I wonder if Ghostly Flicker would work well here with all your etb effects.

September 22, 2015 6:45 p.m.

Really like the deck. Sarkhan is my favorite walker and I want to see him have a home in a good deck. Maybe there is room somewhere for a few copies of Scavenging Ooze as a mana sink with incidental life gain and a way to disrupt the opponent's graveyard?

September 23, 2015 1:02 a.m.

@Arctyr Ghostly Flicker would be nice, but it does not do much on an empty board state. Granted, this deck is almost never playing with an empty hand due to all the draw. But one of the strengths of a card can usually be found in "what if I am in top deck mode and I draw this? Will it help me stabilize?" I am not sure Ghostly Flicker fits the bill. It feels like it would be a win more card in this deck.

@captainbuttercream I do love Scavenging Ooze and have fought hard to find room for it. But I have just not been seeing where I can cram it. I could maybe find some sideboard room for it. What would be your cuts?

September 23, 2015 12:09 p.m.

Hmmm, I'm really not sure. Maybe one Keranos since the other is a dead draw and I think Sarkhan is actually a faster clock. I don't know if I would be brave enough to run Slagstorm since it kills almost everything you run, but you are playing the long game. How is Eternal Witness for you? What do you usually target with it since you are already running 3 Snapcaster Mage? It may be the right call to leave out the Ooze.

Have you managed to play the deck yet? If so, what sort of match up did you have?

September 23, 2015 1:19 p.m.

I am bringing it to my shop on Saturday, so it will get it's first real tests then. I know the meta is very Tron and Twin heavy. there is one guy that has been piloting Twisted Sisters though in a lot of the local shops and he has been doing very well with it. It seems to have a lot of good match ups vs many meta decks.

As for the Eternal Witness, it normally digs me back up a Cryptic Command. That way I can use it another 2 times (cast + Snapcaster Mage. But I have used it to bring back a Thragtusk after a Slagstorm. I have considered Firespout as the option to only hit fliers may be relevant in saving some of my creatures from the wipe, but the fact that Slagstorm can hit face won me over.

I could put Scavenging Ooze in the sideboard and take out any combination of Batterskull, Feed the Clan, Obstinate Baloth, and Beast Within. But I like Batterskull vs control, Feed the Clan vs burn, Obstinate Baloth vs abzan/jund, and Beast Within is just a nice catch all.

How did you do this weekend?

September 27, 2015 8:54 p.m.

I did not get a chance to play it. My shop normally has Modern every Saturday. But with BFZ coming out, the weekend was filled with BFZ drafts. There are some events at other shops throughout the week though, so I might try to sneak over to another shop. If nothing else, this coming Saturday I will for sure be able to play it.

@ captainbuttercream Updated with tournament results. Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip was an mvp. I only drew Sarkhan Unbroken twice. Both times in the 3rd match. He did work both times. Although the 4/4 flying dragons kept on getting killed by his Flickerwisps... in just about any other match up, they would have been too much to handle.

Would aether vital be good? I say that because you have the e witness cryptic loop, so you can vial in eternal witness pickup cryptic, less mana constrictive and gives you 0 mana end step uncounterable snapcaster mages and goyfs. Boseiju out of the side could create a soft lock with cryptic eternal witness against other blue control decks. And maybe scooze instead of tormods crypt.

October 5, 2015 6:19 a.m.

It would be decent. And I know I have thought about it. If I were running more witnesses I totally would. But I have found that by the time I draw into a witness, I have enough mana to not only play witness and cryptic... but play witness at instant speed with alchemist ' s refuge for the loop. It isn't uncounterable... but my opponent is usually top decking at that point anyways unless it is another control deck -- and I can always burn my cryptic in hand to counter the counter with my counter.

October 5, 2015 12:19 p.m.

I have been playing around with the number Huntmaster of the Fells  Flip. I had 2, but Temur Charm under performed, so I pumped huntmaster to 3. But I think 3 might be too many. I have a Nissa, Vastwood Seer  Flip in that flex spot now. But maybe another Eternal Witness? Thundermaw Hellkite? Garruk Relentless  Flip? Garruk Wildspeaker? Mainboard Thrun, the Last Troll?

October 5, 2015 3:36 p.m. Edited.

Are you reliably hitting 7 lands to flip Nissa? If not I don't see how it's better than another eternal witness. I really like Garruk Wildspeaker, he may be and option as he generates token and mana ramps. Or you could go totally rogue and split the difference between Nissa and Eternal Witness with Coiling Oracle, it either mana ramps or cantrips while providing a chump blocker.

October 21, 2015 3:19 p.m.

Games always go long, and with Serum Visions, I never have difficulty hitting 7 lands. I do like Garruk Wildspeaker, but his +1 really doesn't help much as I rarely want to tap out in this deck unless I feel safe in laying down Keranos, God of Storms, or Sarkhan Unbroken on turn 5... which is rare. More turns than not, I usually draw go due to the number of instants or things with flash that I have. I would like more room for another Eternal Witness to make locks with Cryptic Command that much easier. But the deck doesn't focus on that. It is just something that the deck can do.

Is this what you meant by my Temur deck not being good? I prefer your deck to mine. But I still like having Primordial Hydra in my deck.

Great deck! I have no suggestions; it works well. +1

Anger of the Gods over Slagstorm? I get that Slagstorm can go to the face, but isn't exiling much more important in the current meta?

December 31, 2016 6:23 p.m.

Thylian1

I have began to consider it. As you said, Slagstorm can go for face. But one of the biggest reasons I I do not want it to exile my Thragtusks. But being able to combat dredge might more than make up for that trade off -- especially as I can always side out my $wagtusks in that match up. How would you suggest I make the split? Should I then mainboard Scavenging Ooze over Thragtusk? I guess I can see myself going 2x Scavenging Ooze, 2x Anger of the Gods in the main and then going 1x Thragtusk and 1x Slagstorm in the side?

What are your thoughts on Young Pyromancer? I think it has potential in your list. I love the huntmaster, by the way. Also what are your thoughts on Sarkhan Vol?

December 31, 2016 7:28 p.m. Edited.

cplvela0811

I like Young Pyromancer, but I am not sure he fits quite in this specific shell. Perhaps a shell that is a little less like tap out control and more like a traditional draw go list. I feel like I don't have quite enough instants and sorceries to really abuse him. In regards to Sarkhan Vol, I feel as though he is tricky. I like him as a walker, but he doesn't really do much in the way of protecting himself -- which makes me want to play him in more of a control shell. However, his +1 is not very good unless you have tons of creatures. As such, I could actually see him as being good in a Temur list that actually uses Young Pyromancer. I might have to brew up a list. It sounds super fun!

I think you should go to 2 Scavenging Ooze in the main and the 2 angers that would be good.

Anger of the Gods exiLing Thragtusk doesn't deny you the 3/3 beast token. It's only when he leaves the battlefield. Either way I like the scooze more in the main

You're right... not sure why I thought Thragtusk was a death trigger. It is even one of my favorite cards of all time. Embarrassing. Good catch though! Thanks!

Have you considered Voidslime?

February 13, 2017 11:09 p.m.

I have considered Voidslime. But Mana Leak covers my early game, and Cryptic Command covers my late game. Not sure Voidslime covering the 3 drop counter is worth the include. the new Disallow is likely better than Voidslime too.

you should consider another eternal witness as they can get each other back over and over and chump block for ever its worth running 2 :Dnice deck i like the use of control spells to buff out goyf and keep the game open into mid game for the beat down with scavenging ooze and goyf +1
