This deck is a work in progress for when Magic Origins comes out. The idea of the deck is to draw a metric crap ton of cards and break Sphinx's Tutelage over my opponent's head.
I have set my mind on Sultai for colors. Black just offers so much that it makes me feel crazy not taking it.
So here is a brief analysis of the corner stones for the deck.
Sphinx's Tutelage- This card is the star of the show. A card that mills 2 with the possibility of milling more EACH TIME YOU DRAW! This deck can draw an insane amount of cards and have the ability to mill my opponent faster than I can mill myself out by drawing. With how much you draw, you can very easily have multiple Sphinx's Tutelage on the field and at that point, your opponent might as well concede because being able to win will be very difficult.
Monastery Siege- This card brings a lot to the table for being just 3 mana. You can adjust it to be used to draw more or use it to make your opponent's spells cost way more than they are worth. This utility is really nice to have and helps lengthen the game or shorten it up depending on the situation.
Dictate of Kruphix- Another great draw engine that you can play at the end of your opponents turn. Best used if you can bluff about having a
Sultai Charm
in your hand and end up playing Dictate when your opponent ends their turn.
Eidolon of Blossoms- This is a great card as it allows you to draw a bunch of cards when you play the rest of your enchantments or enchantment creatures. This card already replaces itself due to its constellation effect. If you have a choice to play this and Sphinx's Tutelage on your turn, it is generally best to play the Eidolon first as it will replace itself and when you play Tutelage, you will get it replaced due to constellation and get a Tutelage trigger.
Herald of the Pantheon- This is such a sweet card as it not only gains you life whenever you play your enchantments. it also makes them cost 1 less. Having two out makes your mana so efficient it is nuts. Combine it with Courser of Kruphix and you will be able to play a massive amount enchantments, draw a bunch of cards, and ultimately, mill your opponent to death.
Alhammarret's Archive- This is an interesting card as it doesn't have an immediate affect on the game state. However, try following it up with a
Dark Deal
and you will be milling your opponent out for a lot. Plus, it synergizes with all of the cards that gain you life and draw you cards. I was hesitant on having it in the deck at first but after trying it out and play testing with it, I am not worried about spending 5 mana to play this card.
I am very indifferent in what I should have in the sideboard. The LGS meta is Mardu Dragons, Temur Dragons, Esper Dragons, Mono Green Counters, RDW, Temur Monsters, Abzan Control, Abzan Midrange and various homemade decks. I suspect Golgari Elves and Burn to be played once Origins comes in. I was thinking about having Bile Blight or Drown in Sorrow against Elves, Mono Green Devotion, and RDW. A 4th Monastery Siege against Burn. A 4th Infinite Obliteration and Negates against Esper Dragons and Mardu Dragons. Maybe Languish against Temur Monsters. I could even throw in
Archetype of Imagination
against Dragon Decks as well. Any ideas?
