I see some similarities to this and my GyreGiant deck, although mine will change dramatically when the next set releases... maybe to look more like this =) Somewhat surprised not to see Abrupt Decay , as some have already suggested. A shame this is post rotation... Essence Harvest ::evil giggle::

Abrupt Decay ...would that I were not too cheap to own four of them. :)
This could indeed be more broken if I weren't already planning on post-rotation stuff. Essence Harvest would be boss!

I love the deck! It currently stands up to my current standard deck BUT THIS ONE IS POST ROTATION!!! This could very well be the direction I head leading up to rotation. Very nice +1

Thanks, Phat_Shadow! It's pretty fun to play, even though it would be more badass with like 4 Putrefy and 4 Abrupt Decay...I like fighting stuff :D

Well the fighting style goes well if you're going to keep the vampire in there. However it may be worth the trade if theros comes out with anything that may fit this. Just something to keep an eye on.
One thing that I've noticed after playtesting a bit is that I like the build a little bit better with -2xKorozda Guildmage -1xHunt the Weak , and +3xScavenging Ooze . I know you had mentioned your aversion to high price cards in a previous comment but I find the ooze to be well worth the trade especially if Corpsejack Menace is on the battlefield.

It's true, Ooze would be perfect in this deck! He's going to replace the Korozda Guildmage when I get him.

One more idea is to ditch the 3(or 4) Hunt the Weak for either Abrupt Decay or Putrefy . I know you like fighting stuff because of the vampire, but with that change, I would also ditch the two vampire for two Kalonian Hydra (if you can get them).
This goes against what you "like" but adds a TON more synergy to the deck when combined with cards like Corpsejack Menace and all those cards other cards you have concerning counters. For instance:
Turn 1 - Mana, Slitherhead
Turn 2 - Mana, Swing with Slitherhead and if he dies, its ok. Play Scavenging Ooze on second main. Now they wish they didn't trade for the Slitherhead .
Turn 3 - Mana, Dreg Mangler . You can use the scavenge counter for the Slitherhead or save it for next turn, depending. Swing with the mangler (and possibly the ooze). If the mangler dies then thats more counters later.
Turn 4- Mana, Corpsejack Menace (now it's about to get ugly). Scavange the Slitherhead for two counters and put them on whoever (Scavenging Ooze maybe?).
Turn 5- Mana, Kalonian Hydra . Do whatever you can to hold until next turn.
Turn 6- Use the ooze to put counters on stuff, then swing with anything that has counters. All the counters TRIPLE before damage is assigned and now you have a beastly army. (With the situation described above (assuming you scavenged the ooze on turn 4) this would be an 8/8 ooze, a 7/7(or a 9/9) menace, POSSIBLY a 6/6 mangler, and a 12/12 hydra!)
Granted this is a "best-case-scenerio" but the synergy works so many other ways with the other cards that you have in here.

Ever consider using Forced Adaptation
in the place of Burst of Strength
? I play something similar, but find that with the Dreg Mangler
and Slitherhead
, a lot of players tend to avoid using creature removal on them. If I pop on a Forced Adaptation
,and they are left there for a few turns, you have a nice +1/+1 per upkeep. Just a thought.

Scavenging Ooze is awesome and the lifegain helps, but I built and played this deck for about seven or eight games yesterday and the guildmage did cool things almost every game. In one case, I had a big ol' 10/10 Desecration Demon out and I swung and my friend double blocked it with Shadowborn Demon and a demon token (I completely forgot double blocking was a thing for a minute) and instead of the demon dying, I pumped it up with the guildmage's first ability and it survived. And at one point, the demon got hit with a kill spell and I blew it up into a ton of saprolings and continued to do work. 1/1s don't seem dangerous until you have to deal with a flood of them. :P the guildmage cane in handy, definitely. It made the difference between life and death and, also, it made sure the creatures who got built up didn't die in vain. Good card, for sure, but that's just my two cents. Fun deck. +1 for sure. :P

Phat_Shadow when you have Kalonian Hydra and Corpsejack Menace on the field, during combat, you will swing with the hydra which doubles the counters already on each creature, then corpsejack will double again, so in this case, it would be quadruple. not triple.if you had two corpsejack on the field their would be 8x the counters. (that's including the swing with the hydra) look at my deck, g/b counters, it's awesome.
August 13, 2013 4:43 p.m.
and when you play Kalonian Hydra on the field, it starts out at 8/8 instead of 4/4 if you have one Corpsejack Menace 16/16 if you have two. read the cards and think hard. :D

@dvizzier That's a good one, so I asked it on MTG Q&A; let's see what the experts say!
August 13, 2013 6:29 p.m.
i asked paid judges and people who have been playing since the game was invinted. they are the experts.
August 13, 2013 8:18 p.m.
the MTG Q&A is correct, i think i was being delusional when i was trying to correct triple into quadruple. but yes when you play the hydra with the corpsejack you get 8/8 instead of a 4/4 then you swing with the hydra, it doubles the counters on each of your creatures so if a creature had two counters on it, it would get +4 if you had two corpsejack on the field it would get +8 more counters is what i was trying to explain.
August 13, 2013 8:28 p.m.
if Kalonian Hydra swung as an 8/8 with two Corpsejack Menace on the field, the hydra would turn into a 40/40.
August 13, 2013 8:36 p.m.
keeping with post rotation; Varolz, the Scar-Striped would make a great fit. If they kill off a dude, scavenge it to the Witchstalker and beat face :)
August 14, 2013 10:08 p.m.
I also vote for Varolz, the Scar-Striped , I mean for 4 mana scavenge a Desecration Demon for 6 +1+1 counters, plus the regenerate, shits good maybe drop 2 Hunt the Weak and help your mana-curve.
August 15, 2013 2:38 p.m.
MinscAndBoo says... #21
That is a good suggestion, Varolz works here, the trouble is my other three-drops seem to work better: Witchstalker is a hexproof plate to pile +1/+1 counters on, and Dreg Mangler is hasty while also providing his own Scavenge.
Removing removal is also hard to sell, since repeated Hunt the Weak on Witchstalker is so brutal!
Will keep the troll legend in mind though, and if I find myself wishing I had one in play, he'll find a home.
August 15, 2013 2:44 p.m.
Maybe drop a Golgari Guildgate and a Hunt the Weak then?
I think 23 land is enough, hell I would go with 22, but thats just because I hate being flooded with mana.
August 15, 2013 3:10 p.m.
MinscAndBoo says... #23
Hmm, that might be worth doing since I run four elves already. Let's see what happens...
August 15, 2013 3:32 p.m.
looks good, maybe after rotation when Lingering Souls and other little tiny creatures that can chump the fatties, this deck will shine.
and even before then Korozda Guildmage and a Desecration Demon do some nasty shenanigans, +1 from me.
MinscAndBoo says... #1
Slitherhead is in here mainly to enable Mutant's Prey in case I don't draw one of my other counter-adding cards. The curve is pretty top-heavy so I wanted a cheap way of getting a +1/+1 on a bro.
