He was some weird interaction with certain enchantments. I forgot the cards name, but one of them counters spells everyone plays unless they pay two more mana. Mishra, Artificer Prodigy negates that for you. There are some chaos cards he messes around with too, where he still benefits from them. I'm sorry I don't know the cards name. Hope someone can chime in. Also if I'm wrong on his placement reasons, someone please correct me.

Mishra and Possibility Storm in play. Sol Ring in hand.
Cast Sol Ring. Both Mishra and Possibility Storm trigger. Place Mishra's trigger on first, then Possibility Storm's trigger on top.
Possibility Storm's trigger resolves, putting Sol Ring on bottom. You get a free artifact through Possibility Storm. Mishra's trigger resolves, finding Sol Ring.
You just got a free artifact as well as Sol Ring. Everyone else has to cope with Possibility Storm.

That BUG commander is a powerhouse. What the hell was WOTC thinking?!?! Timetwister, Windfall, Jace's Archivist, and even Day's Undoing put you so far ahead on card advantage that you pretty much will win every game you resolve them. Oh andnif tjey kill him you draw a card... If hes not tier 1 immediately then hes damn close. Op color wedge, efficiently costed with an ability to crush all opponents simultaneously while filling your hand to 7. I am horrified and elated all at once

That some powerful interaction, but that's only four cards. And it's not like those cards win you the game. I like where your head is at, but unless more cards along those lines pop up, can he really be that strong?

BUG has access to like 15 good-ish tutors and the best ramp. It is not unreasonable for this interaction to happen consistently by turn 3. Plus all 4 cards are 3cc so transmuste anyone? That should allow him to combo off on turn 4-5 with almost no resistance and counterspell backup. BUG really needs very little from its commander to be tier 2 and he is a great fallback option, that shuts down all opponents draw engines and punishes opponents who target you. He would be playable at 4-5 cc, at 3cc hes insane. I honestly can see him getting banned.

Yeah, the new BUG commander is pretty sexy. I don't know about Tier 1, but between Timetwister, Time Spiral, Windfall, Day's Undoing, Whispering Madness, Dark Deal, Jace's Archivist, Wheel and Deal, Diminishing Returns, and Time Reversal, he has plenty of tools for keeping his opponents out of the game. Tier 2 at minimum.

I had some time today so I made a Leovold deck for fun. It is an Ad Nauseam Doomsday 0% basic Hermit Druid deck that uses Leovold to clear the way for combos. Since the deck has so many tutors I didnt see the need for all the wheels, but perhaps Ill add more. Any thoughts on how to more thoroughly break this guy?

Yeah definitely seems most appropriate for Doomsday (or even storm...?) -- Drain everyone's hand of answers with a wheel, use the wheel to pick up pieces and defense, then combo the fuck out.

Marchesa from the new Conspiracy set is Tier 3 or 4 IMO. Free card with no strings attached is a good deal, but her Assassin spawning ability isn't great since you have to take damage & give up a free card for it. Not too different from Teysa, Envoy of Ghosts in that she can kill 1 creature for each time you take damage & scare opponents from attacking, but Teysa's just not good.
Leovold looks like solid tier 2 material though-preventing card draw hobbles control & combo decks, and the option to draw a card punishes removal/burn. 3/3 for 3 is a decent body too, and Sultai is a great wedge in general.

I'd qualify Leovold as tier 1, maybe 0.5.
My reasonings:
Perfect lockout. Anvil of Bogardan is an example. Seedborn Muse access with Jace's Archivist. Can go the long game and doubling season with a certain moon mage to instantly ultimate to recycle cards I use over and over... Wheel and Deal on every draw step for the win every time.
Brutal... Vicious... Nasty... ramp.. draw... tutors. can combo fast or lockout.

http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/developing-competitive-sbt-blitzkrieg-copy-2/ is a list I just saw, I put him at tier 1-2 personally. (again not my list but thought it was well put together)

@ RandomGenesis I just looked at that list and I want to cry. Zedruu is my favorite general because he's so open ended but that list is so focused on such a cruel and powerful thing..making sure your opponent's don't get to do much. I mean I play prison Zedruu and that Trest list makes me wince.

I hate to say it, but I think that Leo will get banned very quickly by the Rules Committee.

He will be banned in large part due to an outcry from casual players. Just imagine someone bringing him to a table of flying hippos. He is soo much worse than Prophet of Kruphix and they somehow couldn't find a solution to that card.

Why do you think he will get banned? He may be good but what makes him better than narset or zur
August 18, 2016 9:07 a.m.
Not sure if you realize this but most casual players use only 0-5 kill spells. Combine that with a plethora of enters the battlefield tapped lands and a lack of good filtering. What this means is unless one of those players draws a kill spell in their first 10 cards, and drew just the right basics, the Leo player can do whatever they want. The Leo player untaps, casts Mystical Tutor or Vampiric Tutor, gets Windfall, and proceeds to take every card out of the casual players' hands.
People who actually play for board wipes or for across the board damage won't care at all though so theres that. If this new Leo guy sits across the table from me in a group game my friends will be glad I am also sitting there with board wipes. : )
One thing I will say is they should have given him two toughness..

Most people build generals the way in which they are most obviously applied (ex. Sidisi, Brood Tyrant and zombie tribal; Zedruu the Greathearted and pillowfort group hug). Leo is most obviously a fun killing d-bag that simultaneously puts the entire table in topdeck mode every game on turn 3-4 while filling his own hand with countermagic and more wheels if built somewhat competently. I sincerely hope I am wrong but I feel like Leo will get old REAL fast in casual circles. Rather than build responses into their decks (because that goes against the spirit of the format) they will hit the forums in droves. That and leo is such an unbelieveable pairing of color scheme, creature type, effects, and mana efficiency. Even a well prepared table will have serious issues stopping thier hands from being stripped away with all the regrowth and countermagic effects Leo has at his disposal. He will warp games and that is a no no
August 18, 2016 9:26 a.m.
I see this turning into another Prophet of Kruphix situation. Both warp games around them, and are "unfun" to play against. Both are in very good colors, and must be dealt with before they get out of hand. However, they both have little to no protection, and can be killed with a simple Swords to Plowshares or the like. However, since most casual decks don't run answers, they'll complain about them, and they'll end up getting banned, despite not being broken.
I don't know. Maybe Leo will turn out to be a stupidly broken commander that needs to be banned immediately. Maybe he'll be the next Mizzix, a commander that everyone goes crazy over and turns out to be tier 2-3 material. Hopefully the RC doesn't do some ridiculous "preemptive ban" because the card "looks unfun," before anyone gets to test. I personally will be building a Doomsday deck around him. I just hope that the Prophet banning doesn't get repeated.
August 18, 2016 10:55 a.m.
You guys bringing up the rules committee are being too optimistic. Let me remind you how effective they are by bringing up a short list of cards that they have elected not to ban that people can (and have) made arguments for banning.
This isn't even getting into legendary creatures. Derevi has been the best Stax general and one of the top 5 generals in the format basically since he was printed. He has been the most notorious general of the last 3 years, but the RC hasn't done shit about him. If he hasn't been banned yet, there's no way that Sultai Tiny Leader will be.
But hey, at least they banned Worldfire. Jhoira was just too good, am I right?

The major difference between Leo and Prophet is that prophet was essentially a Lighthouse Chronologist with 0 mana investment beyond the 5 to cast her.
Leo is powerful, don't get me wrong but taking a turn on each of your opponent's turns was what got Prophet banned.

at least we can be glad that he wasn't Grixis. . .amirite

@jhullak: He offers a surprising amount of utility in a stax shell. Cards like Nether Void and Possibility Storm allow him to get a huge amount of mileage off of his ability while ruining the plans of everyone else.
