Maybeboard


This is a commander deck built around Roon of the Hidden Realm. It uses "blink" or "flicker" effects to re-use enter the battlefield abilities of creatures. As such, the deck has a wide variety of creatures with enter the battlefield abilities, along with numerous ways to flicker them and ways to tutor for the right creature for a specific situation. This deck is very creature-focused and so is weak to boardwipe, but it has the tools to rebuild from one and has held its own in mulitplayer against much more expensive decks. Roon of the Hidden Realm: Roon isn't the most powerful blink effect in this deck, but the fact that he's consistently available makes him invaluable. It's also worth noting that Roon can target any creature, including one you dont control; we have several ways to exploit this.

Brago, King Eternal: Although combat-dependent, his ability to blink multiple creatures is invaluable and can let you swing while still being able to defend.

Deadeye Navigator: By far the most powerful blink effect in this deck. Certain abilities are game-breaking when you can activate them unlimited times for just two mana apiece; Prime Speaker Zegana and Angel of Serenity deserve mention.

Mistmeadow Witch: A weaker Deadeye Navigator, but the fact that it can target our opponent's creatures makes it useful in a pinch.

Venser, the Sojourner : Excellent; a bounce effect each turn, an incredible offensive ability, and on the off chance we reach his ultimate our opponent is in for a very rough time.

Conjurer's Closet: Lets us reset an attacker and trigger an ETB ability every turn.

Galepowder Mage : Needs an open opponent to be effective, but it's still a repeatable blink effect that doesn't require a mana investment.

Sudden Disappearance : Expensive, but versatile. Allows us to reset all our ETB triggers or clears the path for an alpha strike, and with Sundial or Hallowed Moonlight it's a one sided boardwipe.

Angel of Serenity: Strong on its own, but incredible with any kind of instant speed bounce effect. If you flicker it in response to it entering the battlefield, its leave the battlefield ability will resolve before its enter the battlefield ability and the creatures will be exiled permanently.

Avenger of Zendikar: Spamming plants for fun and profit. It's also worth noting that one of our blinkers ( Venser, the Sojourner ) can flicker our lands, which is quite powerful with this guy.

Brutalizer Exarch: Even before you take blink effects into account, Exarch is excellent in commander. The sheer number of powerful noncreature permanents in commander makes its first ability invaluable; and if it can't solve a problem, it can probably tutor for a creature that can.

Clever Impersonator: Clone effects are always powerful. As an added bonus, as long as it's copying a creature, the impersonator can be flickered to copy something else if need be.

Hornet Queen: Five deathtouching bees deters attacking. Fifty deathtouching bees really deters attacking (yes, this has happened with Deadeye Navigator).

Ixidron: This guy has a ton of utility with flicker effects. First, you can bounce the things you flipped down and they come back face up; and second, if your opponent casts something else you need to deal with, you can simply flicker Ixidron to get the effect again.

Karmic Guide: Repeatable reanimation. This deck doesn't rely on its graveyard but being able to get creatures out is always a nice effect to have.

Loxodon Hierarch : Its primary purpose is to protect us against board wipe, but the lifegain can also be handy.

Luminate Primordial : Swords to plowshares on a stick. His brother Sylvan Primordial used to be the MVP of this deck before he got banned, but he carries on the fight and makes sure our opponents don't have a board.

Mulldrifter: Card draw. Another staple that only gets better with blink.

Perplexing Chimera : This is one of Roon's more interesting applications. If you bounce it after exchanging it with something, it will come back under your control so you can use it again. At first I included this card mostly for fun, but if you can stabilize with it it's ridiculously effective.

Phyrexian Ingester : Repeatable exile effect.

Prime Speaker Zegana: More card draw. This one is particularly potent, and Zegana plus Deadeye Navigator is arguably the most powerful two-card combo in the deck.

Resolute Archangel : A useful tool against aggressive decks. Repeatedly setting your life total to 40 tends to make it difficult to kill you.

Sphinx of Uthuun : Even more card draw. Another great navigator pairing, but as his ability can take awhile to resolve, using it repeatedly can draw the ire of your opponents. Proceed with caution.

Stonehorn Dignitary: Can lock an opponent out of combat if we repeatedly bounce it. At the very least buys us a turn.

Sun Titan: Another reanimate effect that gets better with blink. This will usually be used to bring back a creature, but the option to reanimate other things is nice.

Sunblast Angel : Do not underestimate repeatable board wipe. That said, use it cautiously; its easy to blow up your own stuff if youre not careful.

Terastodon: I turned all of my opponent's lands into elephants once. He was not amused.

Twilight Shepherd: On top of having a powerful ETB effect, flickering the Shepherd also removes any -1/-1 counters it gained from its persist ability.

Blade of Selves: Easily my favorite card from Commander 2015. Insane in most multiplayer decks, but it's beyond ridiculous here with all the ETB triggers floating around. A gamewinner.

Sundial of the Infinite: Dont worry, your creature I bounced will come back at end of turn. Oops (This does work, at least with Roon; you activate the sundial in response to the trigger that brings back the flickered creature, causing it to be exiled from the stack. Be warned, however, that it does not work with all flicker effects.)

Hallowed Moonlight: A one-shot version of the Sundial effect. It's also an effective counter to a variety of EDH shenanigains.

Rite of Replication: Powerful card under normal circumstances. Insane when were copying something like Karmic Guide.

Progenitor Mimic: Another way to get multiple copies of a creature into play.

Leyline of Anticipation: Being able to flash in an Acidic Slime or something of that nature at instant speed is invaluable.

Mirror Mockery : Stalls an opponents beater or allows us to get extra triggers off of your creature.

Rally the Ancestors : Gets an extra use out of all our ETB triggers in the grave, and combined with another blink effect can become a permanent reanimation.

Cackling Counterpart: Another copy effect, this one reusable. Plus instant speed makes this hilarious (a suprise Sunblast Angel , for example, can really ruin somebody's day).

Krosan Tusker : Card advantage that you can cast in a pinch, or tutor for with Fierce Empath if we really need more lands early game.

Kiora's Follower: Untaps a land, an attacker, or Roon if need be.

Oracle of Mul Daya: Filters our draws and ramps our mana.

Somberwald Sage: Most of our deck is creatures, so this rivals the best mana artifacts in terms of efficiency.

Chromatic Lantern: Commander staple, fixes and ramps.

Wood Elves: Commander staple for good reason. Can be blinked for multiple uses.

Farhaven Elf: Ditto.

Sol Ring: It wouldnt be a commander deck without it.

Explosive Vegetation: More ramp.

Kiora, the Crashing Wave : A repeatable Explore that can also help us on defense. Her ultimate is rather easy to reach for a planeswalker and can be game-winning; a 9/9 isn't as impressive in commander as elsewhere, but a 9/9 every turn adds up.

Acidic Slime: Kills things that need killing, and usually more than once in this deck.

Angel of Finality : Reusable graveyard hate.

Bane of Progress: We're running fewer artifacts and enchantments that most commander decks, so this will probably hurt them more than it hurts us. Being able to repeatedly wipe artifacts and enchantments is absolutely devastating to some decks.

Reclamation Sage: Another way to kill artifacts and enchantments repeatedly, with the bonus of being tutorable with Woodland Bellower .

Eternal Witness: A commander staple for good reason. Again, blink effects only make this better.

Fierce Empath: Another reusable tutor effect.

Dauntless Escort: Boardwipe protection, along with the previously mentioned Loxodon Hierarch .

Mother of Runes: Because this deck is so creature-focused, it's important to have ways to protect them. Mother of runes is just about the best way to do that.

Augury Owl: Card filtration and a chump blocker early game.

Steel Hellkite: Fantastic beater that can kill their stuff. Really brings in the tactical element of flickering our opponent's stuff, as if this guy connects he can be a game-changer.

Swiftfoot Boots: No introduction needed. At some point I will get a second copy of Lightning Greaves to put in the deck, but at the moment my only copy is in another commander deck.

Day of Judgment and Supreme Verdict: As much as our deck is creature based, sometimes the opponent is doing something even more ridiculous than we are and we need an out for those situations. It's also worth noting that we can bounce our most important creature(s) before we cast this to help us rebuild.

Void Grafter : This deck does not run counterspells because in my experience, counterspells are just not fun. However, sometimes a removal spell is about to ruin our day and we don't have a blink effect at the ready. That's where this guy comes in.

Wargate: A very interesting tutor, and one of the better ones in these colors. The variety of ETB triggers in the deck make this invaluable.

Woodland Bellower : A reverse Fierce Empath. This deck has several excellent targets for bellower: Empath, Eternal Witness, Dauntless Escort, and Kiora's Follower.
