Intro to LRK:
What is Little Rich Kids?
I thought up of LRK while I was building starter decks for my friends to get them hooked on Magic. Originally, I gave them 30 cards composed of 13 lands and 17 spells with varying rarities with some decks having no rares to as much as having 5 rares. Our problem was that our group wasn't as keen on spending or had the time to play; so we decided to make a small format which is thus:
A 30 card deck with 13 lands with 16 spells and 1 Rich Kid (it may or may not be a Legendary Creature) so to speak. The 16 spells are composed of 4 additional Rares, 12 Uncommons and/or Commons.
A mildly competitive, quick Magic fix.
The 4 additional Rares cannot be copies of your Rich Kid but can be creatures. The 12 Uncommons and/or Commons can be as how you like it and, obviously, must complement your Rich Kid i.e. in your Rich Kid's Colors.
The 13 Lands can only be composed of Common and Uncommon Lands.
The Banned/Restricted List
The banned/restricted cards in this format follow those that are banned/restricted in Modern as the format follows the Modern Format in deck building. These cards are restricted to 1 per deck.
Tome Scour
Thought Scour
Breaking
Glimpse the Unthinkable
Mind Funeral
Hedron Crab
Mind Grind
Traumatize
Archive Trap
Sands of Delirium
Increasing Confusion
Nemesis of Reason
Szadek, Lord of Secrets
Mind Sculpt
Psychic Spiral
All of the additional banned cards are Mill type since they are very broken in such a small format i.e. 2 Tome Scours in your opening hand is enough to win the game altogether.
Playing LRK
Mulligans aren't free, drawing one less per new hand. You are also only allowed to mulligan to 4. Your Rich Kid is shuffled with the deck and does not follow the commander form. Players have 20 life with the game being between 2 players only.
That's mostly it for now! Will update the banlist and new rules as we go. Hope you guys enjoy our format!
The above deck is a sample of what I am using recently.
