Tolarian Academy is banned in EDH.

You probably want some counters to help make your combo more reliable, just in case people catch on and get rid of your pieces.

Counterspell , Rewind , Mana Drain , Force of Will are all good places to start.

That being said, this is exactly the kind of deck I don't like in Commander, but I'll throw you a +1 anyways.

Thanks Lhurgyof both for the advice and for the +1 even though you don't like this style of deck. I've noticed people in general dislike insta-win conditions, whether they are an infinite combo or not.

And, personally, I'm not a big fan of instants and sorceries most of the time. What do you think of Counterbalance , Teferi, Mage of Zhalfir , Cavern of Souls , and In the Eye of Chaos instead?

Hmm, both Invoke Prejudice and In the Eye of Chaos would rock.

Imagine, if you will: A game were all your creatures are colorless, so all of your opponents have to pay DOUBLE for all of their creatures and instants. No more fatties swinging at you, and no more counters or removal to ruin your day. Boy that's evil.

I'd still advise putting in at least one or two counters, perhaps Mindbreak Trap as it can get past uncounterable cards (and could be free), and Mana Drain ? Drain can be a tad expensive though, so Counterspell would be fine in its place for this deck. But the drain gives you more mana and can let you cast memnarch early.

Teferi is a cool dude which allows you to flash into play some of your combo pieces.

If you're going to run Cavern of Souls , look into Riptide Laboratory . That way you can bounce memnarch or other wizards in response to wipes/removal.

Just some thoughts.

Mindbreak Trap and Force of Will are definitely going into this. There are other counterspells that could cost 0, would it be worth it to include Disrupting Shoal , Daze , Foil , and Thwart ?

If I build this irl, yeah that'll be a hurdle.

However, I really like this deck, so there is some chance that I will begin building it...

Believe it or not, I decided not to use those for a couple of reasons:

• They give me colorless mana, which means I can't replace islands with them.

• They are not part of any infinite blue mana combo, which means I would be taking out combo pieces for them.

• Mana Crypt and Mana Vault both hurt my life total slowly, which can turn out to be a problem for me in this deck.

Also, this is the ONLY commander deck where I didn't use Cavern of Souls . Lol.

Lol, actually they can! I have tried and tried, and I can not be good with countering spells. I do like the free counterspells in here so I can stop other people's infinite combos if need be, but other than that, I'm not going to counter a person's Inferno Titan or something.
