Also usually EDH deck have more creatures than lands?

June 7, 2014 4:35 p.m.

I guess that would depend on the deck, Here a lot of my lands are utility lands, so they are worth more than just a regular land. Also If I need to cast a dude I want to be able to do so relatively easy.

Illusionist's Bracers on mayael is fun, and so can be Shield of the Oversoul . Check out my Rompin' Stompin' Big'uns to see what I've done and others have commented.

Lots of big creatures in this years core set. Any goodies you're thinking of adding?

Perhaps pick up a Chord of Calling ?

July 8, 2014 3:53 p.m.

@thewyzman I prefer Rings of Brighthearth since it can copy all activated abilities. I'll give your deck a look in a sec!

@MindAblaze! I was super excited for the Promo Dragon until it only did 2 damage to each creature. Though I think the list of cards to try out are: Ajani Steadfast , Nissa, Worldwaker , The Chain Veil , Avacyn, Guardian Angel , Soul of Theros , Soul of New Phyrexia , Scuttling Doom Engine , Chord of Calling , and Life's Legacy , with the last two cards on very thin ice since their effects aren't repeatable. Though Life's Legacy with Sarkhan Vol sounds good lol.

@miracleHat It will get a chance, since it will probably be the 4th tutor for Seedborn Muse or with Seedborn Muse out with enough stuff I can grab Avacyn, Angel of Hope at instant speed.

Ooooh, I hadn't considered how good Ajani Steadfast could be in here. Good call.

July 8, 2014 4:28 p.m.

Worldspine Wurm the biggest legal creature should definitely be in here

July 8, 2014 5:18 p.m.

@Chargingbadgerrrrrrrr Worldspine Wurm is just a giant beater, Most or all of the creatures here offer utility past just being huge, or are simply game breaking.

Ajani Steadfast would be good, even moreso with Mayael's Aria

Komamura says... #11

I agree with Chief. Worldspine Wurm isnt a card that should be used in a higher end deck. You spend 11 mana when all someone has to do is use a 1 mana Path to Exile or even a 2 mana Doom Blade . Just because a card is big, doesnt mean its good.

As for Ajani Steadfast and Mayael's Aria .... they are far too slow and arent creatures that can be hit with mayael. I wouldnt suggest ether.

( Im not trying to sound rude or mean... just my opinnion. )

SSR_Komamura, A Mayael deck is not meant to be fast, with the exception of huge mid-late swings, and decks that lack sufficient removal will also operate slowly against a Mayael deck, so Mayael's Aria is a somewhat slow card, but it's on pace with the deck, along with Ajani Steadfast .

As for Worldspine Wurm , you're right about Path to Exile , but Doom Blade the wurm with Where Ancients Tread (another HUGE suggestion) will pop three 5/5 wurms out and can easily mean GG. If you run the wurm, you may never actually play it straight, you'd want to cheat it in with something like Quicksilver Amulet , Elvish Piper , or Mayael's ability.

Another card that's not bad, and simple, is Thragtusk .

As far as fair EDH decks go, Mayael is a fast deck. Cards like Mayael's Aria seem great in theory but in practice just sit there putting +1/+1 counters on your creatures that are already big.

Where Ancients Tread is nowhere near as good as Warstorm Surge and that hasn't been found to be strong enough for this deck.

In a deck that draws sweepers like this one does, you need your fatties to do more than just turn sideways. In the end that's all Worldspine Wurm does. Yes it turns into more fatties when it dies, but if you ever draw it you'll wish you hadn't.

There's more of an argument for the efficiency of Thragtusk but I feel like it fits better in Roon of the Hidden Realm or something that can abuse its etb/ltb abilities.

July 9, 2014 12:12 p.m.

sure they can use 1 mana for path to exile, but whats stopping them from using it on ulamog? or godsire? or even mayael

July 9, 2014 5:44 p.m.

@thewyzman and Chargingbadgerrrrrrrr While I agree both of you have great points about the cards you're suggesting, I think you're looking at them in the context of "Mayael cheats big dudes into play whooooooo, mash more dudes in the deck for value" Not that there's anything wrong with that, but I aim to be as efficient and deliberate as possible with my Mayael activations.

To do this, I have support cards that make it much easier to hit what I'm looking for. Real example; in response to a Damnation I used Sensei's Divining Top then fetched, then used Sensei's Divining Top to find Avacyn, Angel of Hope on top, then put her in play with Mayael.

That's just smart play. I typically play her ability as a sorcery speed.

July 9, 2014 8:46 p.m.

Komamura says... #17

That always works with Worldly Tutor aswell. Any creature in a Mayael deck is pretty scary for 7 mana. Just put it on top and let Mayael the Anima work her magic. ( so to speak.. heh )

How is Karametra, God of Harvests working out? You mention the main focus is to cheat creatures in, so how often do you actually cast said creatures for her ability to be relevant?

On the topic of cheating things in, have you considered Sneak Attack ? (Not exactly a budget-friendly card, but then again, from the looks of your deck, that isn't too much of problem.)

August 11, 2014 4:51 p.m.

If I could find a Sneak Attack for trade I'd slam it in lol.

Karametra is more just in here, because I enjoy legendary creatures. She'll be replaced by a more relevant fatty eventually.

I actually love Karametra, God of Harvests ! Every time i play her I get atleast 3 lands, and no matter how much mana you already have... naya always wants MORE! lol

Unless the basic land type is relevant, would you not prefer Skyshroud Claim over Explosive Vegetation . I find them coming in untapped to be very helpful, and I'm only running shock lands, not Taiga and Savannah like you are.

August 13, 2014 4:13 p.m.

Komamura says... #22

If you have shocks i believe that Skyshroud Claim is better. You dont need the dual lands to make it good. ( but they are really cool )

How do you feel about Privileged Position ? I have one but i dont know if its worth it seeing as there are so many board wipes in my meta.

Since you've got Tooth and Nail , have you considered adding Restoration Angel and Kiki-Jiki, Mirror Breaker to have a combo kill in the deck?

August 14, 2014 12:44 p.m.

@TehRazorBack & Komamura Yeah Skyshroud Claim is better, I just seemed to have lost mine and haven't spent the 5 minutes to order another.

@PlattBonnay Yes I've considered it, but individually they are "meh" in this deck. Besides, if I'm going to play beats, I want to do it the old fashioned way... with hella big dudes lol.
