Woops, cut off my own comment. Meant to say there seems to be a flood of people disagreeing with GAAIV being there but I don't think it's that straightforwars

Also, @Watason723 I find it odd that you consider Tazri to not be tier 1 but list Prossh as one of the best. While Prossh has a couple advantages, Tazri's FC combo is generally much easier to assemble and requires running fewer dead cards in your deck. Not to mention Tazri gets access to blue. As for Animar being #1 on your list (not sure if it's deliberately ordered), that's pretty interesting because most of us would probably agree that Animar is near the bottom of tier 1.

I think the tier list is pretty close to good as it is. Except for that I'm not sure why Bruna was moved up from tier 3 to tier 2; Bruna seems more "top of tier 3" than "bottom of tier 2." She can steal games if she lasts a turn then you hit Cataclysm, but only if there's another deck doing most of the heavy lifting to keep faster decks at bay.

@p0megranates: Bruna, Light of Alabaster was literally just moved from tier 2 to tier 3 the other day. Your last paragraph doesn't make any sense.

@Watason723: Those are some interesting thoughts. For the most part they're at odds with the popular opinions. IE, Tazri is slightly better than Prossh due to a lower combo cost and better color identity. Animar, Derevi, and Tasigur are all at or near the bottom of Tier 1 currently, with Ancestral/Imperial Animar simply not performing up to snuff any more, Derevi Stax running into numerous issues, and Tasigur rendered nearly obsolete by the printing of the almost strictly better Thrasios, Triton Hero. It would be great if you could explain your reasoning behind that short list at the bottom of your last common.

I wasn't paying close attention to the list changes, woops. Just recalled it was t2 last time I looked at it.

enpc I made the mistake of just looking at the commander, as the deck isn't a pure sliver tribal deck, my b. I still think being able to just tutor the queen or ANY sliver is stronger than 2 mana 1/1 sliver tokens

In a sliver tribal deck you would be correct, Sliver Overlord is way better. But the combo deck that Sliver Queen goes in doesn't care about other slivers. Because of that it makes Overlord pointless in the deck, it would be far more efficient to just have your commander as the combo piece instead of trying to tutor it out and hoping it doesn't eat removal as you can't just cast it again.

So I recently playtested Arcum with Paradox Engine and it is broken as hell. https://www.reddit.com/r/CompetitiveEDH/comments/5n7d3l/paradox_arcum_beyond_broken/

I strongly agree with Lilbrudder. The different Thrasios lists he's got are really good.

As for the whole debate on GAAIV, I still have my issues with him as he doesn't have access to an easy combo, but he's damn well positioned vs the rest of the top tier picks. One thing I don't understand is that for almost every GAAIV list I see, no one's running Idyllic Tutor. If Humility is such an awesome card and you run both Power Artifact and Rest in Peace as a combo pieces, why does no one run it? Your only way to tutor for those pieces is Enlightened Tutor or Muddle the Mixture. I get that 3 mana sorcery speed for a highly limited selection of cards isn't great, but you'd think it would warrant consideration. Still, nothing based on lists I've seen.

GAAIV players, plzerino explain.

I am submitting this to be our Teysa, Orzhov Scion Tier 3 list: Teysa's Darkest Hour. Please consider bumping her to tier 2, she is a strong commander.

With the growing list of generals and the talk of upper or lower tier x or borderline tier x and y commanders, could we possibly split up tiers 1-3 to add some more specificity into 1, 1.5, 2, 2.5, and 3?

January 11, 2017 2:45 a.m.

SomeDipshit says... #18

NO THERE WILL BE ONLY 5 TIERS AND THAT IS FINAL.

We have discussed the fact that there is no clustering in use here. We don't know the optimal cluster number, we don't know what features or attributes to use to qualify commanders, and we don't know how this information inter-relates with archetype, deck construction, meta, etc. So, we have a lot of assumptions and methods to work through before we try to address the cluster count or any other structural issue for the list. Suffice to say, the tiers that we have here follow the descriptions fairly well, and we have re-litigated various structural issues numerous times.

We should probably add this to the FAQ... do we have a FAQ?

I will suggest my Azami list again Prepare Your Salami for the Azami, considering the current one hasn't been updated in over 2 months and runs lots of slow transmute tutors and hardly enough wizards. I'll also be done writing my primer soon.

Indeed, however the current tiers do work the best adding more would cloud everything things can be strong in their tier that doesn't mean we need tier 1.5 or 2.5, 1,2,3,4,5 are simple and easy to understand. I'm working on building a omptimized Zurgo Helmsmasher deck and could use so help building it so we can get a list on this deck.

January 11, 2017 11:19 a.m.

it would help better if you linked a list or prototype than just say it. Somehow can someone keep track of all deck updates that are needed (list changes, new decks, etc). Also if we could add in the description of the tiers, the average deck for the tier that it needs to keep up with in order to be promoted. Demotion might be harder but doable.

@Blackshadow415 Decklists are meant to represent the best that the commander has to offer regardless of budget and local playgroup social norms (e.g. MLD is perfectly fine). Your deck is missing a lot of things and is far too slow. You should take a look at the sort of lists that are featured before you continue optimizing. For the record, Zurgo is probably best as an MLD commander (stax with a beatdown finisher) and needs mana acceleration.
