Why no shadowborn demon?

July 9, 2013 10:04 p.m.

maybe instead of Murder , go with Go for the Throat , it costs one less, and you can sideboard Murder for playing against artifact decks, other than that, looks great, +1 from me :)

Thanks for the suggestions everyone! Corrupt and Doom Blade will be standard legal soon. I'm trying to get a viable deck ready. I want mono black to be a thing in standard! I enjoy it so much in modern.

Shadowborn demon is awesome, but seems too easy to deal with. Graveyard hate sideboarded and you won't have 6 creatures in graveyard.

well becouse this deck is looking ahead into M14 you could put in a buch of Shadowborn Apposle and more demons, add in two Immortal Servitude to bring them all back late game. then you could have a Griselbrand on turn three at the earliest

I'm not sure I like shadowborn apostle even with Immortal Servitude . It takes a lot to make it work and it doesn't even win you the game. There are no demons with hexproof or other forms of protection and the only demon that makes a large impact the turn it comes into play is Griselbrand and only if you have more than 7 life. Is it really worth it to put immortal servitude and the apostle in a deck just for another way to draw 7 cards?

True i guess it would b a compleatly different deck. but still a 7/7 flying lifelink attacking on turn four is pretty awsome but then again your opponet could just Supreme Verdict but still if your opponent isnt playing W/U then your good

I have a black splash red version of this deck posted that you can look at,where are the NIGHTMARES.

Loyalty says... #17

you would have a 7/7 flying lifelink on turn 5, but it wouldn't be able to attack until turn 6.

Have you considered Liliana's Reaver for the deck?

I love Liliana's Reaver, but I can't link it on this site yet. Nightmare is definitely being considered.

July 11, 2013 8:50 p.m.

+1 from me dude. I love the classic mono black brutality! Nice m14 inclusions in Doom Blade and Nightmare . Please feel free to check out my main brew The Voices of Selesnya. Comment or upvote if you like my ideas, or make a suggestion if you don't. :-)

So HumanOverlord. you play a swamp on turn 1 play an apposle. turn two play a swamp play two apposles. turn three play a swamp play three apposles then sacrifice them (that makes six apposles) and bring out Griselbrand but you would only have five as i just realized if you were on the play but you could have six if you were on the draw but whatever like i said it would be a diferent deck

@K1R0Y you're hugely missing the point of this deck and vastly overestimating the power of shadowborn apostle.

If you want to use apostle, you have to a) have a perfect number and b) sacrifice nearly all of the hand and creature control in this deck to stuff in more swamps and apostles.

Getting Griselbrand out t4 is nice, yeah. But I'd MUCH rather stuff in 4 Crypt Ghast and keep all my control cards and planeswalkers than have 30 apostles.

Your ideal scenario happens once in a blue moon and COMPLETELY depletes your hand. I hate to say it, but even a high-costed bomb like Grieselbrand still isn't worth coming at them through apostles at all.

hardc0re42 says... #22

I have to agree with Ryanman I would also rather have 4 Crypt Ghast and control cards.

July 12, 2013 11:11 a.m.

K1LR0Y says... #23

Ya i would like to have Crypt Ghast s too but like i said 3 times now it would b a different deck. be sides its nothing to ague over so just for get it. the point of the deck isnt to play Grislebrand and win with it its to control and then win. ya Grislebrand is awsome to get out and wins games but it isnt the main focus of the deck like it would b in a shadowborn apostle deck.

I would personally take out 2 Undying Evil and put in 2 more Doom Blade . Or replace the Murder s with Doom Blade .

Nitewarlord says... #25

take out wits end and undying evil, put em in sideboard to put in 2 doom blade, more nightmares more corrupt and you got yourself a great deck
