Lobster Crew Mk II

Standard* UBR (Grixis)

Sideboard

Maybeboard

The goal of this deck is to cast a bunch of multicolored spells to untap Lobber Crew. The primary win condition in this deck is to keep the opponent off of doing much while whittling away at their health using Lobber Crew. Finish them off using Hypersonic Dragon, Consuming Aberration, or Niv-Mizzet, Dracogenius beatdown. An alternate win condition is to use Duskmantle Guildmage with Breaking / Entering or Consuming Aberration.

Took the deck to FNM for a spin.

Match 1: 1-2 Loss. Played against RG Monsters. Game one win, lost other two to Polukranos, World Eater. Didn't draw into any good removal for it. Sided in soul ransom, however unsure for other sideboards for this matchup.

Match 2: 2-0 Win. Played against Mono White Weenie. 2-0 easy, Lobber Crew and Frostburn Weird make good walls against Soldier of the Pantheon and all the other low power creatures being played. Sided in Anger of the Gods and Auger Spree.

Match 3: 2-1 Win. Played against Mono Red Devotion that splashed green and white. White was for Chained to the Rocks and Assemble the Legion and the green for Mistcutter Hydra and Domri Rade. There were probably more cards that I did not see. Mistcutter poses a huge threat since the only straight removal I have for it is Dreadbore and it cannot be Turn / Burn'd unless it's at 2 counters. Won the match using Consuming Aberration. Game two I lost quickly against Fanatic of Mogis with a huge devotion dump on turn five. Sided in Auger Spree for the extra removal and Anger of the Gods to fight the devotion. May consider adding Rakdos Charm to sideboard if artifacts and graveyards become more played.

Match 4: 2-1 Win. I joined the round late so I started off with a first game loss. Played against Orzhov Aggro. Soldier of the Pantheon is a real pain in the ass for this deck. Dealt with Obzedat, Ghost Council and Blood Baron of Vizkopa easily with the removal spells I had available to me. Sided in Anger of the Gods, Izzet Staticaster, Izzet Charm, and Auger Spree in this matchup.

Match 5: 2-1 Win. Played against Simic Devotion. Lost game one to a mad rush of creatures pulled off of Garruk, Caller of Beasts. Won game two by using Soul Ransom on Prophet of Kruphix and then flashing in a Master of Cruelties at the end of their turn. Game three was won by playing a Consuming Aberration at 9 p/t and the opponent scooping. Sided in Soul Ransom and Slaughter Games for this matchup.

Notes:

I feel like the two guildmages aren't doing much. I like Nivix Guildmage because it helps me loot for the other cards I want but I find myself siding both of them out every single time on game 2. I might want to bump Frostburn Weird up to four and cut out Nivmagus Elemental altogether, however I feel that the elemental could help me out against aggressive lists and lets me get rid of dead spells I might have in hand.

Pyroconvergence always felt a little too slow for me while in hand, but whenever I played it it always won me the game.

Soul Ransom is really shaky on my sideboard. On one hand I love using it on Desecration Demon, Polukranos, World Eater, Stormbreath Dragon, and Prophet of Kruphix but it's hard to keep it in play. We also lost Evil Twin when Innistrad rotated out so there isn't a good "Clone and then kill" or just straight up take a card effect in standard (and one that's preferable multicolor as well).

Peak Eruption barely came into play and I might remove it. Chained to the Rocks is obnoxious but I can usually get around it.

Unfortunately I did not get to play against Mono Black or Mono Blue devotion, the two "top dogs" As of right now so I can't put up feedback for it
