I like this for a budget deck, some cards that may benefit it are Felidar Sovereign and Whitesun's Passage . I wish I could give a better opinion right now but sadly I am pressed for time as the semester comes to a close. Also, Blind Obedience may not be a bad fit for the deck as it is relatively cheap at the moment

Felidar Sovereign
is in the non budget version because it is kind of pricey. Life Steal . Blind Obedience
would only be useful for its tapping effect since extort hasn't really had much of a role in this deck since it's first prototype. But Whitesun's Passage
seeems great for a 2 CMC. Definitely better than Angel's Mercy
so I'll look into it. It would be a back up for Rest for the Weary
if I don't always have a land to play. But I'm pretty happy with that card atm.
Thanks 2austin5

Esper Panorama and Evolving Wilds place a land onto the battlefied tapped which means they take two turns to be effective. This is the same speed as Orzhov Guildgate which can generate one of either mana. The only beneficial replacement I can think of in a budget version would be more basic land that can be used straight away since the instantly effective dual lands are more expensive.

@Cyrrus That's why you sac 'n search on your opponent's end step. Since the Esper Panorama and Evolving Wilds enter untapped, and the only real reason to tap them is for the sac 'n search, you wait til your opponent's end step. Then the retrieved land enters tapped, turn changes, and your untap phase begins. It's the same principle as instant speed tokens or flash creatures. :D Although Caves of Koilos are pretty cheap, and the damage would be pretty much nullified dozens of times over considering this is a lifegain deck.

Evolving Wilds doesn't generate mana unless you sac it making it still the same speed. I guess Esper Panorama is faster in that it generates colorless but since most of my cats are 1 CMC with colour requirements it could slow me down early game. I'll have to look into Caves of Koilos

Caves of Koilos might slow down my life gain a bit. early game that could be a problem

Ah, because this is a budget deck, Auriok Champion would not fit, but would be a good addition to the deck.

What about the following?
Felidar Sovereign - Yeah, $6 each but for $12 you'd have a strong alternative win con.
The above could serve as bombs for your deck.
Also, consider Oblivion Ring over Unmake . While more vulnerable to removal, it will hit potentially lethal artifacts or enchantments.
Consider lowering your life gain dorks to 3x each to allow late game fuel.

Feudkiller's Verdict actually seems pretty awesome but i think it distracts from my focus of spamming cheap creatures for life.
I agree with you on Felidar Sovereign which is why it's already in my non-budget version (Life Steal) but i think i'll keep the price down on this one. Unmake is actually already in both of these life steal decks and I think I wanna sideboard some Oblivion Ring s because with this budget version, as soon as Vizkopa Guildmage comes into play he becomes the number 1 target assuming they catch onto my plan. with Oblivion Ring i could exile my own creatures for protection or use it as control. but i'd need a way to remove my own enchantment for the protection part to workI think i'll take a few trials and let you know how it goes.June 9, 2013 6:52 a.m.

I think you should add more Gift of Orzhova . They turn Ajani's Pridemate into a lifegain engine, even if he's blocked, which is less likely since he would have flying. I would take out all of the Rest for the Weary and add in 2 more Gift of Orzhova and 1 more Unmake or Cathedral Sanctifier . 1-off lifegain normally isn't that effective, especially since you want to play Ajani's Pridemate on turn 2 anyway. Gift of Orzhova will probably net you more life in the long run. Otherwise, I like the deck.
+1!

I'm planning to write an article on budget Modern decks, would you mind if I used this in the article?
June 27, 2013 10:40 p.m.
Go for it. I would be honored!
Most of my decks are budget but this one is definitely my favorite. But when I actually play it I raise the budget slightly by replacing 3x Ajani's Pridemate with 3x Serra Ascendant and 2x Gift of Orzhova with 2x Cathedral Sanctifier .June 28, 2013 12:11 a.m.
Don't worry, I got notified haha. And to qualify under the "budget" for my first modern article the price has to be under 120 dollars. Since this is significantly less than that you could change it to those if you want. But it doesn't matter.

I've decided to modify the way I do my articles and make them much more in depth at the cost of the number of decks featured in each article. Your deck WILL make it into an article, but it may take longer than I anticipated for it to show up.

haha that's ok xzzane. my original statement still stands. I would be honored!

Are this one going to work in m14 or does any of this cards not working ? And if so wich one would not work+1
July 12, 2013 7:08 p.m.
It should still work. I can't think of any reason why it wouldn't. I'll get back to you on that.
and thanks for the +1July 14, 2013 10:26 a.m.
At first, I like this deck. Orzhov is mana combination of my heart and this deck is just great for how much it costs. +1.
Secondly, I read how you did against that Bant. From my point of view, for maybe the next time you play this deck, if you have Serra Ascendant and Martyr of Sands on your opening hand, your turn 1 would be better with Plains and Serra Ascendant , then on turn 2 Martyr of Sands , sacrifice him (that ability is not affected by summoning sickness), get 12 or 15 lives, depending if you played as 1st or as 2nd on the turn 1, and attack with Serra Ascendant for 6. This is much more effective then what you did. And also, personally, the turn you were attacked by Rafiq, better would have been to let him go through to get 10 lives down, then block the second attack with Cathedral Sanctifier . Blocking with Serra Ascendant was the thing why you have lost - next turn you had 2 blockers, so, you may had less life, but you would have won.
I hope that you won't be displeased with this I wrote, at least I'm always glad when somebody tell me some other point of view, one never stop learning, even in MtG :)
But again great deck, you have my +1 as I already said and sorry for so long comment

+1 but do suggest Suture Priest , it helps a lot with control and insanely good for how much it costs.

I could say that Sorin, Solemn Visitor could work in here because of the life gain from his first ability.
April 29, 2015 4:39 p.m.
I would trade out Orzhov Guildgate for Scoured Barrens and/or Orzhov Basilica
December 14, 2015 6:09 p.m.
Maybe with the Ajani's Pridemate you could put Essence Harvest.

@dbrannon that would make my deck exactly the same as yours. Not really my intention. But thanks anyway :)
