Dryad Militant should be kept in side board in case your oppentent is playing Spellheart Chimera

What are your thoughts on Blessing especially as it combos with Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx and Heliod, God of the Sun ? I'm running a similar deck, Heliod's Blessing: White Devotion Deck, and when I get Blessing and Heliod or Blessing and Nykthos out it will end a game a turn or two early (which can be the difference between life and death).

Love it! +1

I think Blessing has its place, but it belongs in a deck where a creature like Fabled Hero is doing big hits on his own. This deck doesn't bother with individual creature enhancements, because it relies on the multiple attackers to rack up the damage. I do like how it boosts white devotion though!

And thanks, EKGwins!

Been running this deck for the past 2 FNMs that I've been able to attend, minus 3 mutavaults cause I can't afford them. Went 2-3 the first one, (misplays versus sweepers, and didn't actually have my sideboard together, so I kept losing to elspeth), and went 4-2 last week, both loses being to monoblack. Won game one both times, and then lost after boarding. Any tips vs monoblack devotion? Whip of erebos and gray merchant keep stealing games from under me.

Also, how has heliod been for you in testing? He keeps being very underwhelming when I get him. This deck just dosen't have the mana to make him terribly effective as atoken maker, and he is a creature suprising few of the times I get him out. When he is a creature, it is just win-more.

How do you manage against Lifegain decks? I see that being a big weakness for this deck. Especially against Whip of Erebos .

Awesome deck just love it, due to card shortage i've had to make a few changes to the deck i use for now though:

2x Mutavault's are out and replaced with 2x Nykthos, Shrine to Nyx, 2x Boros Reckoner's are replaced with 2x Fiendslayer, 2x Precinct Captain are replaced with 2x Hundred-Handed One

It still plays amazingly well, but should i stop being tight and just buy the singles I'm missing?

I've always loved White Wheenies, they bring me back to the old days when I used White Knight , Silver Knight and Armageddon <3 This seems quite a great Standard specimen of the archetype! The only card I have doubts about is the Cavalry Pegasus , but perhaps it is indeed useful due to the amount of humans present.+1!Do check my own competitive deck if you can! :)

I haven't had too much trouble with the Whip, maybe I have been lucky? This deck tends to try and kill fast, so getting some lifegain going on turn 4 or later could be too late. I'll keep my eyes open for it and do some playtesting to see if the weakness is there, I assume we're talking Black Devotion.

Madfool4, I think the Fiendslayers are an amazing card... I would run them if I felt I had room, I used to have them in the sideboard. They are very nice against removal, aren't they? I think I would have no problem replacing the Reckoners with Fiendslayers, actually.

Nykthos doesn't blow my skirt up for this deck, just because I rarely need a lot of mana - I discussed it above, addressing how Heliod's Cleric tokens could be mass-produced, but how I have hardly ever needed to make even one token to win. Hundred-Handed One is cool, but he's a more midrangey card - I have only gone above 3 CMC to include a couple of Heliods. I believe the strength here lies in the multitude of creatures, rather than single, more powerful creatures.

Magnvs, I would so love an Armageddon in here! :) Believe in the Pegasus - they used to be sideboard, until; I found myself siding them in all the time, and winning with them. In fact, just this past Friday, my final match against a tough opponent went 2-0, and he walked away muttering to his buddies "I can't believe a friggin' Pegasus beat me!"

This deck runs on one thing: getting the hits in on your opponent. Giving all my creatures evasion is one of the quickest ways to a win... the Pegasi are a little like Brave the Elements in that respect. You get to ignore jerks like Blood Baron of Vizkopa and just continue the slam!

How does it fair against removal for you? Every time I played it with my BWR Control Removal deck it didn't fare very well. Brave the Elements only lasted so long. How do you answer Doom Blade and Mizzium Mortars . I know Frontline Medic provides Indestructible but that only lasts half a turn on your turn. Anger of the Gods , Mizzium Mortars , are sorcery speed so it kinda gets around him. I guess Rootborn Defenses but decks like mine based around removal is going to outgun you in removal to indestructable. Maybe run Gods Willing sideboard against decks with a lot or removal like mine or Esper Control.

Long_Con says... #17

Yeah, I have had trouble against decks running lots of removal, like the Esper Control deck I lost to last Friday... although I beat out the WRB deck with lots of removal by just continually pumping out the creatures, and a dash of Brave the Elements . He cast five removal spells in a row, and I just kept replacing the removed creature with another until he ran out.

Probably some luck that the removal was all single-target, and he never hit his two Anger of the Gods .

KYLL_YO says... #18

I think you could take out two Mutavault can put in two Gods Willing for more pro-removal. I think it will help you out in the early game where you need it. You can put two of something else in the deck also, but I'm guessing a 2-3 land hand is optimal to keep but I would rather play a spell like Precinct Captain and Boros Reckoner at least a turn sooner if you have Mutavault . In the first few turns I would imagine you want to play your creatures as fast as possible. With Mutavault in play you are not only short one land but another since he only taps for colorless and you have to tap your other land to activate to use him. I'm not saying he is a bad card, but I think he is holding back your deck from its full potential and play your spells faster and more of them each turn. i think he would be great as a two of in your deck.

November 4, 2013 7:56 p.m.

Long_Con says... #19

Funny you should say that, because the physical dek currently only has 2 Mutavaults. I should be receiving two more in the mail for some playmat designs I did. I agree that they can hurt the chances of a turn 2/3 Captain/Reckoner, but you may be underestimating the effectiveness of the Mutavault in this deck.

It's great for activating Battalion - the Boros Elite loves when I play him first turn, and then a Mutavault and either Cavalry Pegasus or Imposing Sovereign second turn. If the other two arrive, I'm going to try them, and maybe I will find that four is too many.

after JOU is in, Deicide may be more relevant to have than Glare of Heresy .

April 21, 2014 9:27 a.m.

Long_Con says... #21

Deicide will definitely find its place into my sideboard, but it is more likely to replace the Ratchet Bomb or Rootborn Defenses , which I basically never side in.

Has cavalry pegasus been doing good for u in games?

April 22, 2014 1:24 a.m.

Long_Con says... #23

Cavalry Pegasus often gets a raised eyebrow from opponents and observers, and I can tell they're thinking that it's a noobish decision, a crappy card... but believe me, there are more opponents that have gained respect for it in this deck.

In my last FNM (where I finally got first place with it), more than one opponent chose to use their removal on the Pegasus instead of something that seemed more powerful like Frontline Medic or Precinct Captain . And it's because they realized that the Pegasus was going to be the key to a quick victory. :)

+1 for Cavalry Pegasus . I absolutely love the card, and it sucks that he is hated on so much. Come JOU, I plan on running him in a B/W Humans deck with Xathrid Necromancer and Athreos, God of Passage .

April 23, 2014 12:54 a.m.

Is it possible for this deck to work without Mutavault ? I have all of the other cards (save one Brimaz), but cannot afford a playset of Mutavault .
