Deck Description

So this deck is a work in progress, but its been super fun to play so far! You'll like running Marath if you like a versatile commander, that works well with the deck centered around him. If you want a deck that functions well without the commander, this probably isn't it. Marath is a very good combo piece, which is largely ignored in this decklist due to my personal (casual) playstyle, and the preferences of my playgroup. I also have alternative commander suggestions for this deck at the bottom if you want to try them out.

It is a fairly competitive deck though and would lend itself well if someone wants to try it out.

Huge shoutout to this really well written and detailed primer by Airithne for a ton of inspiration and the main list to build around!! This goes into details about the different Marath archetypes, that this deck is a combination of. If you're wanting a more focused deck go check it out!

Marath, Will of the Hoard Primer Show

Did I say this deck is versatile, well it is. Versatile. And if you get bored with your decklist another Marath archetype can be easily modified to fit!
It looks better on paper then it does in practice, although I just play it casually with my playgroup. My playgroup also has a soft cap on individual cards over $25, so no Doubling Season unfortunately. It also suffers from a lack of combos (or answers to combos) and low card draw options.

Cards Included

Marath is generally always available as the easiest source of tokens, but there are some alternates here, plus cards to make tokens more powerful.
Counters are mostly used for Marath's benefit, the more counters he gets, the less you need to recast him, and the more mana you have for other things.
While versatile, one of the most obvious ways to play Marath is aggressive, usually combined with his ability to deal damage directly to creatures/faces, or dealing indirect damage with tokens.
Marath lends himself surprisingly well to control, as the extra cushioning keeps your board safe, while simultaneously annoying opponents.
Although I don't focus on infinite combos, there are a couple, and some other card synergies that you want to try and play together if possible.
