Shit me too scrotality! My LGS is starting to do Modern and Standard FNM, and then I saw this article... Damnit, I thought I was done. Good thing it's only $90, a third of which is Ugin which I need for UTron and another $20 goes into Digs which will hold some value post-rotation.

How do you feel about Descent of the Dragons combo with ugin's second ability? It's an effective board wipe for five man and it could replace Riddle of Lightning since the great majority of your spells are only 2 mana

@ tempest - It seems like that would be a great combo, but the chances of me having Ugin and Descent worries me. I have a better chance of Riddling a DTT.
May 28, 2015 1:08 p.m.
Ok yeah. Just read your post on the main page and budget is a concern. :/ Was going to suggest another ugin or two. Honestly this reminds me of KrazyCaley's bolas deck. I guess elder dragons have that effect

@ tempest -- I completely forgot about that deck, hah! I could consider going up to two Ugins because I need two for UTron in Modern, but I don't want to buy them while they're overpriced in Standard.

Challenge: make this modern playable! Then I can play it and not violate my personal oath to not play standard :D

Not sure about that, scrotality, these standard counters are pretty bad :P
Just play Blue Moon :P

I feel like I'm trying too hard. Curse of the Swine? Works with Anger of the Gods as well.

Why's that, tempest? I kind of like Curse of the Swine, but where would it fit? It's also sorcery speed....

@ SpadezPro -- I like Lightning Strike more because of the 3 damage. Magma Jet is a good 2-damage spell and I also like it more because of the scry.

With all the counters around I'd have thought that Thunderbreak Regent would be a perfect finisher. I built a similar deck around it Izzet Control?
June 4, 2015 11:13 a.m.
Wait, it linked to the wrong place... Ah well. Best of luck with this deck anyway! +1

Thanks, DaftVader! I've considered Thunderbreak Regent, but I think he's still easily removed. At least easier than Ugin and Keranos, which have served as very good win conditions thus far. I'll keep them in mind!

Have you considered Reality Shift. I run a similar deck (not listed on tappedout) and I personally think its the best creature removal in Standard.

Thanks for the comment, RedChambers. I've considered Reality Shift, but I don't like that it gives my opponent a creature, which will cost me another spell to get rid of. I'd rather counter it in the first place.

Been running this list for a while now, been mainly contemplating if I should drop two Steam Augury and two Riddle of Lightning for 4 Thunderbreak Regent so that i could run Silumgar's Scorn and Dragonlord's Prerogative in the side while dropping cruise from the main to make room for extra card draw coming out of the side. It acts as basically three damage and discard a card for 4 mana and can be another win con or blocker if need be. I do like the dragonless version except I have been playing Sarkhan, the Dragonspeaker instead of riddle as pseudo removal at 4 damage but also a decent win con. Thanks for the inspiration deck still is great!

i think you could get away with a couple less lands and at least 1 more copy of keranos

@ Mendel12 I want to be hitting all of my land drops, so I think 26 lands is a good place to be. There's probably wiggle room to go to 25, but an additional Keranos wouldn't help. I dig quite a bit with this deck, so finding either Keranos or Ugin is rarely a problem. Hell, I win off of Mindswipes half the time. Thank you for the comment! Feel free to make a counter argument, but that's my stance at the moment.

I REALLY like this deck! I may just try it out someday!
One little suggestion would be to use a playset of Temple of Epiphanys and maybe cut 2 Evolving Wilds, 1 Mountain, and 1 Radiant Fountain.
The scrying with the land is just too good to pass up in my opinion, and the lands are only $2-3, so it would not really jack up the price. I also think that you have enough instants and sorceries to fuel delve without the 2 Evolving Wilds.
Also, Steam Augury is not Standard legal, so I would replace them with 1 Anticipate and a Dissolve.
And again, great deck, hope it works out well! I love to se new innovative strategies!
June 13, 2015 8:24 p.m.
Lol, never mind, Steam Augury is legal, I just don't know what I was thinking...

@ Ochvozhni -- This deck is meant to be a hyper-budget build. I've attempted to minimize the cost of the cards that will drop post-rotation, including Temples. Notice that the only expensive cards are Ugin, Keranos, and DTT, all of which will hold value post-rotation. I currently have a set of fetches I can run, but am choosing not to in order to gauge the performance of this budget list. Thank you for the comment, and be sure to let me know if you try the deck out! It's a blast to pilot- especially when your opponent isn't expecting a Mindswipe for 10+ to finish off the game. It can really catch some people off guard.

Clicked on it because of title, was not disappointed. This is exactly the type of control deck I am looking for, and on tcg it's only 73 dollars. I'll definitely be buying this as soon as possible. Thanks for posting this deck lad.

@ TreeGobo -- I'll ignore the lad part, but thank you for the comment! The deck is a lot of fun to play, and requires little investment into Standard value- exactly what I was looking for!
