Hi Zemikis! Glad you found it great to read! to link a player, you simply do the same with the way you link cards, just make sure you write the name (including capitals and lowercase) right
As for your question, Blood Baron of Vizkopa
is the only card here not meant to be reanimated by the whip, but rather to hold and hard cast once the 5 mana becomes available.
His most important trait is that he has "protection from white and from black". In the current standard meta, there are very little kill spells that could get rid of him. He's immune to many removal spells such as Detention Sphere
, Doom Blade
, Dark Betrayal
, Glare of Heresy
, Hero's Downfall
, and Putrefy
to name quite a few. This makes him ideal to combat the Esper Control deck archetype, Mono Black, Mono White, Golgari, and basically any decks running black and/or white, which is a lot of decks.
His lifelink is there without the whip, so without the assistance of any other cards, he is able to progress towards and initiate his own second ability too... which is quite blatantly a game ender ability :)
And for your last question, there's not too many ramps out there in the 1 or 2 CMC cost that could produce mana of any colours. Voyaging Satyr
can untap a dual land, but he can't produce mana I don't yet have.
As for cards to defend with until I hit the 6 CMC, there are many options out there. I could add kill spells at the 2 or 3 CMC, or I could have value for mana creatures like Loxodon Smiter
and Fleecemane Lion
, or even Pack Rat
. The only thing is that I would probably have to take out my mana ramp, and my mill acceleration ( Grisly Salvage
and Commune with the Gods
). The effects of which I'm not yet sure of.
I hope those helped in answering your questions! _

From the top of my head, you can deal with him by countering Dissipate , Essence Scatter , or 4+ damage spell like Mizzium Mortars , Clan Defiance , and some other effects Polukranos, World Eater , Arbor Colossus . All of which are present in the meta, but as you can see most of them require more than just playing a spell to kill.
