GAAIV can run humility because the general is a stax piece, not a win con, and azorius does have any other preferred compact creature-based combos as win cons. So slamming humility and losing access to arbiter is a lot better than losing access to brago, or yidris, or whoever. Typical wincons are helm+rip , monolith combo + USG, future top.

I definitely disagree about the Brago-Arbiter bit. Having played and played against both, I've never once felt that Brago did not have a significant power advantage over GAAIV. The latter lacks a solid win condition (Brago has Strionic Resonator), doesn't break parity nearly as effectively, and generates less value when built around. Arbiter is slightly more effective against certain spell-slinger decks, true, but he has a worse matchup against midrange decks and other builds that struggle more with tap/untap effects like Stasis. Arbiter makes a nice hatebear in a lot of decks, Brago included, but as a commander, he just doesn't have the all around advantages Brago does.

Gaddock Teeg is hatebears, and plays entirely differently than the other G/W commanders in T2. Moving him down would be a detriment to the list.

I could get behind Zada and Dralnu in T3.

I will now retreat back into finals week induced T/O hibernation.

Other GW decks focus on hatebears as their primary interaction-- it's really all GW has to combat faster decks. Captain Sisay is a hatebears deck at its heart; Saffi is the most all-in GW combo deck but it's still usually running things like Linvala and Teeg; same goes for GW Selvala, which is a aggro elfball deck. The GW interaction package is pretty set in stone and a lot of it involves hatebears. So I'm not really convinced Gaddock Teeg is still tier 2. You can still get Teeg out by t3 in Sisay if you're playing good ramp and you need Teeg, but Sisay is just way better against a wide areay of threats.

As a note, the only board wipes I'm seeing in my competitive meta outside of WU stax decks are Cyclonic Rift and Toxic Deluge, and that was before I even started shifting more toward Sisay and Karador as my regular go-to commanders. If I search my library for a creature with Eladamri's Call I'm usually going to opt for Sanctum Prelate over Teeg if that's an effect I need. So why would I play him as a commander?

I'm becoming increasingly fascinated with both Storm and Doomsday in EDH. Are there any commanders that can reasonably run a storm strategy with Doomsday as an alternative wincon or would that clog the deck up too much?

YamiMajinEsper storm (typically headed by zur) and grixis storm (typically headed by Jeleva) both use Doomsday and are consensus Tier 1 decks. Lists are well established and should be easy to find (probably in the Tier 1 lists shown in this post).

I, for one, am torn on the Brago/GAIV front. I see arguments on both sides.

you don't have a Yidris tier 1

YamiMajin tw0handt0uch I would also say that Sydri, Galvanic Genius is a great esper storm deck with DD backup. I'm a little biased since I've built a list but I'm pretty sure it's in tier 2 somewhere. Here is my list Sydri life storm if you want to take a look.

Hi,I think you forgot about Gisa, Ghoulcaller. Also, will you add a link for a cEDH deck with Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder?

By the way, you did a good work. Thanks!

Ghoulcaller Gisa is in Tier 4.

Thanks! I was searching for "Gisa" and not "Ghoulcaller" at the first place

yes please add a Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder deck

NarejED says... #14

I made a list for Yidris a while back when he was first spoiled to try to examine his power level. Link.

ShaperSavant also has a list for Yidris in a similar grain (nearly identical decklist). Link. The issue with both is that they lack descriptions/primers. I could potentially do a short writeup for my list next week, but I would prefer if someone else with more personal experience with the commander were to come forward with a list and suitable deck breakdown. There are already far too many decks of mine linked on here, many of which are outdated since I haven't had time to devote to MtG this semester.

Speaking of which, @thegigibeast, could you replace the Prossh list linked in the description with angelforge's deck? It's better, plus he's more knowledgeable on the commander, and updates his list more often than I do. Here's a link to his deck: Food Chain prossh

Do you think you could make a budget Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder under $350?

December 12, 2016 2:23 a.m.

NarejED says... #16

I could try, but budget storm decks rarely perform well. Budget 4C storm decks will fair far worse, as such decks requires a 1500$+ land base to function properly. You lose most of your win conditions, speed, and resiliency going on anything resembling a tight budget. The entire concept of Yidris would have to be reworked. At that point you might be better off going the Hypergenesis combo route.

NarejED I've saw your list, I found it pretty interesting, but I wonder what you will put in the Doomsday pile and in what order?

December 12, 2016 7:28 a.m.

Zenaku17 says... #18

NarejED the reason i ask for a decent budget build is because the magic shop near me only does budget commander. so the deck can't go over $350 unfortunately. I want to do Yidris, Maelstrom Wielder really bad but maybe a budget General Tazri would be better? I want a tier 1 commander that can be competitive.

December 12, 2016 11:21 a.m.

um im pretty sure you can go with a budget yisan list as most of the pricy cards are accelerants. Could be wrong but im pretty sure you can at least match some tier 2 lists despite the cuts.

December 12, 2016 11:32 a.m.

NarejED says... #20

Budget Tazri would definitely be better. In case you didn't know, Shaper already made both a 250 and 420 budget FCT deck.

Generally the best options for budget commanders are Yisan, the Wanderer Bard and Edric, Spymaster of Trest though. Both lose very little power going from $500 decks to no-budget builds. In fact, Edric, can still function quite well at $50.

Arvail says... #21

Hmmm... Going back to the discussion about GAAIV a while back, I think what's holding him back is access to any seriously good win cons. His combos are all rather mana intensive or have lackluster pieces. If that were to be solved with new prints, he'd probably be worthy of T1 easily.

NarejED do you have links to a budget Yisan, the Wanderer Bard and Edric, Spymaster of Trest and which one do you think is better?

ANT Sidisi can also be done super easily on a $100 budget, but it's very single-focused and repetitive.
