I would get rid of Disciple of Bolas if you want card advantage Underworld Connections would scratch that itch also Mutilate seems kind of self-distructey Ultimate Price may not be a board wipe but you're fine with seeing it when you have the better board presence

Nice deck! +1 from me!

I'd rather put Shrieking Affliction to the sideboard. Sure, it's a good card in discard decks, but I don't know if your discard spells are enough to get a big advantage of this card. I already built a discard deck and playtested it with a friend several times and if your opponent has something for his card draw it's quite useless. Moreover you should make enough damage with your big guys, so maybe kick it for more removal or whatever.

What do you typically name with cavern? Almost every creature has a different type. Have you considered the fancy new Shadowborn Demon ? I like him a lot more than Nightmare .

Seems a solid enough deck, not sold on Dash Hopes though or surgical mainboard. More creatures and maybe more removal. Doom Blade or the like.

I would also add some more creatures if possible, such as Deathrite Shaman . He burns them for 2 and denies them their graveyard.

Thanks for the idea of Deathrite Shaman . I am new to MTG in general and extremely new to Modern. Any suggestions for lands to get the Forest on the Deathrite?

You don't need the forest for him. You can just use him as black Grim Lavamancer .

I would just drop Dash Hopes and Surgical mainboard for another doom blade, 2 racks and a screaming affliction.

Would it help if I showed you my tweaks?

Tour discard spells need to be play sets so u can eat there hand and get The Rack and Shrieking Affliction going early and often. Also running Inquisition of Kozilek is good here.

Recycling cards from the grave is a good one too... If you want to use Deathrite Shaman and its Green Ability, you can add a set of Woodland Cemetery and/or Overgrown Tomb .

Verdant Catacombs , and Twilight Mire could help alot for mana fixing. They are quite pricy though.

Kickass 8Rack deck.

May I suggest 4x Deathrite Shaman on your sideboard. Drop 2x Doom Blade for it.

Drop 2x Extirpate or 2x Surgical Extraction or 1 & 1 to make room for 2x Smallpox which would rock in this deck.
