thinking about adding Mox Amber because of the low cost legendaries in this deck... opinions?

April 23, 2018 9:01 p.m.

acidtumbleweed says... #9

Mox would be great though I think you'd wanna increase counts for Baral & Khari Zev for some turn 2 love. This way on turn 3, you can have a floating mana when you cast Adeliz - with baral taking your costs down, that one mana should help to pay for anything in your hand.

Plahbie says... #10

@acidtumbleweed I'm probably not going to be increasing counts for Baral, Chief of Compliance, mainly because of the fact that the only instant/sorcery spell in the deck that has a 1 in the mana cost is Lightning Strike. (Wizard's Lightning and Wizard's Retort don't count because if I have a wizard they go down to only colored mana). Considering your suggestion, Baral is very helpful when I'm finishing the game with burn, but besides that a more reliable two-drop is Spellweaver Eternal. I've been considering either 2x Mox Amber over Earthshaker Khenra, or 2 more Spellweaver Eternal instead of Earthshaker Khenra. I've been trying to refine the deck so that it includes fewer non-wizards in the creature list, and I believe that Kari Zev, Skyship Raider is the only one that should remain in the deck despite not being a wizard.

April 23, 2018 11:57 p.m.

Ah good point about Baral, I see what you mean. Also, you like Kari - I run her as well as Warkite Marauder, I love them both and Warkite lets me shock anything away. One thing I'm missing is drawing abilities, gonna try a set of Bomat Couriers to see if they can help keep me going. Have you run into any issues stalling? Once I run out of cards I usually lose >.<

Plahbie says... #12

In a game where I can't activate my mana base quickly enough, I have trouble winning. However, in a game where I have too many lands in my hand/draws, I lose as well. This deck can't keep up late game, so it has to try to win the early game. I run Opt because of the fact that I might stall, but I usually end up using it to empower Soul-Scar Mage or Spellweaver Eternal. Against a deck where I have an issue with the early game kill, I usually put Hazoret the Fervent in over Kari Zev, Skyship Raider. In a few games I do stall because of using all of the cards in hand, but mostly I keep Wizard's Retort around long enough to prevent that from happening.

I'd recommend checking out BlackBlade Reforged and Run Amokenter link description here.

Pretty cool deck. I'd worry a bit about fiery cannonade.

This is a deck I'm thinking about.https://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/wizards-run-amok/Idea is a bit different.

Still doesn't beat my Turn three win deck from SOI standard

April 25, 2018 7:34 p.m.

Plahbie says... #15

@LunaMirage - Run Amok is powerful, but doesn't really have a place in this deck; although I am going creature aggro, it would act just like a burn spell against the opponent or a creature, and I don't really need more of those. Blackblade Reforged is also powerful, but not very good in this deck. Finally, I deal with cards like Fiery Cannonade with things like Spell Pierce and Wizard's Retort.

@EchoScorch - Okay. Please try to be more helpful next time.

You've got 8 legendary creatures. Also BladeBlade Reforged and Run Amok would help against hexproof/can't counter spells/creatures. Trample is a very nice feature.

I'm wondering how you are planning to cope against big bad face smack dinosaurs.

Lost_0ne says... #17

Why no Siren Stormtamer? She's a flying 1/1 for 1 blue and can counter those single destructions for 1 blue also.

April 26, 2018 11:27 p.m.

Plahbie says... #18

@LunaMirage: Blackblade Reforged is far too slow for this deck. I aim to have won or be close to winning by turn 4; I can't equip Blackblade until turn 3 at the least and by then it will have taken over the two most important turns - 2 and 3, where I would normally develop my board state for a win on turn 4 or 5. Using Run Amok for removal is difficult, because the opponent has to block the creature with the creature that you are targeting. Additionally, with Soul-Scar Mage, I am unable to do anything against Hazoret the Fervent (or anything else that has indestructible) when the opponent chooses to block, whereas with burn I can kill or severely weaken Hazoret easily. Finally, with big dinosaurs, I beat them before they can be played or with Adeliz, the Cinder Wind because it has flying.

@lost_one: I used to use Siren Stormtamer but often found that it didn't serve my purposes as well as other wizards, because although it had flying, it couldn't do as much as a similar creature with Prowess. However, because of its flying ability, it might yet find a place in the deck again.

buckeyetron says... #19

you can cast Run Amok after the opponent declares blockers, and then target a blocked creature. also, trying to beat dinos "before they can be played" is not a viable strategy. dinos can drop a 5 mana creature on turn 3 with haste.

turn 1: Kinjalli's Caller

turn 2: Otepec Huntmaster

turn 3: pay 3 mana for a Charging Tuskodon and tap Otepec Huntmaster to give it haste.

@buckeyetron: Fine, I concede - dinosaurs are powerful... :(. Therefore, I shall put Run Amok in my sideboard over Puncturing Blow. Thanks to both buckeyetron and LunaMirage for the suggestion.

buckeyetron says... #21

i dont think Run Amok will help against dinos, but i do think its better than Puncturing Blow lol. you may consider Naban, Dean of Iteration with etb effects like Merfolk Trickster, Watertrap Weaver, and Ghitu Journeymage so that you can tap down blockers and burn the opponent in combination with your Lightning Strike and Wizard's Lightning. that should let you still deal heavy damage to dinos, while also keeping them at bay. you can wait until a dino attacks, then flash in Merfolk Trickster to block and kill it. if you control Naban, Dean of Iteration, and your opponent attacks with 2 dinos, you can do the same thing and block and kill both of them.

Thanks. Really depends though. could be just as good. Also, the kicker draw aspect is nice. Have to play around with them.

I've been looking into elf/Elf aggro. It currently seems pretty strong. Dominaria is really looking like a lot of fun. Glad I am getting back into magic after a long break.

I build a pretty similar deck, but with some differences. I try to use Riddleform instead of Baral, Kari Zev and Mox Amber. I mean it's a good looking turn 2, but for what? You want to hold your burn spells until turn 3 for the Adeliz combo and only for an Opt I would not do this move. With Riddleform in turn 2, you have a strong 3/3 flying in following turns. You could play Mox Amber for a strong attack in turn 3 with Riddleform and Adeliz. If you don't, I recommend to play only 22 Lands anyway and replace them with Chandra, Torch of Defiance
