What about Courser of Kruphix as a cheaper Oracle of Mul Daya ?

Ah just realized Courser of Kruphix is $5.99, might not meet the budget

I feel like some of the new archetype cards might be a good idea in here, particularly Archetype of Endurance , which I feel is an amazing EDH card, and very budget.

I feel like Archetype of Imagination is particularly, and Archetype of Aggression enables some aggro. Archetype of Endurance can be OK if you cheat it out (probably reanimation again), but in most situations i think i'd rather have Asceticism . I'm not really sure these qualify as power cards though, and they're certainly not staples. My problem with them though is that liek the theros gods, they don't do much to an empty board state.
I'm curious to see what Epoch has to say about the archetypes though.

Needs Prophet of Kruphix , Nezumi Graverobber , Relic of Progenitus , Shriekmaw , Walk the Aeons , Gruul Ragebeast , Sire Of Insanity , Damping Matrix , AEther Flash , Explore
Explore is much better since the sylvan primordial ban, because ravnica bouncelands are now much better.
Shriekmaw is efficient removal that has synergy in tons of decks like reanimator and blink.
Gruul ragebeast is the edh version of flametongue kavu and also turns all your guys into flametongue kavus. It may also strand your oracle of mul dayas and fauna shamans etc in your hand, but it is worth it.
Damping matrix, aether flash, and stony silence are super powerful and surprisingly broad hosers.
Extra turn spells like walk the aeons are just pure value as long as they resolve. Definitely good enough to make a budget list.
Prophet and sire are not good in every situation, but they have the kind of raw power a card needs to actually make you win in EDH.

Oh also jace beleren is a terrible card in EDH; basically every blue draw spell ever is better than him. They give you the cards immediately, guaranteed, whereas jace is only good when there is nothing to attack him. Concentrate , Deep Analysis , Mind Spring , Compulsive Research , Sift ... Honestly, even Divination is probably better.
And that reminds me that Mystic Remora absolutely needs to be here.

Also Stranglehold is over $20 now. This list is probably a lot of work to keep up huh

@Epochalyptik I've coded a little tool to compute the prices of this list with tcg. Do you want it? could help to remove the ones that went over the budget limit.
I can upload the list with prices, or send you the excel file.

Tooth and Nail at 6.50$ deserves a spot on this list as well

What about Witchbane Orb ? The first part of it may be useless, but giving yourself hexproof can delay, or even stymy the opponent until they deal with the card. Yes, there is artifact removal around, but with that and Darksteel Forge , you are nearly untargetable. Yes, it costs 4 + 9 mana to pull it off, but in EDH, mana ramping is easy.

I think this page would be much better if it just focused on budget play. I think the stuff that is legitimized by deck type needs a place to be listed too.
Blue:Dismiss into Dream + Opposition - Controlled board wipe that can hit indestuctibles
Guile - 6/6 for 6 CMC, can only be blocked by 3+ creatures and all your counters are spelljack
Sphinx of Magosi - 6/6 flying for 6CMC, can buff with counters and draw you cards
Parallel Thoughts - You tutor for seven cards and draw from that seven at random... If you have a card draw mechanic (Arcanis/Azami/others) this spell is golden.
Phyrexian Ingester - 7CMC, Exile target creature, put your own creature into play that will be 3 power and toughness bigger than whatever you just exiled. Combos with [Deadeye Navigator] to repeatedly exile creatures.
Control Magic , [Take Possession], [Volition Reins] - you're on a budget but the people you play will have fancy cards. Use their fancy cards against them. The latter two cost a bit but let you take any permanent. You can let a planeswalker get some loyalty counters before taking him and popping his ultimate.
Stormtide Leviathan - high CMC but big and has great utility, makes all lands islands and has island walk, great defensively because only creatures with islandwalk or flying can attack
Riptide Shapeshifter - 3/3 body that you can sacrifice to get one of your big creatures from your deck onto the field. Can summon up your Leviathan/Collossus/Serpent/Sphinx or any more obscure creature type. Blue tends to not run a ton of big creatures, getting the right big one when you need it helps.
Temporal Adept - Re-usable bounce of any permanent. Helps manage planeswalkers among other things. Has utility to bounce your own permanents to avoid destruction - a viable way to protect enchantments. He can give you re-use of ETB effects, though that can be a bit costly.
Beguiler of Wills - can repeatedly take creatures
Aphetto Alchemist - can untap any artifact or creature. In a format with so much sol ring or similar artifacts, he helps you cast a lot more. If you use creatures with tap abilities (very likely) he can give you a lot of utility.
Serendib Sorcerer - how do you stop what you can't block? You make it powerless. This guy taps to make anything 0/2. You can then likely kill it with a blocker or watch it harmlessly slide off your life total. Can provide certain blue decks with some needed combat ability.
Counterspell , Dissolve , Cancel , Deprive , Mana Leak , Dissipate , Foil - cost-effective, simple counterspells. Pack a few and use them wisely. You can't stop everything. Focus on what you can't handle resolving. There are others worth a go as well. (Rewind, Discombobulate....etc.)
Draining Whelk - a counter and a creature in one. High CMC for a counter so don't wait to use him, just on your opponent's next turn use him on the first spell you can... You stopped your opponent's move and added a (potentially powerful) creature.
Drift of Phantasms - a 0/5 flying blocker or a tutor for any 3 CMC you have in your deck. That includes a lot of possible counter spells, creatures, token makers, enchantments, or perhaps most importantly, mana producing artifacts (Basalt Monolith, Worn Powerstone....etc.).
Propaganda - stops token decks in their tracks. This makes Krenko mad. It now costs 2 mana for any creature to attack you. In multiplayer there will be less expensive targets.
Dissipation Field - bounces any attacker you let through.
Precognition - you know what your opponent draws or you keep them from something great and increase the chance of a dead draw.
Reality Acid - this enchants any permanent and gives it 3 more turns to live. It works on indestructible. What's more, if you have a way to bounce this enchantment back to your hand (tidespout tyrant, temporal adept, boomerang... Etc.) the enchanted permanent must be sacrificed immediately. This can be a big help with planeswalkers.
Rising Waters - this can slow the game down to a crawl. Extremely useful if your deck is designed to win mid-late game.
Walk the Aeons - an extra turn spell that you can buy back.
Infinite Reflection - playing a combat player with your pack of wizards? Turn all your wizards into his wurmcoil engine and swing away for damage, life gain and board clear. Or turn them all into your Stormtide Leviathan and island walk with 5 unblockable 8/8s. Or turn them all into Tidespout Tyrant and cast a spell to bounce all your opponents most precious permanents. Did your opponent just drop [terastadon]? Copy that and have each creature you play enter the field as terastadon. This spell can make a combat weak deck suddenly scary.
I may post more soon, but I think this would be a good place to just compile the $ cheap cards that can be used in a quality EDH deck and forget about the power card/staple.

Some of this stuff needs to be changed if it's supposed to be <$5. Like Consecrated Sphinx and Birthing Pod

Creatures on there about $8 or more:
Consecrated Sphinx
Craterhoof Behemoth
Eight-and-a-Half-Tails
Elvish Piper
Fauna Shaman
Jin-Gitaxias, Core Augur
Magus of the Moon
Mikaeus, the Unhallowed
Oracle of Mul Daya

Baleful Strix . 1/1 Flyer with Deathtouch with a cantrip. It's a pretty solid card for two mana
Dimir Doppelganger , reusable graveyard hating Clone is well worth the money if you ask me.
Ogre Battledriver is a staple for many creature heavy decks I've seen.
Phyrexian Ingester a cheaper Duplicant
Price of Progress belongs in every mono red deck.
Reiterate commonly used in many U/R spellbased deck as a mana sink
Aurelia's Fury , spot removal and a silence in one spell.
Wall of Denial , used in many U/W pillow fort decks due to it being a huge flying blocker that's pretty hard to remove.
Fog Bank another pillowfort staple creature.

Please remember to check that the card you're suggesting is under $10 and is not already in the list.

Thank you for taking the time to put these together. It's extremely helpful for an EDH newb trying to build on a budget like me. +1

Scourge of the Throne ? I've seen it played a lot recently, and it seems like what every red edh deck wants to do (besides grixis). In particular its insane when people want do perform an "alpha strike" or to kill one more players in one turn with a huge combat. Would go great in goblin decks, or Scion of the Ur-Dragon decks, or really any red deck that can abuse the extra combat step. Aurelia, the Warleader in particular has already proven a staple of the format. Is it as good? no but it fits in more decks.

Krosan Verge ? Rith's Charm ? Eternal Dragon ? Qasali Pridemage ? Just a few cards I can think of off the top of my head I would consider budget friendly useful cards.

I would HIGHLY recommend putting Dryad Arbor on the list. I never run a green EDH deck that doesn't run her and Green Sun's Zenith . Not to mention you can get Dryad Arbor s for like $5 online.

Nice list. Useful for the EDH cube I am attempting to construct.
Also, Kokoryoma, I would have to disagree with you on that one. Dryad Arbor works in some decks, but I find that it just ends up getting caught in the board-sweep crossfire more often than not. Not worth a few turns of ramp IMO.
