Prossh and Tazri are the two best by far. Other decent options are Maelstrom Wander and Prime-Speaker Zegana.

Sidisi brood tyrant is also a good outlet for Food Chain. She has plenty of ways to tutor for the combo and has access to several other good game ending combos as well

Sorry to repeat myself, but I feel like my comment got buried, and I think the point stands:

I feel like the description of T3 commanders as "somewhat weak" is a bit misleading, as relative to the majority of potential commanders (451 below them and 59 above), they are still quite good, and can do well when optimized. In terms of wording, it feels like a sizable jump from T2 being "quite strong" to T3 being "somewhat weak". I think that if T3 is the middle tier, the wording should reflect that it's a sort of middle-ground. Or as someone recently said, representative of both median and mode.

I can't believe I never noticed this, but Selvala, Heart of the Wilds is beyond broken in Omnath, Locus of Mana, especially with untap effects and draw cards equal to the highest power among your creatures. With Eldritch Evolution also entering the mix I think Omnath is once again worthy of weak tier 2 status. Selvala may also be tier 2 as well. She is far better than I originally thought as a general.

that's a cute interaction, a cheaper doubling cube that draws you card is pretty noice. also i thought eldritch evo was to hand. straight wow.

I did a major overhaul of my Edric, Spymaster of Trest list. If anyone (NarejED, ShaperSavant, Etc.) wants to take my list and turn it into something worthy of being listed on this page you have my full permission. I really couldn't care less about self promotion. I just want SOMEONE to make the T1 Edric deck we are missing.

MoxProxy, you saw mine right? I did use your list as a base. Reposting:

Hotcake_Gotsyrup: Since she is creature she can be paired with omnath nearly every game in the first few turns. There are also about 7 or 8 good cards that untap creatures creature effects and 5 or so good Life's Legacy effects that pretty much draw you into a game winning combo by turn 3-5 most games. It is mono green yes, but she is to omnath what prophet of kruphix was to momir vig.

Fun chain:

Have Omnath and Slevala out, float 5 green and double to 8, cast EE sacing Omnath and tutor out Seedborn Muse, use the 5 left over to recast Omnath, pass turn and start going absolutely crazy during your opponent's upkeeps.

Actually you'd go to 9 because of Omnath base P/T, but same difference.

I have a list I have been working on with omnath that I will post later this week you all can see to determine whether or not omnath should be moved up or not.

I initially disagree with the Omnath T2 status; fetching Selvala with Omnath as general is just as easy a fetching Omnath with Selvala as general, and Selvala has far better infinites (including an infinite consisting entirely of tutorable creatures: Great Oak Guardian, Temur Sabertooth, herself). She also has the standard Staff/Mantle combos.

Once you post your exact list I can see how close I am, but competitive Selvala goes off a lot more consistently than competitive Omnath tutor into Selvala (as Selvala has several other infinites and ways to make mana).

Most of the T3 mono-green generals (Selvala, Omnath, Titania, Freyalise, Ezuri1) all have builds that lead to kills by T3-T5. This alone shouldn't be the factor for going up in tiers.

Mishra should be a Tier 6, totally worthless ability in EDH.

Slivortal, Selvala, Heart of the Wilds, Great Oak Guardian, and Temur Sabertooth is only infinite once one of your creatures has a power of 9 or more. Kicking that off with just those three in the first few turns of the game is actually kind of difficult.

I'm having problems seeing how these example lists are optimized with such a small land base after the Mulligan change.

Is it just aggressive mulligans? I mean, 30 lands seems pretty low to me. I would love to cut lands out for better cards but I'm just not seeing how these decks are hitting their land drops, especially to go off by T3.

September 28, 2016 9:45 p.m.

sonnet666 says... #24

Certain commanders can get away with 30 lands even after the mull change.

Brago, Edric, Yisan, Leo... Really it's any commander that has high levels of card advantage, a low curve, and a lot of cheap ramp. It just so happens that most of those commanders are in the top tiers since those are really effective qualities to have in a commander.

If your strategy never needs you to get past your fifth mana source, you can worry a lot less about hitting all of your land drops for the entire game.

Some of the lists obviously just haven't been updated and could use a few more lands, but most of the top tier commanders aren't likely to get screwed even with the change.

Slivortal: I disagree with your assessment of omnath vs selvala as generals. I'm of the opinion that omnath is the stronger of the two.

While selvala is a combo piece and can combo off with cards like Staff of Domination she is nothing special for mono green. There are plenty of other cards that combo in the same way selvala does (Satyr Wayfinder, Karametra's Acolyte, Argothian Elder, Priest of Titania, Elvish Archdruid, Wirewood Channeler) so having this effect in the command zone is not really that amazing in and of itself.

Producing stupid amounts of mana is what mono green does well on its own. What it cannot always do is effectively use that mana. Selvala is an upgrade over Ezuri and azusa in this regard, but not by much. Her draw ability is janky as hell and really isn't viable for cEDH. The attempts I have seen on the cEDH subreddit have tried to force some pretty horrifyingly bad cards into her 99 (i.e Primal Forcemage & Lupine Prototype) just so she does not run out of gas by turn 3 or 4 or reward opponents.

Omnath on the other hand is one of a kind in mono green. He stores mana for future use to help ensure no mana gets wasted. He also combos with several powerful draw spells: Garruk, Primal Hunter, Life's Legacy, Momentous Fall, Greater Good, and Soul's Majesty that essentially function like Ad Nauseam and can easily be chained to draw and play your entire deck in one epic turn.

Selvala may be faster (at times) but her lack of good card draw makes her FAR less consistent. Consistency is why Yisan is tier 1 (that and his ability is uncounterable and instant speed) not raw speed as Seton, Krosan Protector is probably faster. Omnath is less consistent than Yisan but he has a big advantage over the rest of the field with his ability to dig deeper into his deck than anyone else.

Alright so here is the decklist. The deck wins most games by drawing the majority of my deck and killing the table with a massive Ezuri Overrun or by machine gunning down all opponents creatures with Ulvenwald Tracker and then killing evryone instantly with Shaman of Forgotten Ways. Its not perfect, but it is close to what it will eventually become.
