I'm also building a loampox deck. Confused why you aren't playing Crucible of Worlds.

whats the point in running crucible?

Recurring Fetches or Ghost Quarters and Tec Edge. Most pox lists run 1-2.

pox lists, maybe. but this loampox, there is no need for crucible as it already has Life from the Loam. thanks for suggesting anyway!

Could Molten Vortex do a better job than Flame Jab? It's less red-heavy than Seismic Assault.

GEOforce20 says... #6

Hey Deruvid thanks for commenting

I dont run vortex just because it doesnt have any usr if it gets milled. I might order some tho and test them, they definately have potential.

Deruvid says... #7

The milling contingency does make a lot of sense. Also that it takes a mana just to get it down before you can start using it. 2 damage makes a lot of difference tho. With as much dredging as it looks like this deck does, it may not be worth it.

Cool deck design tho. The Vengeful Pharaoh interaction particularly amuses me :)

Have you considered an Urborg, Tomb of Yawgmoth? Will help smooth things out with your tec edges/ghost qs not producing coloured mana in a deck that seems very black mana hungry

January 28, 2016 6:54 a.m.

GEOforce20 says... #9

Mahna I have considered urborg but I really cant find something to take out. I might be able to cut a lily foothills or swamp, but I doubt that I will need it enough to cut one of those cards. I will definitely have to buy some and playtest tho. thanks for commenting!

Mahna says... #10

GEOforce20 Personally I would drop a swamp and the stomping ground, you only have 2 fetches that can get swamps and it is very very unlikely they will both be fetching swamps so one swamp here would be fine, also looking at the cards you have and the casting need for multiple black on quite a few cards means that I can't see the need to ever choose stomping ground over Tomb/Crypt

Give it a try and see what you think

i don't get why people use Lilliana, i am trying to run a decent loam myself and i found Rotting Rats to do the discarding job much better.Try them out if you like

January 28, 2016 11:30 p.m.

GEOforce20 says... #12

Gakros they run Liliana because she is insurance against bogles, gets rid of creatures and gets rid of opponents hands. she also demands to be killed if possible so it helps in burn and aggro matchups aswell. also her ulti is devastating, but it rarely gets used. I haven't done much testing with her or this deck in general but from the games I have played she helps greatly. but in the late game rotting rats could be very handy, so I might try them. thanks for suggesting.

January 29, 2016 1:21 a.m.

Mahna says... #13

Gakros Liliana is a force that must be dealt with rotting rats is just a 1/1 that makes you discard at most twice, Liliana can make you discard continuously and can kill creatures and poses that threat of firing an ultimate making her a great threat once she hits the board. You have to attack her or exert spells on killing her, I think she is a much better choice here.

Liliana of the Veil

At worst she is a combination of (discard or kill creature) and (prevent damage to you as she's being attacked instead or/and they discard and pay for 1/2 spells to kill her) this is assuming she only lives one turn...

At best she wins you the game

Rotting Rats

At worst discards a card and blocks a dude

At best discards a card, blocks a creature with toughness 1 and trades or attacks for 1 a few times, unearths for a discard and then attacks for 1 and is blocked by a toughness 1 dude for another trade

The only problem I can see with liliana is nothing to do with her playability

Her cost (as in $$ not ) but she is worth every penny!

Its just that on my Dredge Decks, plainwalkers rarely survive the self-mill mechanism. So i had to question them.

Mahna , GEOforce20 thanks both for the clarifications.

Also GEOforce20 i would suggest trying Dakmor Salvage they are like-mini Life from the Loam. For those times of need that a Loam is nowhere to be seen.

GEOforce20 says... #16

It seems like a solid idea, but the land base is way too strict for a single colour enters-tapped land. would provide utility though...

Also, if you run a more dredgevine or graveyard aggro style deck then rats is definitely the better choice (specifically to recast Gravecrawlers), but for grindier decks lily is unmatched.

January 29, 2016 12:45 p.m.

Gakros says... #17

No,no you dont use it as a land.you simply use it to activate retrace effects.Using it as a land would be the worst play to do with it.
But Life from the Loam requires 2mana per turn to consistently use it.Where Dakmor Salvage is in your hand, thanks to dredge every turn for 0 mana cost.
Activating the Retraces at 0mana could save the day.

GEOforce20 says... #18

in most situations you will always want to dredge and play Life from the Loam, it recurs ghasts and is an extra dredge. if I dredge Dakmor Salvage, I get to retrace something, not play a land, not recur Bloodghasts, not fuel Zombie Infestation. and if I dredge loam, I get to play a land, maybe retrace something with that land, or get a 2/2 off infestation, and recur ghasts. I have those Golgari Brownscales to help find loam and is also insurance against burn. dakmor salvage just isn't worth it to me, apart from it just being more "dig" in the form of dredge.

Gakros says... #19

GEOforce20 you sir are correct! Playtested your Deck and yeah dredging Life from the Loam from gy every turn seems the best course of action.

Me and my friend both have built and run Loam decks, and I am not sure if three mainboard pharaohs is a good plan. They are effective, but I think you could run something else in that third slot and get more results. I've been on the receiving end of my friend's loam deck more then a few times, and in every situation that the Pharaoh could hit something that mattered, it wasn't worth losing the life. I'm not sure what a better card would be, but I feel that it isn't so good as to warrant 3 slots.

It seems pretty streamlined, if it helps at all, you can take a look at the list I've been running for a while...I'm having trouble with sideboard, and I'm still constantly testing and editing the list...let me know what you think and whether it helps or not

I run 3 as I am terrified of facing heavy creature decks (zoo, junk, jund, even mono green/gruul stompy and delver or burn!), and its a way to kill creatures that don't die to Flame Jab Darkblast or brupt decay. also killing creatures with pharaohs while dredging Golgari Brownscales creates an effective soft-lock, where my opponent cant attack efficiently. and when I need to dig for my pharaohs, I REALLY need to dig for them.

I used to run a junk reanimator loam style deck aswell, exept it reanimated Sun Titans to bring back utility and the old melira/seer/finks combo. sun titans could definitely fit in yours Skooma, aswell as a few Spellskites for utility? they can also recur your lilies, which is extremely powerful.

thanks Skooma and FineCashew9 for comments.

I see your reasons. I personally run more removal in my list, and lingering souls as well, so I suppose I need the Pharaoh less. The list is here at http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/05-01-16-eRP-loam-pox/ if you want to take a look.
