@Cravv: Tutors are not to my taste. They make gameplay too linear. Deck manipulation is as close as I choose to get to tutoring, with the exception of lands.

I find tutoring creatures counterproductive. Spend a card to find a creature card you like, play it, then it gets killed or wrathed. 2 for 1.
Unless you're going the indestructible route, or getting some kind of high-value protection creature, it seems like a waste?

I agree thewyzman. It makes sense if you need a specific combo piece, but otherwise you're just telegraphing your play and likely wasting your best creature. I guess if your dude had a removal spell stapled to him it could be ok, but that's still 2 cards to kill 1 of theirs.

I mean, if that's your flavor then go for it. Maybe you'll drop that Inferno Titan or Wurmcoil Engine that gives you card advantage... but unless you know your opponent, you're shooting in the dark, and consistency is important TO ME in Edh.

Also have you considered Mayael's Aria? It has great synergie with this deck and decks that use big creatures. Though i dislike it's last ability of instantly winning the game by owning a creature with power 20 or greater, the +1/+1 counters and 10 life gain are nice!

This deck is so insane...MY MOTIVATION to make a Mayael the Anima deck! :D +1
March 21, 2015 3:32 p.m.
Alokoneses, my two cents on Mayael's Aria is that it's a fun early card, but requires that you can keep its requirements fulfilled. With lots of removal, wrath effects, etc, I don't imagine it sticks around long enough to win you the game. If you're behind in the late game, is that really the card that will help you? I feel like it's a situational win-more card personally that lacks consistency. FUN for sure, full of flavor, but I just don't play it in my own version

I would recommend Garruk's Packleader, but you'd probably die from all of that draw power.
March 23, 2015 2:11 p.m.
Bobby654 different gameplan, completely different style of deck. This is based of off Mayael's ability, and is not meant to win with a combo.
MaelstromHobo, have you put this on MTGSalvation?

@Alokoneses & Bobby654: I get asked about Mayael's Aria a lot, so I should probably include it in my "Why Aren't You Running..." section. It is a fun toy, and it went into the very first incarnation of this deck. But nowadays it does nothing to advance my strategy. My 3-5 drop spaces are highly competitive, and those cards which are not power 5 creatures need to provide highly efficient utility.
@DaitokujiAmnael: I always found him to be a lightning rod. People anticipate shenanigans with him, and I've rarely drawn more than 1 or 2 cards off him. I've been relying on cards like Commander's Sphere and Wall of Omens more and more for card advantage, and I'm fairly pleased with the results.
@Kryzis: I've never used MTGSalvation. Is it worth putting it on there?

Wouldn't Arid Mesa be more prudent than Bloodstained Mire?

@Kryzis: It would if I had one. I'm anticipating a reprint in the near future, so I've held off on buying one so far. Once we get a reprint I intend to run 9 fetches.

I see. I understand. Upon taking a second look Mayael's Aria wouldn't fit

Quick question. How useful is Mother of Runes in this format?
March 31, 2015 5:55 p.m.
KindredDiscovery says... #22
@DavidBray: The answer to that question depends on who you ask. She sees a fair amount of play in voltron builds, both for protecting the president and pushing damage through. I think she gets cut from most combo and goodstuff decks because she doesn't "do enough" on her own. She is a support card, through and through, and it takes a particular kind of deck to get value out of that.
March 31, 2015 11:17 p.m.
I really like this deck it inspired me to try Mother of Runes and Eight-and-a-Half-Tails just naming a few
But right now it feels like Eight-and-a-Half-Tails needs to have mana open wich you could use by doing something else making your board stronger/activating Mayael the Anima
Would you still play it without Captain Sisay?
Mother of Runes is awesome though!

Avenger of Zendikar could be useful here. Also, if anyone in your playgroup uses discard effects you should run Library of Leng. Put those creatures you would have discarded on top of your library then play with with Mayael's ability :P

Looks like a ton of fun. Have you tought about adding cards like Birthing Pod or Quicksilver Amulet?
KindredDiscovery says... #1
@_SeriosSkies_:Woops...meant Garruk Wildspeaker. I find the fragility is not really an issue, as its a one-of in a 100 card deck. In a typical game I tutor for it once my mana base can take take the hit. Even in the opening hand it's not so bad, about the same as getting a Temple of the False God.
