My current build of an izzet control and burn deck... it's a work in progress so bear with me, and of course advice would be welcome as always.

The main idea's behind it are to burn, burn and burn some more, using Melek, Izzet Paragon to get more for your money (or mana) so to speak, as well as Goblin Electromancer reducing my instant and sorcery cost. Melek is an expensive card for the deck but giving two cast's of the spell on top of the deck makes all the difference. Whilst i'm burning the opponents life i'm also limiting what spells they cast with the Izzet Charm and Essence Scatter, if it makes it to beyond turn 6 then i have the option of AEtherling to finish off the game.

I've tried to include all the staple cards for my side deck but i'm pondering if i should be running Guttersnipe in my main deck, though he may actually slow my burn... also Nivix Cyclops could help me be more aggressive but again it slows down the burn... just need to play test this deck and see how it goes!

Okay so this deck saw its first tourney play at FNM this week and it came second! Was very pleased with the way it controlled the pace of the game and rarely game me a bad draw. Melek, Izzet Paragon was surprisingly useful surprising my opponents by giving me multiple burns each turn but i think 3 is possibly one too many for main deck, this deck wins with AEtherling and so i will probably be maindecking the third for the moment.

Izzet Keyrune is surprisingly useful, it gives me early mana boost and lets me take advantage of the open field before my end game cards come out. Actually far more useful than Guttersnipe who is a big target as soon as he hits the field and very prone to being removed. I

played all agro decks today, an aggressive simic evolve which i beat 2:1, burning away his creatures each turn left him top decking without any way to deal with my creatures. My second game was 2:0 to me against a very well built gruul agro but again burning away his creatures gave me the time i needed to finish the game before he could do anything to me, though Ruic Thar, The Unbowed slowed my deck, luckily aetherling just went straight through for game before too much damage was done. Final game i played a boros deck which knly won via some cheeky Boros Charm and slowing my deck with a Thalia, Guardian of Thraben in the final game for a 2:1 victory to my opponent.

Overall very happy with how this play!
