This is the latest iteration of my mono-green Modern Elf deck. It's fast; insanely fast. It's strong; plane-smashing strong. The game plan is as simple as simple gets, a "fair" deck if ever there was one: bring out lots of Elves to hit the opponent until they go away. There's no removal, and little combat trickery. We have Elves who channel green mana into huge power-ups, go Super Saiyan, and outrace the opponent's game plan.
The deck includes many Elf staples, such as Ezuri, Renegade Leader, Elvish Archdruid, and Collected Company. Fueling this lightning-fast ramp into overwhelming power are the 1-drop mana dorks like Elvish Mystic and Llanowar Elves. Another favorite,
Heritage Druid
, has tremendous synergy with relative newcomer Dwynen's Elite, which completely overshadows Nettle Sentinel in terms of enabling this explosive ramp.
The latest addition is a very potent ramp spell in Harvest Season. With it, this deck can reliably have 4 creatures and 6 lands out by the end of turn 2. You probably already see how:
T1: Forest, Elvish Mystic
T2: Forest,
Heritage Druid
, tap Elvish Mystic and second land for Dwynen's Elite, tap the Elite plus the Elf token and
Heritage Druid
for 3 mana, cast Harvest Season. You have 4 tapped creatures, so you search out 4 Forests and put them out. Congratulations, you now have one-third of the deck's entire land base out on the field by the end of your second turn. This thins the deck of lands, of which you won't need anymore, and helps give you fuel for the awesome creature power you'll be drawing.
The beauty of Elves is that there's rarely a bad alternative to this. On turn 2, instead of Harvest Season you can put out Elvish Archdruid, then on turn 3 tap a bunch of Elves for mana, throw down Ezuri, and prepare for a massive turn 4 overkill. Or perhaps even go for the perfect-hand turn 3 win. You have so many creatures out that the opponent has precious little choice but to use any and all removal ASAP. Kill the Archdruid? Then
Heritage Druid
enables you to ramp into an attack or more bodies, including more lords. Kill Ezuri, Renegade Leader? All those lords with their static buffs spread across 6-7 bodies is still lethal. Board sweepers? Lead the Stampede is peerless in restocking and renewing your momentum. Collected Company puts threats out on the opponent's turn so you're ready to go for the win on yours.
The one area in which I still need help is the sideboard. I'm not sure what all to put in it besides what I have listed. The mainboard seems quite strong, and incredibly fast. Harvest Season is potentially very potent with
Heritage Druid
and Dwynen's Elite. It replaced Copperhorn Scout for now; I love that card because she untaps your other creatures, allowing you to double down on an Archdruid-fueled Ezuri Overrun attack, and leave blockers if somehow they survive. But right now, Harvest Season seems ridiculously strong in the deck, and I haven't seen too many decks using it to this level of effect. More testing is required.
Please, share your thoughts on the mainboard, sideboard, strategy, or your experiences with the deck if you play it.
