Just your run of the mill constructed Spike looking to have a little fun with mono blue in commander! Have you ever loved a spell so much you wanted to cast it twice! Well you're in Luck! Blue_XIII here to give you Lier, Disciple of the Drowned. Lier slaps, smacks, and throws the whole sink back with his static of giving ALL SPELLS FLASHBACK. With the odd effect of nullifying all countermagic for a mono Blue commander?

Leir, Disciple of the drowned requires a slight modification in deck building, needing to focus more on "soft" counters that focus more on "bouncing" spells rather than hard countering them. Thankfully there has been quite a few odd counters printed throughout the years that work perfectly with Lier, such as Summary Dismissal, Divide by Zero, Narset's Reversal, and Unsubstantiate. We also have modal counters that have other effects for when Leir is on the battlefield and negating countermagic. Cards like Archmage's Charm, Cryptic Command, and Mystic Confluence can be cast or re-cast using another mode to tap permeants, return permanents, or simply draw cards.

Lier, Disciple of the Drowned also synergizes very well with extra turn spells that don't exile, so Time Warp & Walk the Aeons can be double cast with Lier. Honorable mention to Expropriate as an "I win" spell that is needed to end long games.

  1. Good old Dramatic Reversal + Isochron Scepter + Mana Rocks = Infinite mana, storm count, and creature tokens from token makers

  2. Spell Slinging with Lier, Disciple of the Drowned + Brain Freeze / Aetherflux Reservoir = Lier's 2x spell static ability makes storiming off fairly easily. Can build a high storm count and fireball/mill out opponents

  3. Poppet Stitcher  , Murmuring Mystic, Docent of Perfection  , Shark Typhoon + Extra Turn spells = More tokens and more combat steps to kill opponents with tokens.

See the Truth = A very synergistic effect that acts as cars selection on it's face and an Ancestral Recall for 1U when cast by Lier

Secrets of the Dead = An active Secrets with Lier equals endless card draw and when paired with High Tide you'll have plenty of mana to cast all of your value!

Misdirection = Acts as a worseForce of Will, but also still works when Lier is on the battlefield.

Lion's Eye Diamond = Synergizes very well with Lier and sometimes lets us go for a T1 Lier! can recast the cards we discarded and rebuild the hand very quickly. Bonus points if you discard a Time Spiral and recast it from the graveyard to immediately refill the hand. Lion's Eye Diamond is a risky card, but that mana advantage is too hard to pass up!

Mnemonic Deluge = A fun spell that keeps this deck out of the cEDH power range. Pairs very well with the various Time Walks in the deck. To make the deck more competitive, this is an easy cut.

Catalyst Stone = OH LORD! This card synergizes so well with the deck. Reducing the cost of ALL spells we're flashing back will make them easy to chain reportedly.

We are already at a huge disadvantage by not playing blue or streamlining and simply playing more low to the ground cards or a Thassa's Oracle. So we need to keep plays close to the vest, help disrupt the table, interfere with winning player's, and bide our time until it's time to combo off. There's certainly enough mana ramp and fast mana to have an explosive combo game, but most games this should play out like a midrange storm, combo, or value deck. We're going to play smart, play resourceful, and use the other blue players at the table to keep the other decks in check.

Early game plays are going to be spent on developing the board, setting up engines and looing to resolve Lier early and often.

So that's the V1 of the deck. If we were to take the deck into cEDH territory all you'd have to do is cut the clunky spells, lower the curve, and have a more efficient or immediate win-com.
