I disliked Eidolon of the Great Revel as well when I first started building this deck, but taking 2 points of damage while dishing out 3 or 4 to your opponent is a price a burn player is willing to pay. Lightning Helix is also able to grant you life back. Eidolon forces the opponent to make conservative plays or to give you an easier target. It also negates Kitchen Finks 's lifegain ability.

What would you recommend replacing? I have a playset of both of the reprinted R fetches Bloodstained Mire + Wooded Foothills and 2 Blood Crypt so splashing black would technically cut my deck's cost significantly.

Check out my deck Lightning Bolt and Some Lookalikes, it's a Mardu burn deck that I built a while ago. Sideboard and card choice explanation is in the comments. I suggest Vexing Devil over Swiftspear, but it's really just a preference. Devil is an automatic 4 damage or they waste a removal spell (path or Bolt turn 1 most likely) on it, which then clears the way for your Guides or Eidolons. Imo it's a win-win

Love the look of this. Been thinking of making a R/B burn deck myself. I would like to know your reasoning for making Eidolon a mainboard card as opposed to a sideboard card? Most decks I see like this prefer to run it sideboard for the mirror. Have you ever considered Leyline of Punishment or Flames of the Blood Hand against lifegain decks? or possibly Blood Moon against for most decks, particularly tribal decks? I'd love to hear some of your choices.

@fr49200 Eidolon is mainboarded due to the fact that every time a spell resolves, you are damaging yourself 2, but your opponent 3. Since burn is a race, this is acceptable to a burn player. Also, your opponent cannot cast most of their deck or removal without taking two damage. If you get 2 Eidolons to stick on the board, your opponent is going to take 6 (at least) when dealing with them, and it gives you time to gather a hand instead of topdecking.
My sideboard needs a lot of work honestly, just splashed black yesterday. Blood Moon would hurt my mana base tremendously, I should probably include some basics in case that gets sided in against me.Leyline of Punishment is a gamble. If you don't get it in your opening hand, it's pretty much a dead card. Expensive for burn, and if you need a Lightning Bolt to win a close game and you topdeck Leyline, many tears will be shed. Skullcrack is a cheaper Flames of the Blood Hand .

Just add Goblin Guide and you're set. But if out of the budget is a solid list.

Make yourself useful and answer my question on my EDH deck.

Eidolon seems bad in this deck. Any time you cast any spell with him out, you're going to lose 2 life.
