In Archmage format (Archmage - A New Format), replace Braids, Conjurer Adept with Liliana Vess, and search for Gate to the AEther or Omen Machine (depending on if you would rather no one be able to draw or no one to get non-permanents for free), holding back the other until they answer it and tutoring for Academy Ruins won't help. Deathrender works too.
