The deck plans to exploit Marchesa's recursion ability with sacrifice outlets and triggered abilities.

The instant-speed sacrifice outlets let me trigger the abilities during each player's turn, and also keep my creatures safe from exile and theft effects (except for split second).

Creatures that supply their own +1/+1 counters are handy, since this color combination has few ways to grant +1/+1 counters. There are some ways, though, and I'm glad to get them because dethrone sometimes doesn't work, and Marchesa has to get a counter for herself from somewhere. Keiga likes them, too.
