Commander / EDH Combo Mono-Red

UPDATE 10/15/19: OLD DESCRIPTION BELOW. Removed the meme cards and made it more streamlined. Feldon's still my boy! Will update the description when I have the time.

Feldon of the Third Path is a unique general, especially in Mono-Red. There aren't very many Mono-Red generals that utilize the graveyard and reanimate things, which is super sweet in general. On top of this, Feldon also doesn't bring things back from the graveyard directly, only creating tokens, so he can copy things multiple times and can't get stopped by effects such as Grafdigger's Cage .

So, the main win condition is to try and get extreme amounts of value from ETBs, LTBs, activated abilities, and combat damage triggers to grind our opponents out of the game. How do we get there? Let's break the deck down!

We're a mono-colored deck, so most of the ramp options are pretty standard. Rapid-fire explanations!

Burnished Hart - basically Explosive Vegetation but for any color. Great card! It can also be copied by Feldon to generate even more lands.

Caged Sun - we're only running Mountains as a colored mana source, so Caged Sun is basically going to double all of our mana.

Commander's Sphere - a mana rock that can be used as card draw later! Fantastic card. Mind Stone and Hedron Archive fall under the same category.

Finally, Darksteel Ingot and Gilded Lotus produce colored mana, Sol Ring is always the classic runaway with the game ramp card, and Worn Powerstone is pretty solid for 3 mana.

Alright, so there's that one card on the top of the Threats list that won't make any sense to the average player. See the "That One Weird Card" section for more information on Glorious End !

Let's get the boring combo out of the way first - there is exactly one infinite combo in this deck, and that's Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker and Zealous Conscripts . For those of you that don't know, you can target Kiki-Jiki with Zealous Conscripts' triggered ability to untap Kiki-Jiki. Use Kiki-Jiki to make a copy of Zealous Conscripts, untap Kiki-Jiki, make another copy...until you kill your opponents with 3/3 hasty creatures. I said this combo is boring since it is an infinite combo without a lot of pieces, but it's in this deck because it is a necessary evil. Some games do go on forever, and having an emergency "let's end the game" combo can help out the table way more than it hurts.

Individually, though, both cards are great in Feldon! Kiki-Jiki can make an additional copy of whatever token copy we got with Feldon, and Zealous Conscripts can keep stealing things for a turn in case we needed something.

Kozilek, the Great Distortion makes his return in Feldon!...but why, though? Kozilek does everything Feldon wants in this deck - drawing cards, big beat-stick, and he can discard cards for a huge benefit - interaction! I'm never sad about seeing Kozilek in this deck, and I can't imagine the deck without him.

Myr Battlesphere , AKA "Battle-Ball", is one of the premier Feldon targets to make a copy of. Battle-Ball comes with 4 Myr tokens, and can guarantee a ton of damage to the defending player on each swing! And, the more Battle-Ball tokens you create, the more Myr tokens you create, and you can eventually run over your opponents.

Let's add some old fashioned fun mechanics to the deck with Pathrazer of Ulamog ! Not only does Pathrazer have super menace, but Annihilator 3 is super strong! Also, Feldon copying the Pathrazer can easily put someone out of the game. Need I say more?

Spawn of Thraxes can take someone out of the game out of nowhere. Slam down a couple of copies to deal enough damage to knock them out! If the game goes really late, you can get upwards to about 14 damage each Feldon activation.

Finally, Utvara Hellkite ramps up a ton in power over time. Huge tokens flying at all of our opponents is fun!

Value time! These creatures aren't particularly threats with Feldon, but they can generate crazy amounts of value when used correctly with Feldon!

Clone Shell can get creatures out for free! That's pretty sweet. If we whiff, it doesn't really matter, but it can feel bad. However, we can keep creating token copies of Clone Shell to start getting extreme amounts of value out of our deck! And, since the token gets sacrificed at the end of turn, the exiled card comes back immediately!

Dualcaster Mage increases our level of interaction by copying some cool spells that our opponents cast! One of the best targets is a cloning spell like Quasiduplicate - if you copy it on the stack, you can create infinite Dualcaster Mage tokens by copying Dualcaster Mage!...just make sure that Dualcaster Mage isn't the only creature you can target, or else the game ends in a tie!

Everyone's favorite value dino, Etali, Primal Storm , makes its appearance in Feldon! Stealing everyone else's stuff is great, especially if you make a token copy of Etali!

Goblin Welder ...this card is one of the best cards in the deck. I know you've probably read this a million times, but this time for real - Feldon can generate a ton of value with Goblin Welder. Feldon of the Third Path 's token copies are also...artifacts! You can sacrifice them to Goblin Welder to get an artifact back from your graveyard! You can even make a token copy of Goblin Welder and sacrifice itself to get another artifact back from your graveyard! The value is real.

Inferno Titan deals a ton of damage over time, and is useful for picking off small things. That's all there is to say, really!

Mindclaw Shaman can steal the best cards in an opponent's hand. If they're holding a lot of suspicious looking cards, use Mindclaw Shaman to see what they're holding on to!

Molten Primordial can steal a bunch of creatures from our opponents. Threaten effects are powerful, and Molten Primordial is no exception. Don't take it lightly!

Myr Retriever and Scrap Trawler wrap up our artifact package by grabbing us essential artifacts that we need from the graveyard. Scrap Trawler works pretty well with our artifact Feldon token copies, too!

Thanks to the almighty power that is Mono-Red, we have access to many different cards that have wheel effects, which are my favorite type of cards in all of MTG! Reforge the Soul , Collective Defiance , and Magus of the Wheel . These cards are absolutely devastating to our opponents, especially if they're holding win-cons in their hand that can't be used until much later on into the game! In addition, we're running Dragon Mage as another wheel effect, although it only activates when it deals combat damage to a player. No problem, since Feldon can keep making copies of Dragon Mage to throw at our opponents. Alternatively, we can pay in total to copy our Magus of the Wheel and wheel everyone's hands away each turn!

Speaking of cards that function well with Feldon, Combustible Gearhulk does a ton for Feldon. If our opponents let us draw 3, then that's a huge amount of card advantage! If they choose to mill us, then we have more reanimator targets for Feldon, and they take a ton of damage! Combustible Gearhulk is also reanimateable, so go nuts!

Neheb, Dreadhorde Champion is one of the new cards from War of the Spark. He generates us mana, yes, but the main reason why he's so good is that he discards cards from our hand and draws us cards. That's more reanimator fodder for Feldon! Fantastic addition to the deck.

Humble Defector is a recent card that I didn't understand at first, but then I had someone explain it to me and why it's really cool in Feldon - if you make a token copy of Humble Defector, and activate its ability to draw 2 cards and donate the copy to someone, the token copy doesn't get sacrificed at the end of the turn. This is because you can't sacrifice permanents you don't control! You can keep passing around Humble Defector token copies around the table, and everyone can draw cards! It's super fun.

Mono-Red is also infamous for looting and rummaging effects (especially, at the time of writing, in Modern!) such as Burning Inquiry and Faithless Looting , all being super strong draw effects that get us cards that we want in the discard pile. Cathartic Reunion , Deal Broker (with irrelevant Conspiracy text), and Tormenting Voice also contribute to the digging potential that Feldon needs to function properly.

...huh? Burning Inquiry is a bad card? That's nonsense! Since it affects everyone at the table, you can potentially disrupt opponents just by randomly casting Burning Inquiry. Sure, you might discard some powerful creatures that you want to cast...ha! We're playing mono-red reanimator, so that's not even a downside! The best times to play Burning Inquiry are on turn 1, when people want to keep their perfect hand full of ramp and answers, and you crush it out of their hand...at random, of course.

People usually have Daretti, Scrap Savant as their commander for their deck, but we're actually going to be running Daretti in the 99. His [+2] is more rummaging, which is fantastic! And of course, we can use his [-2] and sacrifice a Feldon token copy to get some artifact back from the graveyard! I always say a Feldon deck can switch their commander out for Daretti, but a Daretti deck can't switch their commander out for Feldon.

What about Chandra Ablaze ? I put her in over Jaya Ballard because Chandra has a wheel effect! It's political, more interactive, and more fun than Jaya.

Pyroblast and Red Elemental Blast are fantastic cards because blue is pretty much the most dominant color in EDH, and can completely oppress a lot of decks thanks to cards like the aforementioned Omniscience, Expropriate , Enter the Infinite , Consecrated Sphinx ...yikes. My playgroup plays a lot of Blue, so I'm running both Pyroblast and Red Elemental Blast to hose down potential threats. And again, if they aren't playing Blue, just Wheel or Loot them away!

Chaos Warp is the mono-red staple! Remove anything on the battlefield for the low, low price of 3 mana! Your opponents will rarely get anything good, since it only puts permanents on the field, and doesn't cast powerful instants or sorceries. Just make sure you be careful using Chaos Warp against a permanent only deck!

Duplicant is an all star. Exile effects are rare in red, so Duplicant cleans up that spot nicely by exiling whatever nasty creature our opponents have.

Meteor Golem and Spine of Ish Sah both destroy permanents. Meteor Golem is particularly great because we can make token copies of it using Feldon! Fantastic cards.

What's better than removing one thing? How about an army of things? Steel Hellkite is such an all-star, destroying waves of tokens with one fell swoop.

Ever wanted a card that could just do...everything?! Ugin, the Ineffable makes yet another appearance in Feldon! Not only does he make our artifacts cost less, but he draws us cards and destroys things! Ugin is a powerhouse, and definitely a card that we want to protect.

Blasphemous Act , Chain Reaction , and Starstorm can totally wipe all of the creatures out. Blasphemous Act is great since it can cost just , but the other cards are great too! Starstorm can also be cycled out for a fresh new card.

Finally, we have Nevinyrral's Disk . Fun story - when I got back into Magic again, I slammed down the Disk for the first time in my first EDH game back. The rest of the table groaned - Disk just holds everyone hostage, too afraid to play their important stuff in fear of the table just getting wiped with a single activation.

Glorious End .

One final chance.

Not really.

This is probably the most jarring card to see in the list, but let me explain. Glorious End is a late game bomb and a complete disaster for your opponents if you're playing in a very close game. If your opponent tries to resolve something like Omniscience , you can put Glorious End on top of the stack and get one more shot at winning the game. Alternatively, you can be political with the card, which makes the card extremely fun to play with. On top of this, you can actually stop the "Lose the game" trigger from happening, thanks to Sundial of the Infinite . Sundial does a lot for us already, and now it makes one of the most powerful blowout cards in our deck have no drawbacks. Incredible! And, if you're already winning the game hard enough to the point where you don't need Glorious End anymore, you can Loot or Wheel it away to the many looting effects that make up the deck.

Worldgorger Dragon works like a Mono-Red Teferi's Protection in this deck! Copy Worldgorger Dragon with Feldon, take out all of your permanents, and at the end of the turn, sacrifice the token to bring all of your stuff back! It's extremely powerful if you have Anger in the graveyard or Thousand-Year Elixir on the field.

Krark-Clan Ironworks is also a fantastic way to get a refund on token copies...and for Scrap Trawler shenanigans, of course. Also along those lines, Skullclamp and Altar of Dementia are great upgrades to get value out of your token copies!
