Cascade is one of those mechanics that creates a promise of madcap chaos, but doesn't quite deliver. This deck is meant to fulfill that promise. I want players to feel like they're pulling strings for an epic domino chain.

Cascade also gives some interesting constraints. A big problem with the mechanic is that it's very parasitic. I'd like to try to add as many non-cascade cards as possible, while still being true to the spirit of the mechanic.

Given all of that, it should be obvious that the main theme of this deck runs in parallel to the deck. We want to do is double-down on our main cascade chain:

  1. Maelstrom Wanderer / Maelstrom Nexus

  2. Etherium-Horn Sorcerer

  3. Bloodbraid Elf

  4. Shardless Agent

We'll essentially remove all the other cards. But what do we add?

  • Momir Vig, Simic Visionary is probably the single best non-cascade card. You can choose the order of his cast triggers for UG spells. You want to draw a card and then set up your topdeck, not the other way around.

  • Ugin's Insight is a great addition for a similar way. Casting it with Maelstrom on the field allows for a really deep scry.

  • Land ramp is a major issue with this deck. I only have two 2-drops in the deck, Coiling Oracle and Rampant Growth. This means that playing a Shardless Agent has something like a 65% chance of land ramp. (and this doesn't consider that both Agent and Oracle trigger Momir Vig)

  • Mul Daya Channelers is an effective way of letting me look at the top of my library, and can be used for land ramp.

One of these days I'll get around to testing this. It's so expensive though it'll be a while until I can justify the purchase.
