Awsome Dragon deck, I love dragons and your deck is freaking powerfull. A card that coul maybe give something good is Dragonspeaker Shaman. +1

Is this budget? If not, I know some fun suggestions, and have a few idea to change up your deck. One of which is Kargan Dragonlord, or if we're really daring and progressive, Hellkite Overlord. Jund Dragons is super neat.

So I don't know how I didn't think of Dragonspeaker Shaman, but I'm sure glad you did! As for this being a budget deck, it's not really a budget deck but I do have some limits on what I'm willing to spend. I think I'm going to aim to keep this mono red, however I'm thinking I might want Dragonlord in there might have to do some play testing.

No problem. That's a good card for this type of decks, it suits really well. I sure want to know how this turn out to be.

Don't know why but Slumbering Dragon is never impressive. my friend and I have a dragon deck, and for awhile he only had a dragon deck so he used it a lot. I think maybe once between the both of us Slumbering Dragon actually could attack. Especially with the people I play with, it's for sure gone before it gets to 5 counters.

I know what you mean, it's pretty rare that slumbering dragon gets all five counters on it but I keep it in there just as a means of keeping the other person from swinging early.

maybe sideboard? if someone doesn't have an aggro deck, not as effective

normally I'd say yes, however in this case it's all about knowing your meta. Enough of my friends run aggro that it will be better to keep it main board, I could use suggestions on a better one drop to put in it's place against slower decks because Magma Spray doesn't really cut it.

one drop creature or noncreature?

CSchademann says... #10

whichever really, the biggest issue I've had so far is the artifact deck he doesn't attack early, so I was kind of thinking about Red Elemental Blast because some things use blue mana or Vandalblast.

Sneak Attack... if i'm not mistaken should be in every dragon deck. =P

Archwing Dragon sure enjoys sneak attacks.

otherwise Stormbreath Dragon is solid. not a one drop but he's good

CSchademann says... #13

Wow yeah, Sneak Attack that would be great but its too rich for my blood. Stormbreath Dragon is great, you might have noticed that I have two in the sideboard to replace Thundermaw Hellkite.

holy crap... when did Sneak Attack get so expensive? I remember it being like 20 bucks back when I used it in decks. I blame EDH

Could be but I think it has more to do with the increasing popularity of MTG, Seems like everyone plays these days.

Just wanted to pop in and suggest Utvara Hellkite for this deck. :D

Anyway, +1 for general dragon awesomeness.

With mono-red, the Cavern of Souls is unnecessary. Unless you splash green for Atarka, World Render or black for Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury.

CSchademann says... #18

Cavern of Souls does currently remove the worry of having my biggest Dragons getting countered, but I see your point. I don't think Kolaghan, the Storm's Fury is the right fit as the role it would fill is already taken by Archwing Dragon, and it's fighting for the 5CMC spot vs Thundermaw Hellkite & Stormbreath Dragon. Atarka, World Render however might be the better choice as a finisher over Utvara Hellkite...

Maybe one of each? Also, Crucible of the Spirit Dragon could be good ramp.

Nah, Crucible of the Spirit Dragon is just a bad card.

Dragonspeaker Shaman is banned? Seething Song is banned now and i realy think that's good. Example: You have Desperate Ritual, Seething Song and Geosurge in your hand.. You can play those cmc 8 haste dragons to play on turn 2.. Kinda overpower.

February 2, 2015 5:59 a.m.

CSchademann says... #22

It's not banned, it's just not modern legal because it came out before 8th ed (specifically Scourge). I hadn't realized that Seething Song wasn't legal, That card is the glue for this deck, so I'm glad it's only been for causal use. I can see why Seething Song is banned, when played at the right time it's brutal. I don't really like Geosurge but Kilnmouth Dragon I'll consider against Atarka, World Render and Utvara Hellkite.
