I say yes on both. Both have great abilities that work well with the deck.

@acbooster --- Just did the same thing, here's the options I found for the selected colors ---

Briarpack Alpha

Diluvian Primordial

Dinrova Horror

Jace's Mindseeker

Kalonian Hydra

Lavinia of the Tenth (if white)

Master Biomancer

Prime Speaker Zegana

Sepulchral Primordial

Shadowborn Demon

Sylvan Primordial

Voracious Wurm

Zameck Guildmage

Of these, my top 3 recommendations would be Shadowborn Demon at #1, Briarpack Alpha at #2, and Prime Speaker at #3.

Excellent, now look at Giant Adephage that ability is dynamite!!

ShadowLand says... #4

Also, to combat Rest in Peace and Scavenging Ooze we are going to need to at least sideboard Abrupt Decay

Troll and speaker in. At 4x and 2x for now.

If we run Thassa, God of the Sea , I assume the main purpose would be for use with the unblockable ability, am i wrong? If that's the case, I feel it doesn't have enough synergy in the deck to do what we need it to, and I would be against using it.

As for Shadowborn Demon , it's a good body creature with the enormous drawback of needing 6 creatures in the grave before it becomes stable on the field. (although with the whip reanimation, a kill spell and a hasty 5/6 flying lifelink is nothing to scoff at.)

Also, I really feel like Junk would be better colors for reanimator, even post-rotation...

Beetall I think your spot on about thasa. I put the demon in the maybe board for now, till we see how more of the deck shapes up. Junk may be better, but I think we can have more fun with BUG.

Dimir Charm your own library to dump targets and keep goodies. May I suggest utilizing a counter suite, and Crypt Ghast for if reanimation goes awry? Perhaps even Prophet of Kruphix should it be taken as control.

ShadowLand says... #10

I see junk being a downside, just because of the fact that you don't have the ability to counter any of their removal or their enchantments that shut down your re-animator strategy

Also, I support Shadowborn Demon , maybe as a two of. Also, Thassa, God of the Sea gives you the ability to geta dude unblockable, which could be key for pulling off some of the "deals damage" triggers, and it gives you Scry, which is a great tool for fixing your deck for your next draw.

Prophet of Kruphix and whip would be nice 3 ofs

Beetall says... #13

@Shadowland - I was under the impression we were leaning towards ETB effects, not dealing-damage effects...

Gray Merchant of Asphodel I think this would have great synergy with the whip, if you put it in play from the graveyard, you gain 4 life and your opponent loses 4 life, assuming your only black permanent in play is your whip. I relate this one to a thragtusk of black, granted it doesn't get the 3/3 beast afterwards...

Kalonian Hydra In itself, it's a great card. But with the whip? you pay 4 mana to have an 8/8 trample lifelink hydra swinging at your opponent. One of the best possible reanimation choices.

September 25, 2013 12:03 a.m.

Beetall says... #14

@Nobilior - I disagree with the prophet, that creature is best in control decks. Because the whip has to be played at sorcery speed, it gains no benefit from prophet, and as I said with thassa, I don't think the synergy would work with this deck.

don't overlook Thassa, God of the Sea ability to scry... it's so useful to be able to look at your next card before you draw it and see if it's gonna be useful

September 25, 2013 12:06 a.m.

Beetall says... #16

@Abenz419 --- Oh trust me, I have no problem with thassa. However, I've found that 50 cent uncommons like Bane Alley Broker will generally do more work for me than Thassa does. (I pulled thassa at prerelease and playtested a few decks with it...)

September 25, 2013 12:15 a.m.

abenz419 says... #17

I pulled her at the prerelease too, that's why I was saying don't underestimate her. But considering that we'll probably never reach the devotion level she'd never be anything more than a 1 of type of card, she'd give us an advantage if we played her but she wouldn't be necessary.

Also I know I saw that we were going more with ETB effects, but what about Desecration Demon over Shadowborn Demon . I feel like your opponent sac'ing a creature to tap it is less of a drawback than needing 6 creatures in our graveyardand it's got a bigger body for 1 less mana. Especially with the whip, things get exiled afterwards. Reanimating something with Shadowborn Demon out could actually start making us have to sac our other creatures. I realize we could use Shadowborn Demon ETB ability twice but just thought I'd throw this out there.

ShadowLand says... #18

Yes, and look at creatures like Lord of the Void and Giant Adephage , both can do ridiculous amounts of damage being re-animated and both can leave the field with another creature to replace them.

I second the Desecration Demon as well

September 25, 2013 12:33 a.m.

abenz419 says... #19

and I like the Giant Adephage idea as well. After reanimating it, it may get exiled but there's still a good chance that we'll have a 7/7 trample still on the board afterwards

While I have a minute. Thassa is not out yet, but I feel she is.more for the sideboard if we need to take a more controlling stance. As for the demon debate you guys vote.bee could even do a split.

September 25, 2013 1:24 a.m.

Replayced says... #22

If you guys agree with shadow. I'll add them.

September 25, 2013 1:25 a.m.

abenz419 says... #23

I saw someone else mention Kalonian Hydra earlier. I liked that idea as well. Also I wanted to throw out Master Biomancer then everything we reanimate comes back bigger

September 25, 2013 1:26 a.m.

abenz419 says... #24

I'm not against the side boarding of Thassa. Like I said earlier she's not necessary, but she definitely gives us an advantage.

I have had tons of experience trying to play Master Biomancer , and it honestly stinks trying to get it to work. Also, just saying Progenitor Mimic is a nice play as well
