Okay, so after looking through the M15 Spoilers, most people are looking at Bant Superfriends, R/G Midrange, and Enchantress to be big things it seems. All of them have a lot of potential, and I think they'll see a lot of play, but there's a classic hidden back there, waiting in the wings I think. the Revival of
Preeminent Captain
in standard, along with the shiny newcomer
Paragon of New Dawns
and its pal Ajani Steadfast makes me think that good ol' White Weenie is ready to bring the hurt.
For those who are new to the concept, White Weenie is a deck type that's been around almost as long as Magic itself. The idea is to drop a bunch of cheap but efficient creatures (a.k.a. weenies) and plow through your opponent as speedily as possible. a few good examples of a winning weenie through the ages include
Alaborn Grenadier
,
Elite Vanguard
,
Isamaru, Hound of Konda
, and most recently
Soldier of the Pantheon
. Its a super aggressive style of play that has a lot of ups and downs.
Pros, Easy to pilot (plotting and scheming is for sissies, drop your creatures fast and hit 'em hard.) Requires minimal landfixing, Allows for a few mistakes to be made, Monocolored, but allows plenty of room for color splashing, Fun to play, and rewarding, Most card prices stay relatively low, From turn one, you threaten your opponent with fast, agressive creatures.
Cons: Control is your baneNormally monocolored (its a double edges sword), Midrange can overpower you, you're very predictable, and From turn one, you are on a clock, having limited time to blow down your opponent before their plans come together.
Now, down to this specific deck. For this excersize, we're gonna' be splashing blue into our army for access to a few things that can really change the game up. The first one is Lavinia of the Tenth, who allows you to lock down your opponent really heavily in the early stages of the game. The second is Ephara, God of the Polis. Ephara is a really great, really fun draw engine that allows you to keep cards in your hand, and therefore creatures on the field just for playing what you have. Lastly,
Daxos of Meletis
can be of use here, possibly allowing you to put any extra mana you have into playing your opponents cards against them.
Note- Field Marshal will not be standard in M15, obviously. This is a stand-in card for Paragon of New Dawns, an awesome soldier lord that comes with M15 (3W, 2/2, Other white creatures you control get +1/+1: W and tap, a white creature you control gains vigilance until end of turn)
