Xenagos (the god) should be an auto-include when BotG releases.

I agree with the above.

I'm trying to figure what to take out. The way I see it he's a haste enabler with upside...I'd replace Akroma's Memorial most likely. I'm looking forward to Karametra since your devotion to white and green is much higher potentially than to red.

Either way...the two color gods will be sweet.

January 15, 2014 11:01 p.m.

Just checked the spoilers, Xenagos is gross. Akroma's Memorial is already on the bubble, and he fits the bill of big creature with utility and is hard to remove on top of that. Will definitely enjoy getting a copy of him in here. I'll worry about what to remove when the time comes.

What do you guys think of Heroes Podium? I mean I run a decent amount of Legendary creatures, and I'll be adding Xenagos and Karametra with BNG.

With out having a Scroll Rack on the battlefield idk how good it would be. Just think getting an 8 drop when you only have 5 or six lands.

It seems inconsistent for a 5 mana anthem that only affects 15 creatures including Mayael and the two new gods. That being said who expects Mayael to be beating down for commander damage!?!?

Yeah, after looking at Heroes Podium I thought it better for a Captain Sisay deck.

As for Karametra, I wasn't so sure. It's the fact it reads "cast" and not "enters the battlefield" means you won't get it off creatures pulled with Mayael, but if it was "enters" token decks would go bananas XD I'm not too convinced about it, but Xenagos and Archetype of Endurance are gonna be sweet.

January 21, 2014 12:55 a.m.

Yeah, that's kinda lame, but I cast dudes often enough I could get all the forests and plains out. I guess I'll test her out and see. No doubt Archetype of Endurance will be amazing.

Illusionist's Bracers are fantastic in Mayael decks. They tie up less mana than the Rings, anyway. You could also run both for redundancy!

January 29, 2014 6:23 p.m.

@JacG I have often considered Illusionist's Bracers for the redundancy, but it's actually sorta narrow and Win-More. Rings can copy more than just the activated abilities of creatures, I've copied Kessig Wolf Run before for example. On top of that, Rings can be used more than once in a turn without having to pay the equip cost.

I would like to take this chance to pick your brain and anyone else's about putting Archetype of Endurance in over the Asceticism I'm trying to find and squeeze in. I'd prefer to have both, and there are obvious pros and cons, but if you have an opinion I'd love to hear it.

i have found that Asceticism is usually a dead drop unless your vastly ahead, and not only that... it gets skipped by Mayaels ability. Archetype of Endurance will surely take its place in my deck because of the fact that its a creature and taking away hexproof from enemies is extremely useful.

The biggest downside I see to Archetype of Endurance is every green creature-based deck will want this card so often enough multiples on the table will cancel each other out.

Asceticism at least has the benefit of regeneration if you have mana up. That being said, its good to increase your fatty density. If you (or somebody else) kills the opponents archetype you get your hexproof back. It's probably worth giving it a test run.

If you often are going to get Seedborn Muse then I think the regenerate on Asceticism is more relevant. The Archetype also doesn't have any evasion aside from whatever static pumps you have out at the moment. Kind of a lackluster attacker.

The Archetype protects itself from targeting, but dies to boardwipes. Asceticism regenerates your creatures, but in and of itself has no protection. In my opinion, the Archetype is better if you run into a lot of targeted removal, and Asceticism is better if you run into board wipes frequently. If you get both of those types of removal frequently, then run both.

Well, that is true JacG but in a Mayael deck being able to hit the creature is extremely important. If not it will just go to the bottom of your deck.

January 30, 2014 4:57 p.m.

I think I'm gonna try the archetype over swiftfoot boots, cause I was actually able to trade for an asceticism last night. Then xenagos and karametra over hua tuo and spellbreaker. This was typed on my phone, so my bad guys lol.

Whelp Sylvan Primordial was banned. If people can't play with the spirit of the game without getting cards banned, then those people just suck and ruin it for all of us.

It's a bummer when fair decks like Mayael get punished for the way others play. Lame.

I personally love this ban. I have a complete mayael deck and the only thing people do is copy it for 2 mana and blow up all my sh*t. Its just not fun.

Can you link where this was said? i haven't seen it on the wizard's site.

The EDH Ban list is kept up by an independent group, the website is MTGCommander.net I believe. Google it lol.

Unfortunately, my friends use the wizards ban list. So im still stuck with my friends abusing my creatures. :/

It will be updated on Gatherer eventually I'm sure.

Very nice deck, +1. I run Mayael as well, in a very similar shell. Sometimes, though, the deck gets off to a slow start. While I have fabulous inevitability in long games, quick decks tend to knock me off balance. Do you find you have similar problems? And if so, what have you done to correct it?
