Tier 5 description says Vanilla generals fit there. Why Isamaru is tier 4 instead?

Meren of Clan Nel Toth should be moved to tier one. With the right setup, a Meren deck can remove almost any permanent that goes on the board - Caustic Caterpillar for artifacts and enchantments, Fleshbag Marauder/Merciless Executioner and Grave Pact for creatures. Birthing Pod is also a nightmare to play against. Meren also keeps getting new staples, like Eldritch Evolution from EMN.

Meren is a great midrange general but midrange struggles in a world full of stax and combo. She is a decent stax general but in either capacity she is outclassed by a handful of generals in tier 2. She doesn't do enough to make the top tier

Another thing about her is that her ability CAN be a downside sometimes.

If you don't have enough exp you have to Regrowth when you'd rather leave it in the graveyard to Reanimate later.

Granted that Regrowth on a stick is powerful but I think we'd all agree that Reanimate is stronger.

Her ability not being a "may" has bitten me a few times when Craterhoof Behemoth or something is the only thing in my grave or when a Dredge creature is the only thing in my grave.

Hey all (and I do mean ALL), would it be up for consideration to make a separate list for Tiers 3 and 4 to remove clutter? Doing so would make the list MUCH easier to access. I understand the downsides of not having everything listed, potential upward movement, etc., but I thought I would put the idea out there to be ripped to shreds while I cry in a corner );

But if the idea is decent enough, the reason I am calling out to ALL is to get some sort of vote or whatever that thegigibeast could start via a comment after the next discussion reset.

Isamaru is a voltron general Who starts early. Personally I don't mind all the tiers on one page, I like large files, rather than a lot of small files. Also, how do make ferngully better.

Any thoughts as Rasputin Dreamweaver as a Stax commander? I'd like to try building a stax deck and try something a little different. I usually see him as a blink/combo/control deck, but I think he has some Stax potential. Obviously will be nowhere near as good as Derevi or Sydri, and I'm well aware running Torpor Orb could prove problematic.

My main thought is that he essentially acts as an extra mana rock that will continue producing mana as long as he stays untapped. This obviously doesn't lend itself to being a combo piece or lockdown in and of himself.

That said, would he at least still be around tier 3 with that in mind?

Why is Torpor Orb problematic?

if im not mistaken rasputin doesnt put the counters on after he has entered, but before.

if someone wanted to, i dunno make an avacyn gaurdian control deck . . . how would that hypothetical person go about that. not being able to take damage isnt really enough. . .

Then I stand corrected about torpor orb being a problem. I sort of assumed it was a triggered ETB ability, but the wording is different, even in the errata.

@trollslayer: Not really any optimized deck runs Smokestack. Meren and Alesha both ran it at one point or another, but inevitably cut it due to its high cost and low immediate impact.

define fun. to me numot mld is fun. but seriously zurgo helmsmasher, noyan dar, and rakdos lord of riots have been my most "fun" decks. they did wonky stuff and they gave me the all around feel of edh. instead of lists just go to edh rec and it will give you a guideline of what you want, and then you modify it from there
