Sideboard

I'll admit: Licia, Sanguine Tribune isn't an ideal voltron commander. She isn't evasive, she's kinda clunky (even with lifegain bursts like Elixir of Immortality), and her implicit life-gain theme nixes the possibility of a sleek, uber-aggro voltron build. There are frills to Licia.

Licia, with her frills and wonkiness, is very mechanically interesting and fun to play voltron with. With her legion of life-draining vampires, her arsenal of swanky swords, and extensive removal magic, managing Licia is a challenging and rewarding experience. BUT-- THIS ISN'T AN "IDEAL" BUILD AND THE VAMPIRE SUBTHEME (while effective) IS MORE FOR FLAVOR THAN SUBSTANCE.

About omissions: I'm forgoing Rhox Faithmender and Exsanguinate for now because I don't own them and I don't find myself ever starving for life. Gaining life is key, but the m.o. of the deck is to stubbornly kill with a suited-up Licia. I reckon they'd be solid performers, though. Felidar Sovereign certainly would make the deck better, but I'm not interested in winning that way atm. Even if I splurged for tutors (which I think are kinda boring in excess), this deck wouldn't be super competitive, and I enjoy playing without them .

Licia nonetheless packs explosive potential. The deck is quite interactive, can win in a pinch, and rewards shrewd, patient play.

I'm all for suggestions! Especially if they're strange. Thanks!
---Ramblings and Observations after about 20 games:

. Sunforger is sweet here. Teferi's Protection, Crackling Doom, Return to Dust, and Swords to Plowshares among other potent spells can be forged out. Master Warcraft and Mana Tithe (pet cards) are especially spicy options. They often my catch opponents unprepared.

.The early game-plan is to deploy lifelinkers, control the board with removal, and sniff for a safe opening to deploy Licia. Authority of the Consuls and Blind Obedience do great work--they abate aggro starts and gain us oodles of tasty, useful life to spend later. Flyers like Baneslayer Angel and Vampire Nighthawk can wield the swords if Licia isn't sticking.

. It's nice to boost out an early Licia with cheap tricks like Sunbeam Spellbomb and Chaplain's Blessing. However, it's especially important to have evasion available before going all-in with Licia. Licia can get prohibitively expensive fast if she gets killed early--especially if we don't have a reliable life-gain engine to get her back online.

. Sigarda's Aid and Vedalken Orrery are the best cards in the deck. When I play Diabolic Tutor, I'm usually inclined to find one of them. They allow us to abuse the stack like we're smarmy blue players.

With Sigarda's Aid in play, it's not prudent to be strictly mana efficient when casting equipment. It's better to negate impending removal by responding with Lightning Greaves or Whispersilk Cloak than it is to be blown out by removal after, say, casting an EoT greaves into open mana. With these cards in play, let your opponents act first. (Might already be common knowledge to many readers, everything's a learning experience for me)

. Aetherflux Reservoir is a free kill, so handle it with respect and don't cast it flippantly. Sure, it reduces Licia's cost a bit if cast early. Exposing it is risky, though. It's usually better to wait until you've smoked someone with Licia and are sitting at a thicc life total to play the reservoir. At that point, it's easy dispose of another player with it. EV is higher if you don't cast it ASAP.

. Blood Tribute + Sanguine Bond/Defiant Bloodlord is a backdoor combo that sometimes goes unchecked and can kill an opponent. I'm down. It's not the focal point of the deck, though, so I'm not sure about shelling out for a copy of Exquisite Blood.

. Like many voltron decks, this one is brittle and packs little recursion. Sometimes it's correct to pray, nut up, and empty your hand in hopes of taking someone out; but one Vandalblast or Austere Command can stop the deck in its tracks. Be conservative and unassuming while scheming and assembling the parts for your KO blow.

. I'm convinced that every Licia deck should run Chandra's igniton. It's not great when you're losing, but it's backbreaking if you're in position with a juiced up Licia. Absurd blowouts ensue: It clears the board of blockers, decimates your opponents' life totals, and nets you dozens if not hundreds of life.

. I stole Azami, Lady of Scrolls with New Blood once at is was sweet; turning the conceited old wizard and her knowledge over to the dark side. However, Lighting Helix, New Blood, and Malakir Bloodwitch might be on the chopping block, since they don't shine in this build.
