Story Circle and Righteous Aura don't protect you from Exsanguinate BTW. Both of those cards are fun, fair choices.

I would definitely goto Leyline of Sanctity if you are trying to project from damage spells, it also prevents many planeswalker shenanigans and discard effects.

@Ender666666 I have been wondering the same, but I opted to go all out on the enchantments. I think I'll wait untill the deck is assembled and see how the fixation works.

@zyphermage you are right - Exsanguinate was a bad example. I figured Righteous Aura was more versatile than Leyline of Sanctity since it could help me versus both targetted and 'each opponent' spells. Righteous Aura's drawback is that it can't help me versus unpreventable damage (e.g., Banefire) which Leyline of Sanctity can fix by not making me a target at all.

I'll consider going Leyline of Sanctity instead.

On a side note - is there anything that would protect me from Exsanguinate?

Cheers

Hmm, I don't feel like dropping Righteous Aura, and I want Leyline of Sanctity in the deck.

I'll drop Elspeth, Knight-Errant since she is pretty hard to protect and I only profit from her -8.

Cheers

I just found about this glorious card- Energy Flux defiantly worth a spot in your list, I would suggest you switch it with Telepathy since it doesn't do really anything maybe if you had counter spells it would worth a spot..

zyphermage says... #5

Actually there really is no way to protect from each opponent spells, minus a counterspell. None that I am away of for sure, maybe some prevention effect to a certain amount.

Well Platinum Emperion would technically stop Exsanguinate, but makes no sense in an Oloro deck.

MrHighscore, if I can threadjack the conversation for a moment, would everyone please help me out and check out #SorryNotSorry? I am considering making some changes and posted an alternative list. I'd appreciate it if you all could give me your thoughts on the changes I'm considering?

MrHighscore says... #8

@daniel.goldberg.98 Thank you - I like Energy Flux and I know I have some lying around somewhere. Telepathy is awesome, so that stays in! Not only does it remove surprises, it usually causes arguments around the table, best observed from the cutton couch.

I can do without Mystical Tutor now that I dropped Exsanguinate and Debt to the Deathless, so that will be the replaced card.

@Ender666666 I do know #SorryNotSorry and I like it. I've shared my thoughts in the thread.

Cheers

Would it be worth it to work in Aura Thief + Enchanted Evening ?

Ofcourse there is the issue with Humility shutting Aura Thief down, but on the other hand ... controlling all permanents sound fun. Really fun.

Enchanted Evening will buff Sphere of Safety significantly.

The problem with this combo is how you trigger the death- most of your removal is exiling the creatures or conditional removal that will take a turn to trigger and by then it could be too late ill rather have Academy Rector as creature that trigger of dying

Overburden and Forbidden Orchard do not work together, contrary to the description given for the deck.

Overburden reads, "Whenever a player puts a nontoken creature onto the battlefield, that player returns a land he or she controls to its owner's hand."

Orchard produces tokens, therefore no one has to put a land back into their hand. The cards are strong, standalone, but this is a nonbo so it would probably be best to update the description.

Onto your deck: I find Subversion is extremely slow. You need 2-3 cards of support in order for it to really even make an impact and, even then, its impact is extremely minimal. You could probably just run Mindcrank in its place so that way an active Bloodchief Ascension becomes an instant-win on any life loss or card entering an opponent's graveyard. It also doesn't interrupt the, "I don't have to attack" theme like Thopter Foundry and Sword of the Meek would, so I won't bother suggesting the latter, but I'll push for Mindcrank over Subversion all day, since they're both practically worthless without another supporting card, but the former is much cheaper and actually allows you to win instead of durdling around for 10+ turns.

@PookandPie Thank you for the feedback!

I have removed the erroneous Forbidden Orchard + Overburden combo from the deck description.

Subversion is extremely slow, I have just not been able to find a better enchantment based win-con in the colors. Bloodchief Ascension + Mindcrank is a nice combo. The weaknes in this deck, is that it is hard to defend, as it won't be protected by Auramancer. I do like the lower casting cost, and the opportunity to end the game in less than 20 rounds :)

I'll give it some thought, for now I'm parking it on the maybeboard.

Cheers.

Whoops, Auramancer should have read Greater Auramancy.

I'm surprised you're not running a Leechridden Swamp. Odds are pretty good that you'll have the black permanents necessary to activate it, and it's a potentially valuable mana sink. You may also want to consider Debt to the Deathless.

MrHighscore says... #16

@ccarmell you are right. I'm a bit low on lands tagged as swamp, but I've dropped one for Leechridden Swamp.

The reason I am not running Debt to the Deathless (or Exsanguinate) is that I don't have any ramp, and I will try and stall the game at 5-6 mana with Land Equilibrium.

Some interesting combos has been suggested on reddit:

Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite + Godhead of Awe + Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth + Kormus Bell: One sided nasty board wipe. Should be an instant-win. I don't think I will be running it because it is creature heavy.

Cloudstone Curio + Leyline of the Void + Stasis : Flash in enchantments just before your turn to bounce Stasis - you get to untap, but they don't. Works even better with Kismet and Blind Obedience. This lockdown looks very promising.

Cleansing Meditation + Enchanted Evening : Destroy everything that is not yours. Looks like a promising win condition.

I'll start thinking how/if I can work them into the deck.

Cheers.

energy field does not work with leyline of the void

also you could run alahammarret's archive and it still run with stony silence

@ace6791 shoot! you are right. Thank you for pointing it out. I added Leyline of the Void instead of Rest in Peace to be able to run Replenish, and I missed that in the cleanup.

Energy Field is still useful, but not that good. Could be a candidate for replacement if I can find enough cards to work in some of the alternate win conditions.

Cheers

trust me just run rest in peace, it lowers the mana curve a little and it runs really well. just make sure you run greater auramancy with copy enchantment and your set. also have you considered running solitary confinement with phyrexian arena/necropotence.

Nice deck! I too play Oloro. He was the first commander that I built my own deck around. I do have a question for you. Have you looked into Starfield of Nyx? You probably don't want it to stay on the board as board wipes become relevant, but playing it with 30 enchantments after your own board wipe could be an alternate win condition. Also if you do decide on Academy Rector it combos very nicely with Omniscience. Be able to cast anything and everything for free. All hail to lazy generals!

By the way I just realized what your name was and you commented on my oloro build. Thanks for the comment! Didn't realize you played oloro too!

Pheardemons says... #24

Sorry to keep commenting, but I read your description and you like people to suggest cuts. Subversion and Palace Siege seem a little redundant, especially with all of the other "lose life" cards you have. Soul Snare I guess is there for the early game, but has it had good reactions with your deck? It seems a little unnecessary with the fact that your enchantments become a lock down for the most part. Land Tax is another one that seems more early game. Has it benefited you enough to keep it no matter what? Late game it seems almost useless being that you don't play many basics. (If any of these are wrong based on your experience with the deck just let me know). I know you're trying to avoid creatures, but one that would probably benefit you is Sun Titan. It would bring back 30 of your enchantments if they are destroyed and 67 cards in total of your deck (including lands).

NinjaBunny01 says... #25

If you want to have some real fun, you should run Opalescence and Enchanted Evening. Then you could run enchantment creatures like Doomwake Giant to ruin other's day.

Also I vote to rename the deck "The Couch Enchanter- Oloro"
