Lingering Burning Sensation

Modern Budget Burn Mono-Red Red Deck Wins

gfbeach

Sideboard

Formerly known as "Dynamite, Gunpowder, and Gasoline".

All of my other decks are very creature-heavy, so I wanted to build something less reliant on creatures and more on direct damage. This deck still has a decent number of creatures, but after turn 1 or 2 they function either as cheap blockers or ways to help generate burn.

Between the Scab-Clan Berserker s, Guttersnipes, and Curse of the Pierced Heart s, this deck can apply a lot of indirect burn that's hard to prevent. The straightforward burn spells work great, and the multi-function spells that damage both creatures and the controller ( Searing Blood , Chandra's Outrage) are incredibly useful in practice. If I have even two mana I can get things done, and this deck really starts to shine at 3. This deck ran in a casual, Vintage-legal tournament and was 2-2; knowing what I was running against, I'm very pleased with how well this ~$40 deck performed. :)

I've got some ideas on how to upgrade this deck ( Vexing Devil s, and Lightning Bolts)) but they would take this deck out of what I would consider 'budget', so I'm reluctant to do so.

I could use some help with the sideboard so feedback is greatly appreciated!

Updates Add

Ch-ch-ch-changes!

-3 Lightning Strike

-2 Mardu Scout

-1 Scab-Clan Berserker

-2 Dragon Fodder

-2 Rolling Temblor

+3 Incinerate

+1 Thunderous Wrath

+4 Guttersnipe

+2 Electrickery

The addition of Guttersnipes is the biggest update here. Between them, the Scab-Clan Berserker, and the Curse of the Pierced Hearts, this deck will (hopefully) inflict a lot of automatic damage that's difficult to prevent. Incinerate is a cheap upgrade from Lightning Strike; same CMC, but can now deal with regenerators. Electrickery replaces Rolling Temblor as a way to deal with tokens or lesser creatures at no risk to my own. I may end up sideboarding this and re-integrating a couple of either Mardu Scouts or Dragon Fodders into the mainboard, but I want to play this deck a few times as-is to see how well it works.
