no Ilovespiders, as the description now says, lol, I really only started playing competatively from RTR forward, so I don't have a huge base of Innistrad back and don't really want to trade for or buy cards that I can only use for a month.

You should try Blood Baron of Vizkopa , he's a really great powerhouse. +1

@ catcherinbaseball, I am very seriously contemplating it

try Tenacious Dead instead of Dutiful Thrull , it has "kind of" regen and you can sacrifice it to cauldron and return it to the battlefield later...

@ Sniper83, that is an excellent idea and I am going to try it out.

If you're discarding all those creatures to power Lotleth Troll , why not add some graveyard recursion/Solar Flare type stuff? Discard fatties with ETB triggers ( Obzedat, Ghost Council comes to mind) and recur them with Unburial Rites , that Angel chick that fetches Humans out of the graveyard, or that new spell that returns all creatures with CMC = X back to the battlefield (couldn't think of names off the top of my head...). Or at least creatures you can return to your hand for added effect, or benefit from being in the graveyard (maybe Slitherhead or other such cards). Just an idea.

@ aeonstoremyliver - I would have done that if those creatures existed in RTR or M14 :)

Unburial Rites , Immortal Servitude , Angel of Glory's Rise , Sin Collector , Angel of Serenity , Armada Wurm , Banisher Priest , etc.
Granted I use Lotleth Troll in a Modern deck in conjunction with Fauna Shaman , Bloodghast , Vengevine , and the like, but even utilizing the Scavenge mechanic would be beneficial, IMO.

Scratch Angel of Glory's Rise ... Doesn't work well w Lotleth Troll ; I saw that after the fact.

Voice of Resurgence is much better than Tenacious Dead for this deck. Also I would suggest replacing Elixir of Immortality with something a bit less useless. Advent of the Wurm would be a good choice. It synergizes well with Ajani, Caller of the Pride . Elixir of Immortality could always be moved into the sideboard if you are afraid of mill decks.

@ Boomwizard, I don't use Elixir of Immortality against mill, I use it solely for the purpose of never running out of cards. With the aggressive lifegain and the ability to discard to pump my troll, I just cycle my graveyard back in and start over. I've been over 40 life before with a brand new cycle of cards and an 8/8 Lotleth Troll on the field before. And right now I don't have $120 to throw at 3 VOR, and wouldn't even if I did. I have contemplated using Advent of the Wurm and Call of the Conclave though.
@ aeonstoremyliver, I have 3 AOS sitting around, I'm just not sure they really play a great role here. I don't have enough of the same mana cost creatures to justify playing Immortal Servitude .With Armada Wurm and Banisher Priest , both are valid suggestions, and I'm just not sure they fit with what the theme or goal of the deck is.Sin Collector seems very conditional and more of a sideboard card than a mainboard in just about any case, where someone you are playing is playing a very heavy instant or sorcery deck.

Those were some examples of ETB effects to make use of in conjunction with graveyard recursion. I think that Lotleth Troll is a great creature discard outlet, but needs to built around. I'm still working on this, but you're more than welcome to borrow some ideas for Standard (it's Modern):

This reminds me of something similar to what I make, +1 and cheers!

I'd sub out [card:lotleth-troll] for [card:scavenging-ooze]. Add's life gain and you are not getting rid of your cards to make him bigger.

Scavenging Ooze comboed with Lotleth Troll ?? Seems legit to me!!

Brett05, I have contemplated that, I only have one Scavenging Ooze right now though, and I want to play off of Nighthowler when Theros releases. Google it if you haven't seen it yet. Still, I don't think Scavenging Ooze doesn't have a place in this deck. Good suggestion!
jmallette1 - that's what my original pre-theros deck was built around
September 5, 2013 11:13 a.m.
Ahh Nighthowler will be cool. I'm worried you don't have enough creature destruction main board to make it really dangerous though.
September 5, 2013 11:18 a.m.

@ jmallette1, I have been thinking about that, just going all out removal LG, with tokens with this, using the Abrupt Decay , Putrefy and leaving the Gaze of Granite sideboard. There are so many upcoming options to use deathtouch for removal and destruction as well. And with the trample on stuff, even using flyers, I can use that to my advantage using Midnight Recovery to bring cards back, so many options
September 6, 2013 12:24 p.m.
I'm just wondering where you think nighthowler is a better fit. Ooze is a two drop that gets bigger without disposing of creatures. It is less color saturated than either nighthowler or lotleth. And he gets bigger the longer he is out. If lifegain is the point of this deck then Ooze is definitely the better choice for the deck. Say you have ooze and archangel of thune out, pump the ooze, which triggers thune, which puts another counter on every creature. Lotleth is incredibly uneffective in this deck. You lose your threats in your hand, and he is black green.

Good feedback Brett05, that's exactly what I am looking for, pros and cons of using different things. I am really thinking of going strictly black/white on this, but the green splash adds so much to it.
Those dang oozes are so expensive tho

When you get a chance, try out Underworld Connections ! It would be a nice addition because in playtests, I noticed your hand gets low pretty fast. That would be good, and what about the card Ethereal Armor when you get Bestow and enchant creatures from Theros? +1

Virtuous_Vice, you are right on target, my brother and I pretty much discussed this exact scenario today. You get where I am coming from. And look at this combo, Brett05, Nighthowler is bestowed on Lotleth Troll , so every time I discard a creature I am essentially adding +2/+2 to my troll, who has trample. If my troll for some reason dies, the Nighthowler hits the field with a +1/+1 for the troll dying, plus everything in all graveyards.
September 6, 2013 11:57 p.m.
Yes, but it's incredibly costly, and easy to deal with with all the graveyard hate. And you forget the fact that in order to make a lotleth bigger you have to discard your other threats. And lotleth is only effective during the beginning in your opening hand. Ooze is good any time and you get to play your other creatures

Seems pretty solid of a deck. +1 from me.
