Aluren for EDH!

I'm currently testing hatebears and stax pieces. Some have been wonderful (Mindcensor!) others, not so much (Kataki). We'll see where it goes!

Winning The Game

There are 3 ways to kill your opponents:

1. Recurring Parasitic Strix (Highly recommended)
2. Shooting everyone with Aetherflux Reservoir or Walking Ballista (Recommended)
3. Smashing them and grinding them out with Scavenging Ooze or Walking Ballista (not recommended).

There are several ways to set up these win conditions which can be considered win conditions themselves:

• Aluren + Recruiter of the Guard . Recruiter of the Guard gets Man-o'-War which bounces recruiter to get Cavern Harpy which bounces Man-o'-War to bounce recruiter to get Cavern Harpy + Parasitic Strix combo.
• Cloudstone Curio + Paradox Engine + a few rocks and/or dorks. I call this "Build Your Own Aluren!". This is often my backup when someone inevitably exiles Aluren. It can create infinite mana and infinite storm for all of our win conditions.
• Paradox Engine + Thrasios, Triton Hero + a few rocks and dorks. This is effectively infinite mana and infinite card draw. It's not actually, but if you have a few mana rocks - Signets are amazing - you're going to be able to cast anything and net mana to dump into thrasios. Because of the high number of spells cast this route, Aetherflux Reservoir is a good thing to go for!
• Aluren + Cloudstone Curio . Recur any creature (a commander!) and Parasitic Strix! Or recur any 2 creatures to build up storm for Aetherflux Reservoir.

Some combos can enable our win conditions faster:

• Ad Nauseam. The average CMC of this deck is SO DAMN LOW, but the lack of rituals makes it harder to main phase Ad Nauseam than in most Storm builds. An End of Turn cast can usually work.
• Lion's Eye Diamond + Yawgmoth's Will . Crack LED in response to Will, will resolves, recast LED, you have at least 6 mana of up to 2 colors and the ability to play everything in your graveyard.
• Aluren + Yawgmoth's Will . Yes, it works! A fun trick I found recently was to have Yawgmoth's Will in hand and cast Intuition for Lion's Eye Diamond, Aluren, and Recruiter of the Guard. My opponent gave me LED which I played, then cast Will, cracking LED for 3 green, and recasting LED after Will resolves to crack for 3 blue or black. Then I cast Aluren from the yard, and Recruiter for the win!

Meta

I play against Teferi Chain Veil, Rashmi Control, Tazri Hulk, Shimmer Zur, Ghave Enchantress/Stax (by Dies_to_Doom_Blade), Thrasios and Vial Smasher Reanimator/Worldgorger combo (also Dies_to_Doom_Blade), Breya Paradox/Scepter, Breya Reanimator/Stax, Daretti Stax, Doomsday Zur, Blood Pod, Tasigur Control (By Lab Maniacs Cameron), and a bunch of less powerful, more casual decks.

What We Lose To:

Currently the things that shut me down hardest are: Elesh Norn, Grand Cenobite, Trinisphere, Aven Mindcensor, Torpor Orb, and Eidolon of Rhetoric. Dies_to_Doom_Blade has also prevented gaining advantage with creatures already on the field by using The Tabernacle at Pendrell Vale.

In order to combat the things we lose to, we have a good variety of interaction. There are some less obvious pieces:

• Man-o'-War can bounce a Mindcensor.
• Noxious Revival can stop a reanimation effect.
• Scavenging Ooze just destroys graveyards and makes our Ad Naus better.
• Crop Rotation to get Strip Mine. It also functions as a ritual on a combo turn if used to get Gaea's Cradle.
