enter image description here - I'm thinking Tier 4. The lifegain strategy seems cute with Fishbowl, by without blue, it would not be as consistent.

Edgar Markov was almost great, but he says when you cast. Otherwise he would have been the defacto nim death!antler commander.

Teferi's Protection in Ad Nauseum anything.

I'm disliking all of the vampire commanders though. They basically made sure there was no way to make Licia interesting, Edgar forces you to devote card slots to a meh tribe to have any effect, and Mathas can't be built into without hugging the table. 4, 3, and 4 most likely.

I'm Trying to Build a Brago Deck and I'm looking for any advice on how to structure it/what to go for. Any insight would be appreciated.

Essentially All the sac pirates, plenty of rocks, stax staples, strionic resonator and then standard staples for WU. Check the tier 1.5 lists and view the brago deck list provided there.

For context:
enter image description here - Tier 3. Similar-ish to Queen Marchesa. Makes tokens, could be good for a mediocre Vampire Stax deck.

enter image description here - Tier 4. Not as bad as Ludevic, since you will get a card no matter what, instead of rewarding opponents for hurting themselves. It requires your opponents to run creatures, is slow, and gives opponents free cards (though they still have to work for it if they want the cards immediately).

The main wizard commander was spoiled/leaked. It was not official, so I will be just saying this much. Seems meh on first look, but funky things can happen. Tentative Tier 3, pending discussion.

Cool. Ramos and Taigam have been officially spoiled!

enter image description here - My initial thought way back when was Tier 4, but people brewed enough that Tier 3, possibly 2.5 after refinement.

enter image description here - Tier 2.5, though we never concluded what the best strategy would be. I think the main contenders were Approach and Fishbowl.

merrowMania I feel that Ramos is at least tier 2.5 or higher. Taigam seems cool.

merrowMania, Actually, I've been thinking for a while now that Ramos is probably going to end up in tier 1, if only for the fact that he's a placeholder for 5C Storm that actually builds into the archetype.

Inalla seems pretty good to me. At the very least she's like a Grixis Riku of Two Reflections for wizards, and her last ability could be an outlet for Intruder Alarm combos.

I'll be working on a competitive Inalla build once the full Commander set has been spoiled. As someone who loves Grixis and wizards I am pretty much obligated to build her.

sonnet666 - Touche. I wasn't thinking of how good Ramos would be as placeholder, just as a combo piece.

There's also the multiple regrowth combos with Ramos that's silly.

I also like that his power can get indeterminately high, so you can get big draws off of him mid storm with Life's Legacy or Greater Good.

Not to mention his colorless casting cost means you can be really flexible with how you want to build the landbase.

Just putting it out there that with Ramos, Jund Charm becomes a 3 mana input, 10 mana output ritual. Also has some good functionality oustide of that too.

Mairsil has some cool flavor point going for his design. It works well for what I remember of his character in the Ice Age novel. He's just a really slow and inefficient Necrotic Ooze though, isn't he? He'd be a fun challenge to try to combo off with, but I don't think he's particularly high tier.

I suspect that I'll be seeing that Vindictive Lich popping up in bunch of Pub-stomp style Meren decks.

I suppose U does have Ghostly Flicker... cast Mairsil, flicker him, now you have 2 activated abilities from hand or grave, GG?

August 10, 2017 11:32 a.m.

SaberTech says... #19

There's Essence Flux too. And clone spells copying Mairsil would also work to get the exile triggers, even if you have to sac the clones as a state-based effect. Phantasmal Image and Phyrexian Metamorph are probably the best inclusions for that.

I'd say that it's on par with nooze cause nooze is grave only but requires no additional input. However it can't pull from your hand so there's an edge for Mairsil there but he requires 2 casts or a cast and a flicker.

Mirror-Mad Phantasm allows Mairsil, the Pretender to mil your entire deck. Do with that what you want.

How exactly does Mairsil's second ability work? Shambling Skeleton is an activated ability, but from the graveyard. Each new time he is put into play, he resets? So you can activate Shambling's ability an infinite number of times, if you had something that sacced for 2 mana, creating infinite dies/etb triggers. Something just doesn't feel right here though. I don't know what action causes the second clause to reset, and if it works in other zones, which it sounds like is true.

August 10, 2017 12:29 p.m.

Marisol + Havengul Lich + Mana Echoes with Crosis's Attendant exiled under mari = infinite casts and etbs. Any additional wizards causes infinite colorless mana. Marisol with Arcanis the Omnipotent and Horseshoe Crab is u draw 3 every turn. Most of the blue kraj interactions work with him. Cool dude, probably my next deck t3

Went to judge chat, got this reply for now: Mairsil can only use those abilities if he is on the battlefield, and you can use them once for each instance he comes back into the battlefield, if he leaves and comes back in the same turn. I am not 100% sure on the first part though, the judge said it might be subject to change when they come out with the official rules for them.
