May I have a crumb of dopamine? (Discard Control)

Standard Mono-Black

I made this deck to farm quick drafts on a new MTG Arena account. Since a new account gives you so many packs, you end up with enough wild cards to make this deck (with the exception of maybe 1 or 2 uncommons u need to farm) for free immediately. Here is a budget build you can make right after making an account and opening all 60 inbox packs, and it's a deck with a shot at winning standard games to boot!

Game Plan

Rapidly play discard spells to dump the opponent's hand.

  1. Ruthless Negotiation and Hopeless Nightmare provide early threats to your opponent's hand while also providing late game draw and search when we need something important. Remember that Ruthless Negotiation can allow us to draw even if the opponent has no cards in hand.

  2. Nezumi Informant provides early defense while discarding your opponent. Thought-Stalker Warlock is usually the only creature we actually attack with because it has menace, and it discards the opponent too.

  3. Bandit's Talent is the primary win condition. Stack multiple and level them to at least 2. Level 3 is just icing on the cake.

  4. The strongest card in the deck is Cruelclaw's Heist. You can use it early or late in the game, making it versatile. I strongly recommend that when casting it early, do not gift a card. Gift a card only if the opponent is down to one or zero cards in hand - the gift will trigger first, and then you can swipe something - sometimes even a win condition! But don't be afraid to use it before that without gifting anything if you have no other discard options, because in a discard deck we want to drop that hand size as fast as possible. Besides, there are 4 in the deck and we can draw more later!

  5. Maha, Its Feathers Night is the secondary win condition. A flying trample 6/5 for 5 mana? Sure, that's great on its own. What makes this card truly ruthless is that ward - discard a card. By the time this hits the field, the opponent literally cannot remove it without suffering serious card disadvantage. And then we can just drop another one and GG.

  6. Support cards include Moonstone Harbinger, Fell, and Consumed by Greed. We don't care about Moonstone Harbinger's ability in this deck, we just want its keywords. A flying deathtouch 1/3 is great in a control shell that doesn't run many creatures to hold the field. We can't stop everything from slipping through the cracks, but we can delay it until we can deal with it using Fell or Consumed by Greed.
