Hi there!
You're deck looks sweet. I've been working on a Mardu tokens build myself, and I was wondering what you think of using Smallpox? Alongside, Flagstones of Trokair, Lingering Souls, and the token generators, it seems very powerful.
Here is my take on the deck: http://tappedout.net/mtg-decks/mardu-pox-target-build/

Hi eebrost and thanks for the comment ! Do not hesitate to +1 if you like the deck :-)
Smallpox is a good card but I don't think it fits this deck. Sure its quite good when you have all the cards you list, but it's very situational. Most of the times, the land and the discard will hurt you as much as the opponent. Plus, the double black in the cost is not that easy to come. It's more a build-around card and this deck is not built around it.

Brimaz, King of Oreskos could close games for you easily.
March 27, 2016 3:18 p.m.
Hello Sergal and thanks for the comment !
Brimaz, King of Oreskos is indeed very good, I had forgotten about him! The double white might be an issue but he's powerful enough to give him a try. I'm not sure what to take out though, any suggestions?

I would drop 1 or 2 monastery mentors, depending on if you want to run 1 or 2 brimaz.

I will give it a try and give you feedback, thanks for the idea ;-)

Have you thought about Timely Reinforcements? It's not really a "token" card but I like it in a range of decks. It may not perform at it's best here though.
March 28, 2016 4:02 p.m. Edited.
Hi HSF117 and thanks for the comment!
Timely Reinforcements is a very good card. However, with the lifegain this deck has and the tokens it produces, we rarely benefit from one of its condition, let alone both so I do not think it fits here that well :(
March 28, 2016 4:32 p.m.
Darkiwi: I agree. You have enough lifegain to support you without needing it.

I definitely like this take on the deck, it seems like it could be very powerful. I would consider dropping the sorins and 1 land, adding in 2 Vault of the Archangel and maybe another Bitterblossom or Butcher of the Horde. Check out my deck, Mardu Sacrifice

Hi concamp and thanks for the input :)
Vault of the Archangel is already on the MaybeBoard list and I will test it soon, probably in place of the 3rd Sacred Foundry.
Sorin, Solemn Visitor on the other hand has won me many games and is not going anywhere. An additionnal Bitterblossom might be good but the numbers are hard to come by and I like the current balance. I love Butcher of the Horde but I think 2 is the right number as well.
I've checked your deck, it's sweet, nice sacrifice theme :-)

I like the deck +1. Have you thought about running Terminate for extra removal? It's worked great in my mardu tokens list thar I've managed to consistently top with at my locals. Here is my list Sorin's Mardu Tokens

Hi shadowsike and thanks for the comment!
Terminate is an excellent removal. I like my numbers here but this could very well fit in ;-)
Nice deck too, btw!

gotta get my b/w token deck built and out of my head lol. kinda similar to yours here. keep pressure on with removal and tokens.i like the twist you got going.

hey dude, honestly i think you should be running 4 bitter blossom, that card is just too good. Maybe cut the dark confidants because though it is a good card it doesn't really fit your theme. You could also maybe remove the 1 lightning helix and a land if you're set on the confidants

Maybe you could consider Soul Warden, Mardu Charm, Gitaxian Probe, and Manamorphose.

Hi concamp and CaptSillva and thanks for your comments.
Regarding Bitterblossom, its an excellent card but I was actually thinking of going the other way around: I'm testing a version where I removed them for a full playset of Dark Confidants and it seems more efficient.
Regarding Soul Warden, there are already 4 Soul's Attendant in the deck and I'm also considering removing them. This is not a Soul Sisters deck so I certainly won't put more.
Mardu Charm is nice but too costy for Modern.
As for Gitaxian Probe and Manamorphose, I don't see the point. Ok they could get me a "free" token if I have a pyro or monk out but they don't belong at all in the deck, this is no Storm.
All in all, I am considering those changes : -2 Bitterblossom -4 Soul's Attendant -2 Butcher of the Horde -1 Monastery Mentor +2 Dark Confidant +2 Inquisition of Kozilek +2 Painful Truths +1 Lightning Helix* +2 Swords (I'm hesitating between Sword of Feast and Famine for the Jund/Abzan matchups and Sword of Fire and Ice for the draw)
This would make the deck more control-oriented and more axed on instant and sorceries to benefit from pyro. Therefore, card draw is essential, thus the Bobs and Truths.

I'm also considering minor changes to the manabase in order to get in 2-3 manlands (Needle Spires and/or Shambling Vent).

Gideon, Ally of Zendikar? Anthem plus Lingering Souls seems dirty
May 4, 2016 3:01 a.m.
Hi cujo253 and thanks for the comment!
Gideon, Ally of Zendikar is indeed really nice and he could really fit in there! However, I try to limit 4 cmc cards as much as possible because of Dark Confidant, I'm already about to remove the Butcher of the Horde for lower cost cards so I'm not sure about bringing Gideon to the party. I might give him a try in test in the stead of Sorin though :-)

Why run lightning helix of boros charm? Boros has better reach (base 4 or doublestriking butcher!) and can also save all your tokens from wrath effects. I've been toying with a mardu tokens list and I think boros charm is the obvious choice over lightning helix. I like the list though. You have plenty of spot removal to compensate for charm as well, though maybe a 1:1 charm:helix is what you need here rather than just a straight swap.

Hello wingsformarie and thanks for the comment :-)
Indeed, I had completely forgotten about Boros Charm, which seems of much better use here! I will update the list and test it but I think I will make the swap. Thanks for the idea :-)

I'm not so much into Modern, but I find the use of the Swords quite annoying. They do make tokens more stable, but at what cost? You need one turn to play them, and more mana to equip. It doesn't matter how big or solid they are, your weak point is still the same regardless of protection or effect: Mass removal. Sword of Fire and Ice deals damage and nets you a card. It's not amazing, but it's good enough. Sword of Light and Shadow will get you 3 life (which is irrelevant from my point of view) and will bring back a creature from a graveyard (which is also kinda poor, taking on account that you only have 11).
Personally, I'd abuse the prowess/pseudo-prowess your creatures have. Something like Monastery Swiftspear who is really fast, deals only 1 dmg if hit by Dark Confidant, and can potentially grow at least 2 times every turn, with your 23 non-creature spells. Seems pretty solid to me.
Then again, I'm not so into Modern, but that's just a little idea to help out :)

Otherwise, the deck performed very well and is super fun to play!
3rd place, score 3-1 with wins against Jeskai Ascendancy combo, mono red goblins aggro and Living End and a loss against Lantern Control.
