i would replace Heap Doll with Withered Wretch. the wretch is much better. i would get rid of Ashes to Ashes or Toxic Deluge. Killing Wave is really good.

Heap Doll can flip lilina, and is easier to reanimate with Lili. Killing Wave is actually kinda bad in edh. I want to get the promo, only because of the abundance of tokens in my meta. It'd make it into the sideboard at best.

And just for your information, Toxic Deluge is REALLY GOOD . I don't mean to shoot down your suggestions...

ok ok. but in the end, your deck must not rely on your commander, so honestly once you play Withered Wretch, people want him dead instantly.

i would also put in Necropotence because it is super powerful.

ok. but i would still throw in withered wretch. you already have a lot of sac outlets. i might even throw in Living Death if i were you due to high creature count and it is a really fun card.

I'll test it out, but I'm actually running very few creatures.

NecroPony, I think you're underestimating Silence the Believers. The point is that it's very flexible: it's scalable, is an instant and has no targeting restrictions. But if all that matters is exiling 2 (nonartifact) creatures, Ashes to Ashes is definitely far superior.

Also, how competitive of a build are you going for?

I don't know your feelings about Shriekmaw but it's one cheaper to play than Bone Shredder. Mortuary Mire should also probably be a Volrath's Stronghold - the repeatability is nice and the fact that it comes into play untapped.

I personally really like Trading Post - its a good way to get back things like Crucible of Worlds, The Chain Veil, etc and it gives you another sac outlet. Speaking of sac outlets - Nim Deathmantle (while not one directly) is very powerful. I run one in my Saffi Eriksdotter deck and find it easy to abuse the crap out of. Not to mention it gives you another infinite win condition with Mikaeus, the Unhallowed, Ashnod's Altar and Gray Merchant of Asphodel.

Another card worth mentioning is Dark Ritual. While it can be a dead draw at times, it enables T1 Lili as well as helping ramp into bigger stuff.

You will also want to include Strip Mine and as many fetches as you can afford - Bloodstained Mire is nice and cheap and Polluted Delta isn't too bad either with the recent reprint. At worst, they get you a swamp (or Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth makes them one) and at best you get one of them down with a Crucible of Worlds, meaning you hit your land drop every turn.

Hope this helps.

NotaNetDeck I can't really put my wishes for this deck into words. I want it to be good but not op enough that I can't play with the casual decks.

enpc I'll test out Shriekmaw, but my main Reanimation is Liliana, Defiant Necromancer  Flip's -X, so bone Shredder is better in long term value.

Volrath's Stronghold will be replacing mire the second I can find someone to trade it to me.

I dont think I run enough creatures to justify Trading Post, but I'll consider it.

I've always thought was a high price to pay. If it could be activated to reanimate I'd run it, but the need to have the mana open at time of death is really unintuitive.

Dark Ritual is something that I've considered before, but other people have said its lackluster. I do want to test it out however. And replacement suggestions?

I cut Strip Mine for the generally better Dust Bowl. The ability to save my Cabal Coffers from exile effects is pretty powerful.

Thanks for the suggestions all!

A few things i believe are missing from this deck: Grave Pact (and similar cards); easily recurred sacrifice fodder like Bloodsoaked Champion, Reassembling Skeleton, and Gravecrawler; and Urborg Justice which is criminally underplayed in mono-black decks.

A bit of fat to trim: creatures that don't do enough (my immediate thought is Bone Shredder. Sorcery speed targeted removal isn't good. Costing three twice isn't good. Waiting a full turn for the sacrifice effect isn't good. Use Shriekmaw instead); i know you love them, and have already defended them, but some of the lilianas should go since your commander is one, and you want your commander flipped often, and the legend rule disallows more than one lili on the field.

For Dark Ritual, I would probably recommend cutting Sword of the Animist or Duplicant. Those to me feel to be the weaker cards in the deck.

As for Strip Mine vs Dust Bowl, i would actually say Strip Mine is the more useful of the two. But ultimately, why not just run both?

I think I've reach the end point for this deck. The only thing I know for certain that I need is Karn Liberated. As such, I will be moving into defensive and logically defending my card choices. Maybe I'll make this a primer (should I make this a primer?) to explain how it works and what I want from it.

Sadly for you TheGreatLiar, You will bare the brunt of defensiveness, please don't take this as a personal attack on you.

  • Grave Pact suffers from that age old adage: IT doesn't do anything the turn it hits the board. It requires other cards to be good, and thus is situational. I want this deck to be flexible and so the card choices must have a myriad of uses.
  • Bloodsoaked Champion, Reassembling Skeleton, and Gravecrawler all lack something; board presence. None of them advance the game on their own. At least Bone Shredder kills something upon etb and acts as one of my few flying blockers. Plus the fact that Bloodsoaked Champion and Gravecrawler can't block make them really bad defensive cards. The early game for this deck is ramp, and/or flip Lili. Seeing the three suggested cards do neither of these they will not be added.I used to run Gravecrawler but it was often useless on its own and without another zombie, it is damn near useless.
  • Urborg Justice doesn't fit this deck too well, either, believe it or now. This deck doesn't sac a bunch of creatures, it sacrifices 1 creature multipul times over the course of a few turns. I'd rather run Malicious Affliction over it, and that didn't make the cut.
  • You, and so many other people have suggested Shriekmaw. The reason Bone Shredder makes the cut instead of Shriekmaw is that when Liliana flip, she has 3, this allows for automatic reanimation of Bone Shredder (and Burnished Hart and Fleshbag Marauder ect.) but not Shriekmaw. If I were to include Shriekmaw, Liliana would need to +2 and survive the round. I prefer the immediate value.I've rarely had issues with Liliana's subtype. If all else fails, I make the preexisting one a target and my opponents work themselves into a tizzy to solve my problem for me.
  • enpcIf that is the cost to add Dark Ritual, it's not worth it. Duplicant is one of my few answers to Iona, Shield of Emeria and plus exile is good for stuff such as Avacyn, Angel of Hope that seem to crop up in my meta.Sword of the Animist may one day leave the deck, but for now, the meta is casual enough that I get extra land drops with it, so it acts as another, no, better Liliana of the Dark Realms.Do you think 20 is enough Swamps in a Cabal Coffers edh deck?Again, don't take this as a personal attack, I've just been playing this deck more than you.

20 swamps should be enough. You have access to black tutors, Expedition Map and Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth. Not to mention you're running Eldrazi Temple and Eye of Ugin with only 2 eldrazi in the entire deck.

Also you should be running Deserted Temple as you can infinite mana combo with Cabal Coffers and Rings of Brighthearth.

While I haven't played THIS deck, I do have a Drana, Kalastria Bloodchief deck so I am well aware of the struggles and peculiarities of a mono black deck. But yeah, I know its nothing personal. And some stuff is meta call as well.

enpc I've been making a few changes online that do not reflect the paper build, namely:

  • added Karn Liberated
  • Added Fetch lands and tinkered with the landbase. Note the removal of Eldrazi Templethese changes are where I'd like to see the deck go, once I finish off the aquireboard.Any suggestions on what to remove for the Marsh Flats?

You can easily cut a Swamp for it. Short of a Blood Moon it's effectively a swamp. And the chances of you running out of swamps is very low.

    CuteSnail says... #19

I was thinking the same. I don't think I want to go below 20 swamps though, between spamming Burnished Hart, Liliana of the Dark Realms, Lake of the Dead and Bloodstained Mire + Rings of Brighthearth I worry that I may run out of swamps and in the end using those abilities will be a waste of time and mana.

TL:DR-> I worry about failing to find when fetching.

    October 7, 2015 11:56 a.m.

    CuteSnail says... #20

I even cut Sword of the Animist for a fetch land. I figured, it was better to up my land count and that it's a lot harder to Krosan Grip a Marsh Flats than a Sword of the Animist.

Update: I actually got a Karn. So that real. Now all I need is the fetches.

Any suggestions on what to cut for Diabolic Revelation? Because sometimes you need 2 tutors to get combo pieces.
