I was having the same feeling about Condemn and Aura of Silence , but I really want to try and put in some more ramp. I was thinking on those two, since Condemn is really only nice against voltron generals, and Aura of Silence is another slight tax effect similar to Chancellor of the Annex .

I think for now I will put Harrow in over Akroma and Cultivate since it brings them in untapped.

Survival of the Fittest is awesome, but I rarely have ever used it. Maybe that's between not drawing it/ not needing it, but I feel like Oracle of Mul Daya is another nice Exploration on legs. Maybe I'll do Oracle of Mul Daya in for Condemn , and keep SoF.

Makes sense to me. I just like to play the devil's advocate.

have you thought of Birds of Paradise Avacyn's Pilgrim and Arbor Elf for some really early ramp?

April 11, 2013 8:45 p.m.

Yeah, all three would fit nicely in here. The only thing is I dislike mana dorks in EDH. I prefer regular old ramping for more lands, since they are usually more durable. I'm even iffy on artifact ramp or I would have convinced myself to fit Gilded Lotus in here already.

That's a good point ChiefWannaHacka. I tended to rely on mana dorks in 60 card casual, but now that I'm getting into EDH I'm beginning to realize how much better land ramping is, especially when people use board wipes. Although I will say that I am a big fan of Gilded Lotus .

Thanks again for the advice you gave me awhile ago. I've been tinkering with my Mayael EDH deck on here and I'm almost ready to go out and buy the cards I'm missing for it. I definitely used this deck as a foundation for mine. If you ever have any additional advice for me, please don't hesitate to let me know.

Could you check out my deck Mayael and friends? I like where yours is going and I need some ideas to tweak mine

@ cwgustke Thanks bud! You can always +1 it too!

I'm trading the Survival of the Fittest to complete my modern deck, and I feel like it wasn't as useful as I thought. It's probably better in a Karador, Ghost Chieftain deck. That being said, I'm debating what should replace it; here are a few options

I'm interested to see what you guys all think!

How often do you play against blue? Seedtime would make a good sideboard but unless the group you play against always has able it is just going to be a dud card. I would honestly put the mountain in as it would let you use the "search for a basic land" card for your second mountain if you are short on those, it would also be an acceptable exchange when you know you ARE playing a blue deck to switch with seedtime

What does everyone think about trying the Urza lands out? i.e. Urza's Tower

I think If I found room for Crop Rotation and put Expedition Map /Sylvan Scrying back in it could be doable. What does the community think?

I had urza's stuff in mine but kept ending up drawing those when I needed colored land. But def with expedition map in it shouldn't be too much of a problem, with all three out you get 7 mana for 3 land, not bad, tower itself can take care of half of mayael's ability cost and chromatic lantern makes them even better, seems very feasible in that combination

I find myself needing color fixing more than anything else in Mayael. once you have the time and resources to search for urzatron, you already have board state out the ass. I think it's going to be 3 cards that you wish were Command Tower . I know by the time i have 8 mana, i usually already have my Rings of Brighthearth and Seedborn Muse online. at which point I don't need any more mana.

What are your thoughts on Zhur-Taa Ancient and Ruric Thar, the Unbowed ?

May 5, 2013 3:36 p.m.

Thanks guys for the points on the Urza lands, I feel the same, so they might get a tryout but not likely. Ruric Thar, the Unbowed is a ungodly amount of fun to play. He allows for some hilarious play. Zhur-Taa Ancient feels like it has a lot of potential if you activate Mayael at your opponents end step and hit him. Probably a lot of upside if you're running a mana flare style Mayael deck or beast tribal with Contested Cliffs . I'll definitely try him if I pull one, but I'm probably not going to go out of my way to find one.

Honestly, I am surprised you took Spearbreaker Behemoth out, it works really well with board wipes to keep your op creatures out while theirs die, don't know what to remove instead however...

May 6, 2013 9:07 a.m.

It was a tough choice, but it was the only thing I felt I could do without to add Ruric Thar, the Unbowed

May 6, 2013 9:50 a.m.

MindAblaze says... #19

I can't wait to get a Ruric Thar for my deck now, essentially gives any instant the rider "as an additional cost...pay 6 life.

How has Utvara Hellkite been playing, I've been afraid it's effect is too slow without a haste enabler.

May 6, 2013 10:18 a.m.

With 3 haste enablers Fires of Yavimaya , Sarkhan Vol , Akroma's Memorial I feel comfortable hitting him. If I hit him without one, I still like him to create tokens to block or sac to Greater Good . He might come out if Theros block has something amazing though.

May 6, 2013 11:36 a.m.

MindAblaze says... #21

Fair. My pipe dream is that Theros will be five colored, and we'll get zendikar fetches in the core set instead of check-duals....but like I said...pipe dream.

May 6, 2013 11:45 a.m.

Didn't see that comment there! My pipe/theory dream for Theros, since they changed the legendary ruling I feel it's likely, is that we're headed back to a place full of legendary things. Which I'm totally cool with, I like the legendary concept. Also the last plane that was modeled after some kind of real world mythology was Kamigawa. I just want HUGE legendary "God" type cards to flesh out the pantheon in here lol.

May 28, 2013 10:27 a.m.

MindAblaze says... #23

That would be awesome too, and the comment in the announcement "the upcoming sets have been designed with this rule change in mind" makes it even more likely!

How do Sun Titan and Craterhoof Behemoth play in your build? I thought about adding them to mine but I wasn't sure if the synergy was there. Do you frequently have targets for Sun Titan 's ability or does it just end up being a beater most of the time? Craterhoof Behemoth is a great card but I'm hesitant on him because he doesn't do much if you land him on an opponent's turn.

Also I'm not sure if your looking for suggestions, but Scourge of Kher Ridges and Mirari's Wake have both been extremely powerful for me and I didn't see them in your updates list. Madblind Mountain has actually been pretty good for topdeck manipulation too if your looking for more ways to shuffle your library.

May 31, 2013 11:51 a.m.

Sun Titan is really useful to recur important low drop permanents like Sylvan Library or Domri Rade . Craterhoof Behemoth is getting a try out for his alpha swing capabilities. Like if I'm trying to squeeze out that last little bit and hit him main phase it's over for someone. If I hit him on an opponents turn I could still just choose not to reveal him.

I'm always looking for suggestions, and Scourge of Kher Ridges is something I've been on the look out for actually! I just haven't been able to find one :(. His "boardwipe" abilities are very useful when you're huge. Mirari's Wake has been on my radar, but I decided to go with the regular land ramp route, hence I'm missing some things like Mirari's Wake or Bloom Tender .

Last but not least! Madblind Mountain was in here for the shuffle effect, but I only have 10 red permanents so it didn't work out like I had hoped in the games I played with it. Thanks for stopping by!
