Let's Kruphix This Out!

Commander / EDH*

bloodredChili

Do everything you've always wished for in Magic!

Prosperity!

Short Description: 1.) Draw cards, ramp mana, store both with Kruphix. 2.) Play everything you can within the Simic Colors.

Long Description: Under Construction

Tooth and Nail

Rite of Replication *kicked*

Note: Progenitor Mimic does the same thing but in another pace and presumable less times - for he gets killed.
Another idea is to flicker the creatures with an ETB effect with Deadeye Navigator. If you get through with this, then you're unstoppable.

This part focuses on the experimental side of the deck. This is where I show some ideas and experiences while playing this deck. Therefore this section will grow as the deck gets older.
Feel free to contribute your ideas for new experiments! This is Simic, after all.

  • The question is whether to tutor for Seedborn Muse or Prophet of Kruphix, if you get the chance. While the second one is abnormously better I tend to tutor for the first one. Reason is: She gets killed or countered way less. I mean, she's a good target for kill or removal herself, but nothing screams BAD NEWS FOR YOU! as much as Prophet of Kruphix. Especially in the early game I'll go for the Muse.

  • I'm currently experimenting with Prosperity. When having a Consecrated Sphinx on the field this cards gives me so much value for even less mana the more opponents I have. Besides, paired with Psychosis Crawler this turns in an unexpected win condition.

  • Unexpected Results is one of my favorite cards in this deck. As the name says, you never know what's going to come and with this deck it sure is going to be fun. Worst case you get a land out of it and repeat the process.

  • With Kruphix, God of Horizons as my Commander an opening hand with four lands is an opening hand I keep. I would never do this with another deck, but Kruphix saves it all.

  • I'm waiting for the day I can try out this combination - an experiment that could go terribly wrong:
1.) Selective Memory 2.) Primal Surge = Play every permament in your deck for 14 mana!

  • Having seen a friend of my enjoying himself with Lazav, Dimir Mastermind as a Commander I thought of doing something similar. I either use Mimic Vat on my own creatures once they depart or to misuse creatures my opponents lost. I haven't had the chance to test this idea so far, but it might be really good.

  • Conjurer's Closet might be a great add-on to this built. The goald is to flicker creatures with ETB effects. The card acts on its own pace and I have yet to verify the efficency of it.

  • You've already played everything you wanted? How about doing it one more time? The Praetor's Counsel came to the conclusion to grant you this wish. Besides: No maximum handsize for you anymore - very Kruphix like.

Most of the time I keep my counterspells to ensure my experiments take place. "To counter the counter" you could say. This is why Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir is such a bro in this deck. Once on the field he makes sure no-one but you gets to counter - since they are Instants in nature.

The following is a list of the counters I use.

  • Counterspell is the best counterspell you could ever wish for.

  • Dissipate is great if you're dealing with graveyard-based decks and really need to get rid of a creature. Obviously it's pretty great at countering anything else, as well.

  • Mana Leak has its prime in my deck but it has proven itself very useful. Very often a player builds up his mana until he or she can finally cast that great spell. Well guess what - you won't!

  • Now Plasm Capture is one of my favorites. Not only is he very efficent at countering but he also contributes to the idea of ramping mana. The bigger the spell you've countered the greater your turn is gonna be. And never forget: With Kruphix as your Commander that mana can be well stored for later, as well.

  • I'm currently experimenting with Rewind. How often did you have to counter a spell only to lose the mana you've wanted to spend on something really funny? Now this is the solution.

  • Time Stop is one of the greates contributions to this deck. It counters anything by removing it from the stack - you remove it from the game!. Otherwise it's also great at stopping an attack and generally stopping an overwhelming opponent from doing his chord.

  • While being no counterspell as such Capsize is pretty neat at getting rid off the things you were not able to stop. Besides, the card's got Buyback printed on it. How great is that?!

So you may wonder why there's no Cryptic Command in here. Well, despite it being one of the best blue spells ever printed I'm seldomly seeing myself to enjoy playing that card. It has never been unexpected and I'm not a big fan on the most modes of this card. I mean, most of the time you have to counter and tap things when playing this card - which is not really something I like to do. I'd rather play my spells than hindering others from playing theirs. That's why a funny card like Unexpected Results took that slot.

38 Lands is my standard manabase. No different for this deck. In fact I have never played a deck with such a short amound of mana rocks - which is almost zero. As long as Kruphix is your Commander this works out perfectly! So let's start the exploration of this deck's means to grow mana.

  • We've got three creatures to ramp for mana: Solemn Simulacrum, Burnished Hart and Sakura-Tribe Elder - very classic.

  • Cultivate and Kodama's Reach help us to balance out the blue and green mana. This way having three forests on your starting hand together with one of said cards ensures you to play-out your Commander very soon. 4th turn Kruphix is very neat!

  • Kruphix, God of Horizons stores everything for you. Every time you were not tapped-out at the end of the round, you're gonne do so just to store if with Kruphix. And if you got something like Seedborn Muse on the field you can repeat this process on anybodies' endturn. Once Kruphix is on the field he stays. Never seen him leave the battlefield.

  • Speaking of a great amount of mana: Try Doubling Cube. For only 3 mana you can sky-rocket your manabase!

  • Oracle of Mul Daya is a very neat card. It contributes to the fundamental idea of this deck: To generate mana for great spells.

  • If you're a fan of infinite combos try this one out: Palinchron + Deadeye Navigator. Now your manabase is infinte - for ever!

  • From Beyond is a pretty new card and I really love it in this deck. Not only does it slowly fill up my manabase, but with Kruphix as my Commander I have no need to hurry by sacrificing the Scions for good mana. Once they die Kruphix puts their value on the stable. That's why I'll keep them around as long as possible. They even create some synergy for Craterhoof Behemoth!

So why the lack of manarocks in this deck? Basically it's pretty similar to the discussion about counterspells: If something is not crucial I won't grant it a slot. Usually manarocks are fundamental - I know that! But this deck is abnormously good at budgeting its manabase. A classic mana rock, Commander's Sphere, is currently holding a slot in here. But honestly, I haven't had the chance to play it so far and I only keep it here for it really is a very good card.

"The horizon is tantalizing in both its uncertainty and its potential."
