I just love the name you gave Animar. Makes me think of this:

Okay, a few questions before I start suggesting some other stuff...

Do you want control cards, infinite combos, harsh hate cards, or anything along those lines, or is this more of a "I'm not the biggest threat, ignore me while I bash your head in" type of a deck?

I noticed a lot of your cards are 2+ colored mana and you run a whole lot of non-creature cards, which slows down animar considerably.

You are, however missing a few (under $10) staples, that I'll suggest now:

Aluren Birds of Paradise Worldly Tutor Fauna Shaman Glen Elendra Archmage Lotus Cobra Palinchron Phantasmal Image Phyrexian Metamorph Spellskite Primordial Sage Prophet of Kruphix Leyline of Anticipation

Skullmulcher Slithermuse Tinder Wall Vesuvan Shapeshifter Voidmage Husher Whirlpool Warrior Wild Cantor Wood Elves Zealous Conscripts

There's some more expensive cards that are $25+ that should make the cut also, but I'm pretty sure they're not something your budget is interested in.

In all honesty, I think you are better off finding a general that has more synergy with the cards in your deck, instead of totally rebuilding the deck. I'll let you know if I think of one that works better than Animar, Soul of Elements with your cards.

I don't build decks out of staples, and I don't build combo, hate, or control. This is a primarily green aggro deck (if you couldn't tell) and it's certainly not slow. Since most of my stuff is green, it's never hard to cast anything with GGG. I'm not one of those new commander players who builds for efficiency and to win ASAP and all the time. I build on themes.

You're incredibly condescending, and I'd like you to know that I know exactly what I'm doing. I'm very deliberate with what I use and while I welcome advice, I do not welcome people telling me I built my deck wrong. EDH is not a competitive format and I refuse to play it as such.

The ones I came up with were:

Maelstrom Wanderer or Riku of Two Reflections

Or you could cut the few red cards you have and go with:

Edric, Spymaster of Trest or Damia, Sage of Stone

No. I guess you don't know what an aggro deck is.

I'm just trying to tell you that you will get hated on for just having Animar, Soul of Elements as the general in most cases. It might be a better option to go with a different general simply because of that. If you're fine with your build, that's all that matters, but I just wanted to try to help to improve the deck a little.

Sorry if I sounded condescending, but those are my genuine suggestions if you plan to keep Animar, Soul of Elements as the general. They are just that, suggestions, you don't need to make the changes if you don't want to.

I've been playing the deck for over 4 months. If I had any issues I'd have dealt with them. I just react really badly when somebody tells me to change my Commander. I chose it for a reason.

Oh my god, why did you suggest so many cards? Now I have to delete every one. And TBH I've seen all of these before. I browse through most of the relevant card in my colours when I build decks.

I do know what an aggro build is, and this doesn't really seem like one, honestly. If you want Animar, Soul of Elements to help make the fatties cheaper so you can swinger harder, faster, you should add in more 1 and 2 cost creature ramp (and the spirit guides). That way you get Animar, Soul of Elements out faster so you can load up counters on him faster. That's my personal feeling about how to go about improving the deck, and I gave you a lot of the 1 and 2 drop cards that do that.

No, this deck isn't about being as efficient as possible. I've already made myself clear, this isn't competitive, EDH was originally, and is at its core, a casual format. I intend to play casually, and I've already told you your suggestions do not fit my view of the format. I'm just gonna get rid of these comments now.

EDIT: Just read the DONT EVEN update: Sorry if you didn't want that comment. Didn't see the updates section until just now.

Honestly I was thinking about Ancestral Statue at one point myself. It's not a very offensive combo in my mind, as it's fairly easy to respond to.

Thanks for the compliment though, I appreciate it and the suggestion.

I would hug you if I could for playing Rain of Thorns. It's SUCH an underrated card!

Also, I see you have Apocalypse Hydra in your maybe board. I highly recommend it as it is an absolutely insane card.

Some other good cards are Novijen Sages (or the arguably better Sage of Fables) and Tuskguard Captain are really good.

I really love Rain of Thorns, it hits so much and it's a cheap card to grab.

I don't have Apocalypse Hydra because it's hard to find a good quality one from the store I buy at. I'll probably find a place to add it eventually, but right now all my Hydras do a lot and don't cost $5.

I don't really need any more card draw, and I much prefer Surrak for trample over stuff like Tuskguard Captain.

I'm sure this has already been said and I'm too lazy to read the updates, but have you considered putting in colorless creatures AKA Eldrazi? My Animar deck (not posting it on the site however) has all the legal Eldrazi Titans and a few other Eldrazi. The colorless makes up a small amount of the deck but it's still fun to watch my friends' faces drop when I play both Ulamogs and Kozilek all on the same turn

October 20, 2015 6:17 p.m.

Skyfolk says... #21

The only reason I don't have the eldrazi titans is because they're far too expensive. I'm not made of money. (Although it'd be cool if I was.)

Ulamog and Kozilek have dropped down significantly since MM2. I got just mine two days ago for only thirty-something dollars. Ulamog, the Ceaseless Hunger on the other hand will fluctuate so I'm glad I managed to get him in a pack. But I can see what you're saying.

"Only thirty-something" is a lot of money.
