Hi merrowMania

I really like your short estimations on a new commander and its possible tier level. I can't seem to find the estimate for the commanders in the esper deck and was wondering if you made an estimate on these?

Yet all decks win with a combo, so aren't all decks combo?

July 28, 2018 9:17 p.m.

SynergyBuild says... #6

A "combo" deck a deck based with a gameplan on the combo, and with the minimum interaction required to protect it. Control and Stax is trying to stop the opponents first and foremost, and then win with combo, at least that is the general consensus.

Dankey says... #7

A "combo" is whem you combine a lightning bolt and a mountain. Do that throughout your deck and you got a combo

Very curious to see where the commanders from Dominaria and Battlebond end up. Any idea when an update will add them to the list?

Dankey, nah, you mean a Hornet Sting and a Forest, obviously!

What if you would remove the 1.5 and 2.5 joke? I mean it is super vague and a biased list to some extent already and it would make more sense to people as you will get less QQ and crybabies for the in-between tiers... These don't even exist if you would have proper data as well but hey YOU DON'T...

Or make it even vaguer and more stupid and add a 1.25 and a 1.75 tier !!!!!!!!!

Also, I'm undefeated in life TranscendingAll, so I'm in tier 0... fite me naked pleb... TEIR 1 ARCUM MEMES INC!

n0bunga it's not easy to suggest another win con that isn't what I personally think is the best way to go...but one way would be to go full into the commander combo and focus on that. Obviously not as warrior tribal but still with the infinite combat as the plan A, with stax and stuff. This would put the deck back at least 2 turns in speed though because on average the commander kills happen on t4 and hulk accelerates the possible kills to t2.

I have considered Jeskai Ascendancy too at some point but I wanted to play it as a looting engine and to trigger the combat combo. Eventually I found that it's not reasonable for that purpose...playing it as the main plan of the deck didn't even occur to me because it felt too spell based

Yay another troll. I much for trying to have a constructive conversation regarding the list. No wonder nothing gets accomplished on here.

two idiots who think they know CEDH is all I see... it would be better a list like this got removed so they don't have to deal with folks like you... anyway best of luck with the trolling!!! blocked both of you...

Yeah... Kiyomei, you are the peak of knowledge when it comes to trolling. Your master plan involved going on my own deck, posting "Delete this Garbage list.", and immediately blocking me, to prevent further interaction, you are so impressively salty and insecure you couldn't handle repercussion from trolling, and then claim we, two people who were simply giving out well-thought out and balanced dialogue on our personal opinions, were both idiots, and trolls.

You sir, are comedy gold!

Hey, what tier would a Yuriko turns actually be?

Temporal Trespass and Commit are really good with Yuriko

Odysseus_97 - Whoops, looks like I never actually posted it! It has been sitting in the comment prep section of this page :P

enter image description here - T3-4. First ability can be used to dig into a Doomsday pile. Otherwise, I am having trouble finding Tinker-like reasons for the pseudo-Brainstorm ability to be relevant. The second ability is great with Gilded Drake and normal EtB abilities, so something cool can probably happen there. The ult is garbage. Anything that cares about seating is WAY too uncertain to matter.

enter image description here - T3. A more consistent way to dig into a Doomsday pile. Hell, you can actually CAST a Gush from the top of the library. Else, set up Timetwister loops with it. At 5 mana, Yennett can be cast and do work without being combo fodder. If a good build come out, I can see it being a T2.5 deck.

enter image description here - T3. More Doomsday fodder. Being able to loot every turn is great, especially when doing so feeds into looting more. You don't need to run many, if any, zombies to make Varina worthwhile.

enter image description here - T2.5. Doomsday. People have been toying with Nexus of Fate/Putrid Imp loops off of Doomsday, since Yuriko doubles as the kill for your pile. Being able to ignore the command tax is also absurdly strong (see Derevi).

I guess having a blue-black deck with the theme of "top of deck matters" makes for decent Doomsday commanders. If good decks are brewed, I could see any of these rising to as high as Tier 2.

Yuriko does act as self-inclusive win con which edric does not. I also find that black's tutors and card advantage means it isnt directly worse than edric.

Yes edric has better creatures in its colors, but being enemy colors gives it worse land options, and the fact that it draws the opponents cards can be bad in a matchup against animar or any other creature deck.

The other upside with Yuriko is commander ninjustu, which gives you an out to constant removal, and an out to sorcery speed removal. Obviously it isn't strictly better or anything, it simply is different.

I would argue tier 2 any day.

July 29, 2018 1:11 p.m.

I agree with T2.

I wanted to build a Muldrotha, the grave tide, but I realize you dont have it ranked yet. In what tier category should muldrotha be placed?

July 29, 2018 3:26 p.m.

I might argue with the aminatou one preemptively. yeah sure doomsday is one way to look at things but ever since draw-go has found its control niche, i feel like aminatou can helm a control shell as well. legacy miracles has been looking to try and slot this in from what ive heard so maybe a pseudo miracles setup would work there as well. id say 2.5-3 over 3-4 for now but ma be preempting

Is Muldrotha on this list?

Yuriko seems comparable to Edric and how he tries to win. I can see her as a solid tier 2 commander.

kyuuri117 says... #24

I personally don't see how Yuriko is at all comparable to Edric. The limited amount of Ninja's / Changelings we have in magic are, well, awful. Which means the only reliable source of card draw you're going to get in the deck is the one card you draw from Yuriko's trigger. The life loss part is completely irreverent. Compared to Edric where you're drawing at worst 3-4 cards a turn, this just seems poor.

Sure, you get black. Which means you've got Lab man / demonic consulation, etc. etc. Or doomsday piles, whatever. But the labman / doomsday stuff seems to be very at odds with shoving 30 one drop creatures into a deck with a bunch of disruption.

Now i'm not saying the card is bad, I don't think she is. But I don't think you want to focus on an Edric like strategy with her. Trying to set up doomsday, or labman/consultation while using the general as a value engine like Tymna is just seems better.

Aside from that, what the hell is going on in this thread? The magic archtypes are Aggro, Midrange, Control and Combo. Control is not just land/go, you can also play tapout control which is what Stax is. And just like Control can be broken down into land go / stax, Combo can be broken into Linear (hyper aggressive like most cEDH decks.. say Gitrog or Flash Hulk), Critical Mass (elfball/Edric), and Finisher (decks that are technically "combo" decks because they win with a combo, but get there much slower like Teferi.) Aggro can be broken down into Linear (Edric) or Hybrid (Blood Pod). They all bleed into each other, there aren't cookie cutter definitions for them. There might have been fifteen years ago, but there aren't now.

muldrotha feels like a tier 3 but can prob do some work. ive tried it as a lantern control list but hd/hulk may be faster. The problem with muldy is that the mana cost is quite steep. might bump to t2.5 but id say hes quite safe around there.
