Maybeboard

I've wanted to make a Malfegor deck for a long time. His original artwork is amazing, he has the coolest creature type in the game, and he has a powerful ability attached to him. However, discarding your entire hand makes Malfegor a very tricky commander to build around.

I've looked at many other builds to try and get an idea of where to start, but they all seemed subpar to me. Almost every build of the deck I looked at either forced the Madness and Hellbent mechanics (which are both underwhelming in commander, not to mention Hellbent has very little support to begin with) or they were super casual Demon/Dragon tribal builds. These types of decks simply wouldn't do. Malfegor is an awesome character and deserves an equally awesome deck.

I decided to take a different route. Instead of using Malfegor as the main focal point of the deck I'll be using him as a utility creature. His strength is wiping the board to help keep me alive - and pitching my hand to the graveyard is a way to enable this deck's main win condition: Worldgorger Dragon.

Pulling off a win with Worldgorger Dragon is just as tricky as making Malfegor work as a commander. The combo requires Worldgorger to be reanimated with Animate Dead, Dance of the Dead, or Necromancy. This creates an infinite loop of ETB and LTB triggers, as well as infinite mana should I tap my lands and mana rocks in response. For this combo to win me the game I need to have either Sunscorched Desert, gibering fiend, Anathemancer, Murderous Redcap, or Inferno Titan in play. Alternatively, I can abuse the infinite mana generated to win with Shivan Gorge or Geier Reach Sanitarium with Liliana's Caress, Megrim, Raiders' Wake, or Underworld Dreams. If none of these cards are in play and if I have no other creatures in my graveyard, there is no way to stop the infinite loop and the game will be forced into a draw. There are other cards in the Maybe Board being considered to also be abused with this combo.

Considering the above win condition requires a combination of cards and cares significantly about my graveyard, the deck makes great use of wheel effects to dig for key pieces and to pitch my hand.

There are other win conditions built into the deck. The deck takes full advantage of all its wheel effects to murder my opponents with Underworld Dreams, Liliana's Caress, Megrim, Raiders' Wake, and Faith of the Devoted. Think of your typical Nekusar, the Mindrazer deck, just without the blue. What I lack in blue I make up for with degeneracy!
